There, above the door! Zeldin says to Nik, and pointing at the glowing sigil I think it is the sort of magic that changes things, but I am sure that it is building energy! I think we should back away from it until we can figure out more.
Zeldin moves slowly backwards to try and get to a safe distance.
Garion Tathos
"No arguing there! COME kitty toy! let's back up!"
NIk retreats to a safe place, ideally somewhere behind Samant and his BIG CLUB that seems to be doing a great job dealing with the thingies!
Are you at GenCon, Nik?
Samant, are you well? I have one more spell I can cast as healing if you need it. Or I can save Magic Weapon in case it becomes necessary.
Garion Tathos
I'm not at GenCon: decided to stay home. I guess I got too intimidated by the event at the last minute. Remember I m still very new to gaming after all!
I know what you mean, I've never been to a major gaming convention either. Little local ones but never one of the big ones. Too many people. :)

Nik starts to head over towards the door as the platforms complete another revolution, and just as she steps across from one platform to another, the blue glow flashes brightly before dying back down to a pale luminescence. From below a buzz of energy can be heard as the four guardian creatures begin to reform within renewed electrical auras.
It looks like it'll take them a few rounds to get back up to the group, so Nik has a little time to work on the lock if she wants.

The door swings open with a slight squeal as metal moves against stone, within is what seems to be a cluttered bedchamber, and a somewhat moldy smell emanates from the room. Through the maze of books and notes stands an unmade bed, beside which lies, perfectly still and face down, a small figured woman with tangled black hair that seems to be matted to the back of her head. On the floor next to her, just next to her swollen fingers, is a perfectly smooth staff made of some greyish wood and tipped with a pair of silver wings.
Nik aka Nicephora
NIK watches to see if the small woman's chest seems to rise and fall: in other words is she breathing?
NIK checks the clutter for more metal thingies!
If there is nothing that she sees, she will a try a timid:
"Hullllooooo???? Anybody alive here??? I have yur kitty-toy here Lady Anita ..."

That'll be a perception check please.

Neither Nik or Garion are able to spot many obviously metallic objects within the clutter, certainly none of the sort that made up the guardian constructs... there is a lot of loose paper though, it would be impossible to be sure without carefully searching through the mess on the floor.
The female form near the bed is perfectly still from what the pair can observe.

Garion stumbles as he attempts to step into the room, but grabs hastily out for the doorframe and pulls himself clumsily inside. Turning the woman over to get a better look at her reveals the flesh around her empty left eye-socket to be scorched, and laying on the ground beneath her rests a spherical stone of scarlet and blue. The cleric is unable to ascertain a definite cause of death with his initial assessment; it may have been the wound to her face, or perhaps it was merely a contributing factor.
Don't worry, you only fall if you fail by 5 or more... so DC0 is where things start looking bad. Of course, you can take 10 on most checks outside of combat.

Zeldin's quick inspection of the room reveals no immediate threat, only a bookshelf covered wall, a dressing table with an empty frame where a mirror would usually be found, and two heavy wooden wardrobes. The two thin windows in the room are obscured by curtains, but not enough so that the late afternoon light doesn't shine into the room.

Rolls for Zeldin: Knowledge(arcana) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11, Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
The stone is definitely magical, but Zeldin isn't quite able to determine the exact nature of that magic. The size and shape is almost identical to the grey stones you have found so far, including, upon closer inspection, the crack running along its surface.
Please can Zeldin make a Perception check as he examines the stone?

What check would it be for me to see if the body is the Ladhy Anita?
Good question... I don't think you've asked anyine what she looks like. It'll be either a Knowledge(Local) or Knowledge(Nobility).
Zeldin Tarr
While the others examine the body Zeldin will look around the room. Are there other exits? Closets? What is on the notes? Do any of the book titles stand out? Does the staff seem to be magic? Zeldin casts Detect magic on the staff.
Knowledge(Arcana) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Whatever the cause, it appears that she has been dead for no more than a week and the eye-wound was most likely postmortem.
Can you also make a perception check please.
The notes are written in the same strange language as the notes in the main room, but the books on the walls and scattered about the floor cover a variety of subjects; histories of a multitude of countries; magical theory of golemcraft and energy manipulation; the romance novels that have become more popular as printing processes have become cheaper; and discussions on the practicality of magically augmenting ciphers.
There are also a pair of wardrobes containing a range of dresses and robes.
As the group perform their individual investigations, the sound of clinking glass sounds loudly from the dresser where Nik is stood as a small vial rolls towards the edge.
