This Week In Games: Red Dead revealed

Story here

I went out and was able to buy a copy yesterday. Its very good.

I'm a huge fan of Red Dead Revolver and Gun(this was the first game I played NONSTOP until I beat in in several years), so I wouldn't be surprised that this game would be good.

Ok, so I have been playing this game a fair bit now. It seems to be an excellent insight and commentary on human behavior.
A couple of observations:

1) Multiplayer. People are dangerous. You quickly learn to join a posse and if you see another player not in your posse with their weapon drawn just gun them down. It is quite fascinating how this gives an insight into hostile behavior among humans.
This type of interaction and hostility explains group identity and the hostile outsider view that has dominated human history.
2) Racism, sexism and religion. The game often gives realistic view points directly from the games time period (1908). Hostile phrases about chinese, blacks, jews, science and women abound. These often come from people in power (leaders, priests, etc). It makes you realize that it was common and understood to be correct at the time. It really makes you realize how far we have come and makes you think about what we may take as true right now that might look horrendous in the future.

Just some thoughts.
