Joining the Sword Lords - any rules / info about this in the AP?

Kingmaker

The Aldori Swordlords play a significant part of this AP, and the Sword Scion trait from the Kingmaker Players Guide hints at players having the opportunity of joining the Sword Pact themselves.

Is there any info in the AP that deals with this, or is it left up to GM fiat?

I swore I read that Swordlord was a self-proclaimed title. If anybody doubts you, pull out your Aldori dueling sword and dare them to challenge you.

There is a school that trains people. I read somewhere on the boards that they requested people to swear some kind of oath/fealty, but haven't run accross anywhere it says that in the things I have.

I would definetely like to know what the group's beliefs are, who their leaders are, and what they expect of their members. I have a player taking the trait, and would like to know how I should have poeple react to him and what NPCs expect of him. That he may act differently and not conform to their expectations is his perogative.

In a thread about the Faction Guide, James Jacobs hinted there would be some info about the Swordlords in a future publication.

Kingmaker just seems like an obvious place for such info.

Would love to see this stuff soon, before we start our Kingmaker AP, I want my Swordlord to actually have lots of fluff in his background

James Jacobs said somewhere that there will be more info on the Swordlords in an upcoming book

From all that I've read the best analogy, imo, is Japanese schools of combat.

Let us consider:
Sirian Aldori, traveling master duelist = Miyamoto Musashi, traveling master duelist
Swordpact = Bushido
Aldori Dueling Sword = Katana
Aldori School = Niten Ichi-ryu
"Swordlord" = "Samurai"

The Guide to the River Kingdoms makes it pretty clear that the Aldori from Mivon don't like those from Brevoy, and neither of them like the ones from the Rostlands. To think they're all the same seems pretty simplistic. I think people get too hung up on the concept of a "school" being a physical place and specific ideology.

My only disagreement with this is the fact that all of the Samurai were loyal to both the same Emperor, ruler of all Japan, and the same Shogun, military leader or all Japan. Now many different clans had samurai that did not like eachother and there were some unaffiliated wanderers such as Musashi. Yet all of them were loyal to the same Country/Emperor/Shogun. And note that Rostland's Swordlords are the same as Brevoy's as Rostland is part of Brevoy. Issia didn't have Swordlords like Rostland did.

Kingmaker's not really about Brevoy, is the thing, and as a result there was never really a good opportunity to do much about developing the swordlords at any point during the Kingmaker AP. There'll be info about them by the end of the year, though, either in the revised Campaign Setting or somewhere similar.

I saw the Aldori Swordpact Style write up in the new Campaign Setting (which I don't own...as of yet; beautiful by the way) but there's very little and with the Stolen Lands wedged between Mivon and Restov the Swordlords could be a big issue for people. I'm not against creating what I want/need but will there be more in depth coverage in the Ultimate Combat book or in something else 'cause if there isn't something I might as well just use my noggin and whip somehing up that fits the bill and fits my story.
and @Kyle: I agree the swordpact does sound samurai-esque but they don't sound very lord following fanatic (at least not in Mivon) rather they come off like fencers trying to be the best and following a lord for their own reasons. I could see evil, nuetral, or good swordlords.

It should also be pointed out (so long as the thread is being resurrected) that the Aldori swordlord fighter variant class features are in the Inner Sea Primer.

I too was disappointed that there was little fluff about the Swordlords and their ilk.

Actually, d20pfsrd.com has posted the Aldori Swordlord alternate class features as well.
