Origen Leanthris |

Origen will probably need to use that 21. Thanks, Torden.
"I'll try to take out the big ape quickly, either by covering him with grease or blinding him if I can get a clear shot."
Origen notices Jonagher's arm. He was rubbing his wound before. Perhaps it's more serious than we thought.
"Jonagher, we might want to heal up that arm so that it doesn't interfere with your shooting. Do you have any blessings that might be appropriate, Frik?"
OOC Tactics:
I'd argue for a selective channel to make sure that we're all at full hit points. It's something of a waste, but Frik has five or so per day. I doubt that he'll use them all this combat, and this looks like the finale.
Frik, I'd also request Guidance spells on each of us. It lasts a minute, so we can all get a +1 to our first attack. If you want to do this, we should perhaps move away from the door to preserve surprise. Do you have any other buffs that seem appropriate?

DM Berwick |

Bran, just to let you know, you may make Perception checks untrained. You still add your ability modifier. With that in mind, you rolled a 13. Feel free to look at the spoilers above that you qualify for.
Let me know what you guys want as far as placement on the map and surprise round actions. I will wait for Frik to post, and then put up an updated map, and prep initiative and such.

Bran Morigon |

"Lots of monkeys screaming in there...maybe twenty or more...and those loud drums again..." he tells everybody, "But I can also hear a man screaming. That must be our boy, Nigel. And that means he's still alive."
"Bran?" Jonagher addresses the big warrior, "You may be our best hope fighting the Tik Taan. I think maybe you should use this jade dagger." He offers the knife to him. "I'm still injured. And I'll probably be more help with the bow in case I need to keep the monkeys away while you and Frik deal with Da'Tunga...and maybe everyone else can focus on getting Nigel out of there. Torden? We'll need you on the drums, for sure, to counter anything the Tik Taan try to do to us. Everyone ready?"
Bran glances down at the jade dagger and then back up at Jonagher. He takes the dagger with a nod and a grin. "Stay behind me and Frik and call out if you are in trouble, alright?"
Bran tucks the dagger in his belt for easy access and tightens his grip on his throwing axe. "With me, Frik! Let's end this now!"And when everyone is ready (having cast any spells and made last minute preparations), Bran opens the door and steps into the room, moving straight ahead (to N10) and looking for the big ape.
As stated this morning, Bran will hurl his throwing axe at the first enemy he sees, preferably Da'Tunga. Then he will pull the jade dagger from his belt and have at the beast! Throwing axe attack: 1d20 + 3; (16) + 3 = 19; 1d6 + 3; (3) + 3 = 6 (posted from above)
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Please add any bonuses to the dagger.

Origen Leanthris |

OOC Strategy:
I don't see activity from Sully on his Kingmaker PbP, so he may be off-line. If we don't hear from him soon, how does this sound?
Rounds 1-5: Frik casts Guidance on all PCs.
Round 6: Rrik casts Magic Weapon on his greatsword.
Round 7: Frik casts Protection from Evil on Torden, as if he isn't mind-controlled, he can keep banging on the dispelling drum. Alternatively, Bran could get it to maximize his chances against the ape. During this time, the PCs would also get into position next to the door.
Round 8 or 9: Bust in!
Origen could open the door as his surprise action, which would allow all the rest of the part to attack. Then he'd be early in the initiative and could try to cast Color Spray or Grease while he had a clear shot.
What do you think?

After Frik is done casting various spells, and channeling divine healing from Cayden Cailean, Origen opens the door, Bran steps through, preparing to hurl an axe at the first viable target. He is quickly followed by Frik with his greatsword, and Jonagher with bow ready. Torden starts laying down a solid and familiar tempo, chanting an ancient song from the Jambala Jaeg.
Mock vines cling to the wall of this grand exhibit hall, and huts of grass are strewn about the open area. At the center of this sprawling chamber, a great stone ziggurat rises out of the mist, almost scraping the 50-foot-high ceiling. At the top of the ziggurat, a rail thin elven gentleman is strapped to an altar, his bare chest painted with strange sigils and monkey paw-shaped blots of paint.
As you enter the room, the drumming has reached a fevered tempo, a perfect counter-beat to Torden's. The mists swirl and pulse around the room, in almost hypnotic pattern. The primates in the room have painted themselves in swirls of various colors. They caper and screech, their eyes bloodshot with blood dripping down like tears.
As you prepare to attack, the primates look as one at the group, and a moment of silence is broken by the screeching and loud scattering of 20 some odd primates as they move through the mists. A terrifying howl shatters the simian symphony of panic. A large ape leaps out of the mists and lands on the ziggurat, beating its chest with one massive hand, and staring right at you. Blood dripping from its blood-shot eyes. Location: {N17}
Bran: You can still use the same attack roll if you choose, reprinted here, modified for guidance. Throwing axe attack: 1d20 + 3; (16) + 3 = 19+1=20; 1d6 + 3; (3) + 3 = 6
Everyone: Please bear in mind that there is a Climb check DC 12 if you want to get to Nigel on top of the Ziggurat.
Torden: Keeping a Countersong going is a free action. Your turn awaits you! Countersong 1d20 + 6; (15) + 6 = 21

Jonagher Witt |

Quick question? Do we have a surprise round on these guys? I'm guessing so. And for a rogue like Jonagher, it's a pretty vital consideration.
Perception check... 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
"Beware the statues!" Jonagher calls out, "Three of them, moving above us!"
Upon seeing the giant ape then reveal himself--and because he makes such a nice, tempting target perched on the ziggurat--Jonagher immediately fires on the beast with Bran in the hopes of injuring it and driving it away from Nigel.
Ranged attack with shortbow... 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage, if applicable... 1d6 ⇒ 1
Sneak attack damage, assuming we have surprise...and, even if we don't, it appears our opponents are still flat-footed to Jonagher since he has a higher initiative, so... 1d6 ⇒ 6

Torden Ironcask |

perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Torden continues the song as he steps into the room {N1} Since his man Witt has spotted the statues and warned the group, Torden does not pause in his performance to shout at all. He concentrates all of his efforts on drowning out the song to which these beasts sway.

I'm so sorry about the slow posting. Work is absolutely gobbling up my time, and my band has been in the studio for a couple evenings and will be tonight and tomorrow as well. It's been a wild week, but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things by late tomorrow evening. Thanks for your patience, guys, and don't think I'm quitting! Just have a ton of real life things annihilating my free time as of late. Feel free to take actions for Frik if necessary!

OOC Stuff:
Do we have a surprise round on these guys?
Perhaps during the surprise action, Origen opened the door, Bran/Jonagher/Frik moved into the room because they didn't immediately see our opponents, and Torden started playing.
If so, then Torden can act again now at the beginning of the first round, maintaining his break enchantment countersong as a free action. All opponents are still flat-footed till they act, so Jonagher gets his sneak attack. Does that seem right?
I'm so sorry about the slow posting.
That's okay. Thanks for letting us know: I'm glad that you're just busy and aren't dealing with a crisis. Let us know if you wouldn't have wanted to use the buffs discussed earlier.

Sounds about right, Origen.

DM Berwick |

Speaking of RL butting in and gobbling time, I am currently being overwhelmed with moving and what not. This is a REALLY bad place to pause, but gotta love those cliffhangers. I apologize, but I am going to have to pause the game till the Tuesday after memorial day. You guys are whipping out good tactics and burning through this anyway, so this will allow this scenario to continue to the end of the month.
To recap from the wall of text above: I need to pause the game until Tuesday after Memorial Day (this weekend.) to allow me to finish moving, and get some sleep.

Origen is correct. The surprise round was as he stated. Torden is actually up once again.
What I should have posted before was as follows:
Initiative Results
- Surprise Round
- Torden {N13} Standard Action:Begins playing
- Jonagher {O11} Move Action: Moves to O11
- Origen {O12} Move Action: Opens the door
- Frik {P10} Move Action: Moves to P10

- {8} Creature #2 (Tik Taan)
- {6} Bran {N10}
For better clarification, the stuff about the apes moving, and Da'Tunga appearing technically hasn't happened yet. I am putting all simian movement to the Tik Tann's initiative...except for Da'Tunga. Da'Tunga hasn't technically moved to where you can see him yet.
Here is a description for what you guys see when you walk into the room, at the end of the surprise round:
Mock vines cling to the wall of this grand exhibit hall, and huts of grass are strewn about the open area. At the center of this sprawling chamber, a great stone ziggurat rises out of the mist, almost scraping the 50-foot-high ceiling. At the top of the ziggurat, a rail thin elven gentleman is strapped to an altar, his bare chest painted with strange sigils and monkey paw-shaped blots of paint.

The primates in the room have painted themselves in swirls of various colors. They caper and screech, their eyes bloodshot with blood dripping down like tears.
Everyone make their perception checks, and then Torden will lead us off.

This was my move (if you can call it that) prior to the pause, and I think this is the same perception check.

Origen Leanthris |

OOC Bardic Performance:
DM Berwick, your interpretation looks right to me. It's another way that the Pathfinder bard is better than 3.5.
My Perception was a 16 earlier, unless we need to make a new roll. If so:
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

I will not list the location(s) of the Tik Taan just yet, as only those who made the perception spoilers above will know where they are in this round.
Torden
Torden continues his countersong, while looking around for a viable target.
Jonagher
"Beware the statues!" Jonagher calls out, "Three of them, moving above us!"
He draws back smoothly and fires at the closest idol.{Q9} The arrow sticks out of its arm, sinking into the exotic hardwood with a satisfying thunk. He glances about, ready to move to a better position if one is can be found. Attack Succeeds
- Ranged attack with shortbow... 19
- Damage,... 1
- Sneak attack damage...6
- Standard Action: Attack Idol; Move Action: Readied to move to a better position.
Set you as readying a move action because I don't know if you want to take it or not.
Da'Tunga
As you begin to attack, the primates look as one at the group, and a moment of silence is broken by the loud screeching of 20 some odd primates as they stare at you through the mists. A terrifying howl shatters the simian symphony of panic. A large ape leaps out of the mists and lands on the ziggurat, beating its chest with one massive hand, and staring right at Bran. Blood dripping from its blood-shot eyes. Location: {N7}
- Move Action: Jump to Ziggurat, Standard Action: Intimidate (Demoralize) Check: 1d20 - 1 + 4 ⇒ (8) - 1 + 4 = 11 vs. 11 for Bran
Bran is shaken for one round.
This puts us a Origen. Because I messed up with the perception checks, everyone take the higher roll if you rerolled.

Leofrik Forthwind |

Frik hastily casts a spell, bolstering his allies' will to fight.
Casts Bless. Sorry, I'm at work and can't access any of the maps. If this action doesn't make sense in context, please do something smart for me instead, Berwick. Much apologies, but it looks like things are simmering down for me and allowing me to post more.
Spellcraft check (if needed to cast defensively) - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

DM Berwick |

Frik
Frik takes a step backwards, casting a blessing upon his compaions as he does so. {P11}
Nigel
Nigel continues gibbering up on top of the ziggurat, and he froths at the mouth.
Tik Taan
The Tik Taan caper and manuever around the small grass huts and the screeching simians, attempting to get lost in the chaos.
Bran's Action, end of Round 1
Bran braces his back leg, and lets loose his throwing axe at the rather large ape.
Attack roll posted earlier: 19; Damage: 6
Bran's axe whistles as it flies true, and digs deep into the ape's chest. Da'Tunga roars!
Bran stalks forward, drawing steel as he moves towards the big ape. to {N8}?
We are now back to Torden.

Origen Leanthris |

The cacophony of the vile apes almost drowns out Torden's drumming. Origen hears a strange pattern to their howls with a meaning that he doesn't want to understand. He shudders, and he closes his eyes for a moment to clear his head. It steadies him, but he lose sight of the Tik Taan in the horde of crawling, hooting monkeys.
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Jonagher Witt |

To help keep things moving, I'll go ahead and post Jonagher's action, as well...
Perception check... 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
"One of the Tik Taan is headed for Nigel!" Jonagher calls out, "Somebody stop it while we deal with the ape!"
The elf then drops his bow and draws his short sword and light mace, maneuvering around Bran as he engages the beast so he can look for an opening on the ape's unprotected flank.
Free action: drop bow
Move action: draw his melee weapons
Additional move action: Moving along with Bran to flank Da'Tunga

Torden Ironcask |

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Continuing his drumming, and wary of moving too close to the great ape, Torden draws a dagger and hurls it at the Tik Tan moving toward the ziggurat.
Dagger-thrown 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 Damage IA 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"HA! A hit!" he calls. Confirm crit 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 alas, no

DM Berwick |

Delayed action not taken Torden, Initiative stays the same.
Round 2 Actions
Torden's Action, Round 2
Without missing a beat, Torden hurls a dagger with deadly precision, and it sinks into the idol attempting to climb the ziggurat. Though strangely, it seems to have no effect. Attack vs. Tik Taan #1 succeeds!
Jonagher's Action, Round 2
Jonagher draws his weapons, and readies to move into flanking position.
slightly changed your move action there.
Da'Tunga's Action, Round 2
The massive ape stands as tall as he can, and brings both fists down on Bran in a wild and chaotic slam attack. Howling in rage as it does! It connects with one fist, slamming into Bran's chain shirt, but failing to do any damage. It's momentum carries it forward as it rolls around to Bran's left.
Acrobatics check fails, Bran, you get an AoO if you want one.
- Attack Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
- Damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
- Standard Action: Attack Bran
- Move Action: Move to {M9}. Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 vs. DC 26 (Bran's CMD +10)
In response to the ape's movement, Jonagher moves forward to flank the creature.
This brings us to Origen.

Origen Leanthris |

Origen moves closer to Jonagher, taking care to stay out of the ape's reach. Move action: Move to M11.
He says a short incantantion and gestures toward the ziggurat. Standard action: Cast Grease (Reflex DC 14 or fall).
If Jonagher has indicated the Tik Taan's position and it's within the spell's 25' range, he'll cast Grease on the ziggurat around the idol so that it falls to the ground or has a much tougher time climbing to Nigel.
Otherwise, he'll Grease the ground at L8,L9,M8,M9 to trip up the ape. If so, he'll alert his friends about the spell's area.

DM Berwick |

As the ape moves past Bran, he brings the dagger across in a vicious slash. The unfamiliarity of this new and ancient weapon pulls of his aim just enough to cause his slash to fall short.
Origen's spell coats the ziggurat in a slimy buttery sheen, and the Tik Taan Idol slips and slides but maintains its balance...for now.
Frik's Action, Round 2
Going to take it for you in the interests of moving things along. Bear in mind, you currently have: guidance, magic weapon, and bless affecting you.
Frik sets his feet beneath him, looks about quickly, and focus' on the ape. He rushes in and swings with a vicious overhand chop of his greatsword. It connects with a solid blow, and cuts a vicious gash in the ape! Moves to {N10}
Nigel's Action, round 2
Nigel continues to froth at the mouth and screech like a monkey.
Tik Taan's Action, round 2
The idol starts to dance and caper around, trying to get out of the slippery area, but finds itself sliding and making no progress, though it's wooden legs pump for all their worth.
A second Tik Taan Idol jumps down from higher on the ziggurat and attacks Bran from behind, its wooden fists beating against Bran's chain shirt. Attack Fails!
A third Tik Taan Idol comes jumping out of the mists and swipes at Frik with a balled wooden fist, and misses. Attack Fails!
Tik Taan Idol #2 moves to {O9}. Tik Taan Idol #3 moves to {O9}.
Bran's Action, end of round 2
Getting attack from two different sides, Bran swings his dagger back, and slashes at the Idol that hit him from behind. His aim pulled off by distraction, he misses.
- Bran's AoO against the Ape with Mwangi Dagger: 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 3 = 11 AoO fails! Bless, Guidance, and MW Dagger
- Tik Taan #1: Reflex Save vs. Origen's Grease: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 vs. DC 14 Check Succeeds!

Jonagher Witt |

As long as Torden is acting, Jonagher would be right behind him, so I'll post now.
Perception check... 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"Somebody save Nigel! Now! Before he kills himself!" the half-elf shouts over the drums and monkey screams.
Then, in an effort to hopefully end the threat posed by Da'Tunga, he strikes quickly from behind with a vicious thrust of his short sword.
Sneak attack with flanking bonus... 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 = 22
Damage, if applicable... 1d6 ⇒ 5
Additional sneak attack damage... 1d6 ⇒ 5

Torden Ironcask |

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Torden hears Jonagher's cry and heads toward the ziggurat, though cautious of the TikTan.
Using a spell he mastered, able to cast it while still playing his drum, he endeavors to shake Nigel's mind and prevent him from doing harm to himself or others.
Move to Q10 and cast Daze on Nigel

DM Berwick |

Frik, no worries man! Hope you had a great time...camping is my favorite. That is one of the many reasons that I love Colorado.
Be advised, I will only conceal the AC of the antagonists for the first round, after that, I am pretty sure that you are smart enough to figure it out on your own, so I have no problems with you knowing them and using them in the descriptions of your own actions.

Origen Leanthris |

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
I'll be out of the loop till late tomorrow, so . . . .
OOC Actions for DM Berwick:
If the Daze works, Origen will reload his crossbow and shoot at Da'Tunga. If not, Origen will shoot at Nigel and try to knock the knife out of his hand. Either way, he'll use Guidance on the shot.

DM Berwick |

- Torden, is that to {Q11}? Q12 is in another room.
- Torden:Also, using our good friend Pythagoras, poor Nigel is out of range there, at Q11, he is 47 feet straight-line distance from you. To affect him with any close range spells, you are actually going to have to climb up half the ziggurat. It is 40 feet tall. Climb check DC 6 for half, 12 to the top. You could make a double move to {P5} without drawing any AoO, and then be able to climb it next turn enough to hit him with your chant or the spell. Or heck, even both!
- Jonagher, the idol you hit earlier was Tik Taan #2, it has an arrow sticking out of it.
- Torden, the idol you hit earlier was Tik Taan #1, it has your dagger sticking out it. I hope I got this across earlier, your attack was good, but you damage did not beat its hardness.
Torden
Torden, I will wait until the morning, if you have not clarified by then, I will go ahead and move you to {P5} if that is okay to keep things moving.
Jonagher
Jonagher leans into his strike as his shortsword slips into the Ape. The Ape bellows in rage once again, and then drops slowly, sliding off Jonagher's now crimson blade. As the ape hits the ground, and rolls slightly, blood begins pumping out of the huge gash in its side. Attack Succeeds!
Da'Tunga
Da'Tunga's brow creases in his state of unconsciousness, and his body pumps more blood onto the floor.
Constitution check to stabilize: 1d20 + 2 - 7 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 7 = 4 vs. DC 10 Check fails! HP -1
Origen
Normally disarming/sundering a held weapon requires a melee attack, but for this instance, I will allow an attempted ranged disarm because of the rule of cool.
Origen aims carefully with his crossbow, at the dagger held in Nigel's hand, and exhales slowly, building preassure on the trigger as he does so. In a calm moment, Origen looses the bolt, and it flies wide as Origen suddenly sees a frightening demonic simian face in the swirling mists.
Attempted Disarm: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 CMB vs. Nigel's CMD 13 Attempt fails.
Just need Torden to clarify, and Frik to go.

Jonagher Witt |

"Frik! Get 'im off me!" Bran yells...
Uhh...I believe..."He's dead, Jim." DM Berwick indicated the ape fell to Jonagher's sneak attack and he's at -1 hp after failing to stabilize. Bran should have free rein to move out unimpeded...except by the Tik Taan.

Jonagher Witt |

Jonagher leans into his strike as his shortsword slips into the Ape. The Ape bellows in rage once again, and then drops slowly, sliding off Jonagher's now crimson blade. As the ape hits the ground, and rolls slightly, blood begins pumping out of the huge gash in its side.
In that case, I'd like to use Jonagher's remaining move action to start heading for Nigel at the top of the ziggurat. With Da'Tunga down, I believe Jonagher can move to N7 without provoking an attack of opportunity? If so, that's where I'd like him to go. Let me know if that requires a Climb or Acrobatics (balance) check.

It was the Tik Taan I was talking about - one is trying to flank me while I fight the other. Unless I'm looking at the map wrong.

OOC Strategy:
Sorry that I forgot about the dispel magic scroll that we picked up. If Nigel is still alive next round, Origen will drop his crossbow, pull out the scroll, and hit Nigel with dispel magic. It still may not work, but it has a better chance of success.
Torden, you are not worthless at all! Your abilites have pushed you guys through this encounter WAY faster than I was expecting!
+1. Torden's countersong means that the Tik Taan have substantially more trouble messing with our minds. I'm very happy not to fight crazed PCs in addition to our real enemies.
