You can see above I got 2 successes. But if ya want to keep using IC that is fine as well. I just thought I would give you the option.

This one just doesn't roll 10's over. You have to do that manually, which is usually not a problem, while IC does it for you. I'm sure either one will work.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

I didn't mean roll them in this thread, by here I meant roll them on this forum in place of having to go to IC and then link them.

And yes IC rolls them over, You may use which ever you like. I just wanted y'all to know that you could use the dice roller here if you wanted to. Which ever way you wish to do so is up to you.

Cool. Got it...;-).

Oh. I thought IC meant the in game thread or something. I don't know what that is.

IC=Invisible Castle (http://invisiblecastle.com/)

Its a dice rolling resource for PBP games, it has a wider variety of functions than the built-on forum roller, but I generally use the one on the forum since I'm lazy.

Thanks. I'll have to try that.

Many use it, But I just wanted folks to know they did not have to use it is all.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok a few things ya guys need to recall :) it's 1998 in eastern Kentucky. Cell phones are not common in the area at the time. The mountains block cell signal and even today many areas do not keep signal Hell 4 years ago I had to go up to the road stand in the yellow line and hold the phone over my head to maybe get a signal.

So at the time cell phones are rare and would not work on highway 15 anyhow. I have seen what the area looks like. Before cell towers forget it.

His father was a masonry contractor, and like his older brothers before him. From the age of 13, he worked for his old man each summer and some saturdays during the school year. An also how to tend to Steers, pigs, chickens and some hutch rabbits. Which meant with even seven boys there were plenty of chores to go around. Also concidering that that they heated there home with a pair of woodstoves and a fireplace. Which meant there was always plenty of wood that need split. Those saturdays that they weren't working or hunting. They were most likely up on the old logging roads cutting wood, then hauling it home in the pick-up, split and stacking it to let it dry a good half year or so. For use that next winter.
Shane and his brothers would one year or another all attend Warren High School. There he was fairly popular, Went to the dances and Proms and had a steady girlfriend. Played the Linebacker position on the Football team and small forward on Basketball teams. He almost had a football scholership to Pitt . But the coach that recruited him was fired. An the incoming Coach didn't want to honor the scholership. so instead he played one season at near by Jamestown College. But dropped out and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Went to USCG Training Center, Cape May, New Jersey. After recruit and then his specialty training. His first duty station was USCGC Mackinaw (WLBB 30) out of Cleveland Ohio.
For one reason or another Shane had always been interested in history, especially that of pre-gunpowered Europe and the British Isles. As well as, Fantasy. He got the Lord of the Rings Trilogy when he was 10. From his 2nd oldest brother, Jack, who had just read it, At the time he really couldn't get passed the first few chapters. So he kept to his usual Tarzan and Conan books and Comics. But when when 12. he saw the animated presentation of "The Hobbit", on TV. He then read the book "The Hobbit" and from there the whole Trilogy. An started playing Dungeons & Dragons with a weekly group of friends. By the time he was 15 he had read every Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Howard that there was to be had. When he was 17, he got introduced to the Medieval Recreationist Group called the Society for Creative Anachronism, or the SCA. By one of his D&D buddies, who's friend family, had just joined the local chapter, The Shire of Hornwood of the Kingdom of AEthelmearc. He began to shoot Archery, which he was already good at, As well as begun to train as a Heavy Fighting. He chose as his historical based persona was that of Cormac Wulfnorsen, a bold warrior, fellow Varangian and Shield Brother of the famous Norse King, Harald Hardrada, In Cormac's veins ran the of the Irish, Brian Boru. An the Norse, Ospak. of the Isle of Mann. His Grandfathers, both.
When he got on board the Mackinaw, he joined back up with the local chapter of the SCA, Which there was The Barony of the Cleftlands of the Middle Kingdom. Again shooting Archery and fighting Heavy. As well as being known as Cormac Wulfnorsen once again.
Shane had just reenlisted for another four years and had been transfered to his new duty assignment on the USCGCMonhegan (WPB 1305), out of Key West Florida. An on the afternoon and evening of 17 March 1998, was driving his Chevy Pick-up, pulling a U-Haul trailer. That between them held all his earthly belongings. He was heading east on Hwy 15, through the western foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Trying to navigate the tangle of backroads that would get him on Hwy 77 south. He had been staying with a SCA Lady friend of his that lived in Campton, for the last four days. It had been hell to leave her. But if he wanted to report on time to his new duty station. He had to leave her. Maybe she would be coming down to vistit and maybe stay. After he got settled. Looking at his watch, he had until 0700 hours tomorrow morning to get there. He would be cutting it close as it was.

Let me know what you think.

You did read my Character's background and everything is ok with you?

I don't have any the World of Darkness Rules. Are there any online Character Generators that I could use? That you don't have to download. Or maybe you could come up with one with the info. I have in the background write up. I was just looking at something on the web here. http://wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab
From what I can figure out I think his basic attributes should be

4 in Mental,
Intelligence 2
Wits 3
Resolve 2

5 in Physical
Strength 3
Dexterity 4
Stamina 2

3 in Social
Presence 3
Manipulation 1
Composure 2

I'm not sure how this works so I'm going to just number them 1-8 in the order of importance.

Anyhow if ya want to play I am more then happy to help ya make a pc.

I just edited more into my last message. I really just guessing how the rules work. If you wanted to make PC for me based on what info. I have given you so far. That would be fine with me.

I haven't read all of the messages yet. Could you catch me up on what is going on also. I would think that it would be easiest in having Greyhound Bus and my Character's vehicle in the same vacinity when the Change happens. Is Jackson Central or Eastern time zone?

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

eastern time zone. World of darkness is a dice pool based system. using d10's you roll up your total number of dice in your pool and 8,9 and 10's are hits with 10 also giving you one more dice to roll.

There should be some fast play rules on white wolves site, I think they are for vampire but it will give you an ideal of just how the rules work.

As for how skills for ya get points just like your ability. with you having 11/7 and 4. Meaning 11 points for one group , 7 for the 2nd and 4 for your last group

The game has not been going on long and is still within the first hour after the event on the highway, folks in town are farther along in the day however.

Dark Archive

Guys, sorry to barge in, but I think that you may find this interesting. It is an interview with S.M. Stirling. Introduction is in Serbian, but the rest is in English. I've done it for my blog.

Seeker, you mind giving me an idea on how many rolls I will have while treating the guy and how many successes I need? Right now I have done 2 rolls and have 1 success. Extended actions can take a while and that will help speed things along. This applies to Tommy as well, since he's doing the same sort of thing.

@SHANE: Character Sheet (HERE) can help with character creation; bottom gives stats for starting characters.

If Father Salvatori helps out with the surgery, we can work to get things done faster. We have the same dice pool so it really doesn't matter which one of us the primary, but as a secondary member of the check, things work differently. Normally, the secondary member's successes are added as a bonus to the primary member's dice pool, but it works just the same if the secondary simply rerolls their successes (ie. secondary has a base dice pool of Xd10, they roll that, get Z successes and Zd10 acts their dice pool for the check).

I think I am going to bow out. Looking at the way some of these rolls are performed, I don't think I want to learn a new system after all. Good luck people.

Here is Kalderaan's submission of a character:

Officer Kyle O'Brady.

Do you have family? Yes, but they are in Boston. I left to a quiet piece of real estate after the PTSD became an issue in a big city.

If so where are they? See above.

Are you dating? No. I spend most of my time in the gym or with my K-9 companion.

Do you have a hobby? Self-defense and now training K-9 dogs.

Where did you grow up? Kyle grew up in Boston.

Where are you living? In a small apartment.

Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's? Father is a cop but not in the area. Tough-as-nails, no-nonsense sort. Thinks I can snap out of my post-traumatic stress like it's a choice.

I created Officer O'Brady but I see Shane is very similar. I could create a field medic-type character like a Paramedic or something if that would fit the party better.

Let me know what's best for the party.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

I'll double check it in the morning, when I have more time but looks ok on a fast look. Don't worry to much about filling rolls unless you want to. Play the PC you want to play, not one you feel needs made.

Also just why are you living In Jackson Kentucky? Also as you missed day 1 feel free to fill that in as well. And would you like me to make an intro for you or would you like to just make one for yourself?

I would like to play the cop then.

He is living in KY because the big city was too much for him. He has become an avid K-9 instructor and wanted a quiet town to live in.

His backstory could be a couple of things:

1. He is here to drop off a trained K-9 dog for the Jackson Police and doesn't live here.

2. He lives here but keeps more to himself due to the PTSD.

3. He lives here to be close to a relative (divorced mom/aunt/relative) away from the big city. Perhaps he is related to the Vet doctor or even Mr. McCoy, the NRA badger.

I would prefer your introduction but only if you have time.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

If you raise or train dogs you would Know Sara wakeland and perhaps Tommy as well. shes one of the few vets i the area and the best known.

On the pawn shop, I cheated I went by a locale one and saw what they had in stock, and just kinda asked him what they carried during the winter months or after deer season. Which is more or less what I have listed, including the hang glider as they do hanglider off the cliffs in some areas around here.

Name: Michael "The Chameleon" Torres
Aliases: Answers to more than a dozen names, and never gives his real name to anyone he doesn't know EXTREMELY WELL for anything.

Occupation: Professional Confidence Man (Claims to be a "Traveling Street Magician" independent business for tax purposes, to not be investigated by IRS/etc.)

Do you have family?
An older half-sister, Maria, who raised him when their mother died. Mike never knew his father, and he never asked about Maria's father. He keeps in contact with her every few weeks, but since he switches pre-paid phones to keep from being tracked, she doesn't know how or where to contact him.

If so where are they?
New York, where she pursues a career as a threater actress but is currently an exotic dancer "until she makes it".

Are you dating?
Dating implies seeing someone AFTER the grift is over. No. But he does very frequently juggle women as sources of income, many of whom think he's away on business trips, in the peace corps, volunteering at orphanages in Hong Kong, at an Aunt's funeral, etc.

Do you have a hobby?
Stage magic. He learned sleight of hand and simple mechanics as a magician's assistant when he was a kid. To this day he practices illusions as a way to keep up with diversions.

Where did you grow up?
Miami, Florida.

Where are you living?
He doesn't stay in a single city for more than a month, tops, usually a couple weeks. Most of his "stash" is filed electronically in numerous off-shore banks (big problem when the crash occurs) and in diamonds and other high-value jewels in his sister's apartment in New York, as well as a few wads of cash he keeps on himself for emergency.

Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's?
Not really. He doesn't grow close to anyone, except Maria, for the reason that they could easily betray him (as a career betrayer, he knows it's very possible).

Thin, sleight, handsome man. A mixed latino/caucasian American born to a broken home in poverty, Mike learned fast at a young age that lies can make the world turn around, as he saw man after man take advantage of his mother.

His mother, wanting to give him an honest hobby left him often in the care of his uncle, George, who was a professional magician. It's through this that Mike got into sleight of hand, and used it, and a very creative imagination, to start running street cons, such as 3-card monte, at the young age of 11.

By the time his mother died when he was 13 he was already making a sizeable amount of side money, but unlike most juvenile delinquents, Mike didn't fall in with the "wrong crowd". By the time the police arrived in any scam of his, Mike had already ditched his outer layer of clothes, dropped his sunglasses and hat, and blended into the crowd of shocked observers.

Mike made excellent grades in most classes, usually by talking other kids into doing his homework, and by naturally good instincts in test taking, not so much his brains. He made it into a decent school, but after two semesters of class, he dropped out.

Four years later Mike is on the bus to New York to visit his sister when the crash occurs...

...should be interesting with a cop joining.

If there's anything I'm missing, let me know. For equipment, I'm not sure if they have fake ID's, passports, etc...also, lockpicks would be nice. Seems a bit stupid you need tons of disposable wealth to get that, though. Not the truth IRL.

Ah, right you are then. Let's go with phone cards, then. Same principle; don't let yourself get tracked. After all, if they were able to link Mike to all the grifts, scams, and robberies he's performed, there'd be warrants out for him all over. Good thing he's great with alter-egos, disguises, and the like. (Skill specialties, I forgot to mention - lying, fast-talking, and sleight of hand)

Don't know if you've ever read Going Postal or Making Money, by Terry Pratchett (Discworld...gotta love it), but I'm going with a better looking Moist Von Limpvig here.

"Never run, just walk away calmly. Nobody chases the guy walking away confidently."

"Everyone wants to believe that it's a real diamond and this guy is really desperate to sell it. The idea that it could be glass does cross their mind, but man, he just looks so trustworthy, and he's so down on his luck."

"No, we've never met before in our life. I've just got one of those faces."
(This may be hard with his strikingly good looks, though.)

Unchained Barbarian (Mounted Fury) | HP: 75/75 | AC: 23, T: 13, FF: 21 | Fort: 8, Reflex: 5, Will: 4 | CMB: +11, CMD: 24 | Init: +2 | Perception: +11

In addition to the fake IDs and lockpicks, here's some other items I'd like to get a hold of, but didn't really see in there (prices are probably negligible):

Pack of cards
Pack of trick cards
Set of dice
Set of loaded dice
Double-headed coin
Same exact coin but NOT double headed
Glasses, wigs, fake mustaches, hats, temporary hair dyes, pipes, and other easily identifiable accessories that he can swap out. People remember details, but never faces, after all.
Metal briefcase with false compartment.
A few spiral notebooks, locked diaries and pencils.
Grooming supplies. This man needs to look good, after all.
Some extra outfits he always carries in a backpack of various formalities...suit&tie, jeans & t-shirt, workman's coveralls, etc. with a set of shoes for each.
Toothbrush, comb, etc...this guy lives on the road.

Everything but the clothes should fit in the briefcase, easily. That's pretty much everything he carries with him, except, like I said, the spare cash and the phone cards.

I'm still working through the book, so I may grab a flaw or such to add more, but this is what I've got so far.

phone cards also a no go, cell phones were not small in 98 nor had prepared taken off. Around this area and Jackson finding one was an act of a few gods to say the lest. That and cell phones would not work in the area till towers went up about 5 years ago.

also where was ya when the event happened? it is day two with no power and it's in the mid 40's with last night dropping below freezing.

I meant phone cards to use at pay phones, but...it's kind of irrelevant considering none of that works now anyway.

I was going to say I was on the same bus as some of the other people when the event happened. I was ejected from the bus during the crash and landed in the snow, blacking out for a few hours. When I woke up there were dead bodies all around, etc., and I was bruised and scraped, but no worse for the wear since the window was shattered by the fat man sitting next to me before I hit it. So I headed towards the city to find help. Avoiding the natural course of heading to the police most people would take, I went to the nearest motel and scammed my way into a room, complaining that I had a reservation and if the power was on they'd see it filed electronically, etc... I don't know how long this power outage will last (since I have no way of knowing it's any more than a local event), I am sleeping lightly under the thick covers, with my gear in the bed next to me, since I might have to dash at any moment.

I'm gonna go ahead and bow out, man. Things are going way too slow paced. Maybe PbP isn't for me. This looks like it'd shape up to a great game if it was IRL, but you've gone through five pages of text and nothing has happened. :-/

That cool man, this one has got to a really slow start. Alot had to do with my RL issues and such and I plan to move it along. I was letting ya'll RP bit but yeah this game as been way slow and I take the blame for that. Hopefully I'll get my pacing fixed where I want it .and advance the story along

Anyhow thanks for the interest.

I too am going to bow out. I am very interested in the game but nobody has posted in several days (which is like weeks in PbP time).

Peace out.

again thanks for the interest, the not updating was me, as school started here and well things got hectic Monday and Tuesday.

But yeah this game is slow moving for now, I'll see what I can do about that. Any subjection anyone?
