Ok time to let the zingers roll on this one.

How prejudice do you have to be to make the KKK not to want to have anything to do with you?

I love the Westboro Baptist Church. They're either brilliant satirists or a b+#@*~% insane cult . . . either way they always make me laugh.

What is really scary is his oldest daughter works for the state and is hella smart. She brings thing up to litigation at every chance she gets. They win more then they lose.

Ku Klux Klan has distanced itself from Westboro Baptist Church

If people could learn to ignore the idiots from Westboro Baptist they'd have no choice but to vanish. Their hate is an abomination, and they crave the attention it gets. Fred Phelps and his family are like the Grauls with Bibles.

This is why I'm not 100% sure it's not satire . . . I mean they can't really be that crazy can they? Can they?

Well I suppose they can but I can dream can't I?

When the KKK says you are too out there for them, that says something.

Considering all the (racial) civil rights work Phelps did before going bat-shiite crazy, it really isn't that surprising that the KKK wouldn't want to be associated with his clan.

That's very nice of you, KKK.

Phelps is a major racist, personally and theologically. His son says he took civil rights cases purely for the cash.

His intellect and fiery oratorical skills compel people to stand up and take notice. Early on in his legal career he discovered an untapped gold mine in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This new federal act was basically an empty shell waiting to be filled. He was up to that challenge. Filing an unprecedented number of civil rights suits earned him a reputation in the region for championing the rights of the black man. In spite of his personal and theologically based disdain for the black community he was able to sway juries, with his passionate rhetoric, to pay large judgments and even convinced the NAACP to honor him with several awards.

Interesting article. I wonder if his book came out yet?

THIS killed me. I sometimes think the best thing you can do with people like this, or at least the most annoying thing to them, is laugh at them. Even if that isn't the case, its more fun.

Still, I don't think any "self-respecting" Klansman is going to support someone like him, even if he did it just for the money.

They won't support a guy like him because they see him as insulting the military with their antics at funerals, and KKK types think of themselves as the last real 'red-blooded' Americans, etc.

As they say, 'even a stopped clock is right twice a day'. One to go for these clowns.

There is a book called 'Homicide: A Year in the Killing Streets', written by David Simon, one of the creators of 'The Wire'. In it there is a true story about a guy who frequently snatched the hat with all the money in it from sidewalk craps games in Baltimore. He'd play for a bit until the pot got big, and then he'd snatch it and run. So he gets shot dead, of course, and a witness is explaining what happened and why this guy got shot. The cop stops him and asks, 'if he stole the pot all the time why would they let him play in the first place?'

The witness looks at him like he just announced that he was from Mars and replies, 'This is America, man. You got to let him play!'

:)

This is my feelings on the matter. The moment you get mad at them and thus treat them like they have legitimate opinions or views is the moment you give them power. They thrive on being hated. If people laughed at them or just ignored them then they'd probably move on.

I don't even think the WBC believes what they are saying. They come into a town, protest in the most offensive ways they can come up with, and hope someone denies them their right to protest. Then they sue for a pile of cash.

It looks more like a racket than anything else to me.

Why do you think they started picketing military funerals? Because the lower intensity gay-bashing they had been doing was losing effectiveness, that's why. They came to my town several years ago (we had a gay republican mayor at the time) and when they were here, it was pretty telling. They always drove the speed limit, never tossed so much as a gum wrapper on the ground, and only crossed the streets at crosswalks. Our town didn't take the bait, so they left early.

It isn't surprising that a hate group which actually believes in it's own inane rhetoric would distance itself from one that only seems to practice the hate for financial reasons.

Simon uses that bit at the very beginning of the first episode of THE WIRE.

This has to be the best response to the Phelps hatemongers that I've seen.
