And, even more on the original topic.

"A bid to ban the international export of Atlantic bluefin tuna, which is key ingredient in sushi, was killed along with regulations on the pink and red coral trade. Six species of sharks failed to get protection despite studies showing their numbers had fallen by as much as 85 percent due to the booming fin trade in China and other parts of Asia.

The sole shark to get some measure of protection, the porbeagle shark, ended up losing it on the final day after Asian nations reopened the debate and voted down regulations. Some conservationists were visibly distraught when the vote tally was read."

Shark is delicious. I don't know why these guys are just cutting off the fin and wasting the rest of the shark- to me that's more wasteful than anything else. There are several varieties/species of shark available to eat- would it be so hard to just eat shark on a year-based regimen to give others a chance to increase their numbers?

Take 'er down, I dun care. Hit somethin' hard, dun wanna limp away from this wreck.

Eat all the fish in the koi ponds?

Shark facts

Shark finning takes place at sea so the fishers have only the fins to transport. Shark meat is considered low value and therefore not worth the cost of transporting the bulky shark bodies to market.

Shark is actually highly toxic and needs special treatment before it can be consumed.

Plus their logic is: Imagine that you get $/lb for shark meat and $$$$/lb of shark fin.
Would you use your storage space on your boat for shark meat or shark fin? Higher profit wins.

Shark isn't toxic - its called flake in Australia and very expensive. The problem with shark fin is heavy metals such as mercury concentrate in the fins. This can cause sterility or worse Minamata disease.

LOL! One for your side! I always wondered how big goldfish got....

Collapse of the world's ecosystems? Well, not really. It's easy to go with the panic about how mutant zombie malaria mosquitoes will destroy humanity for killing off the birds, but it misses one fact.

Ecosystems change and adapt too. Various forms of life will find new ways to live. If one niche becomes empty, new tenants will move in.

Oh, and if we really want to save the fishes, having a mother-of-a-world-war would probably be the best option. The seas haven't seen such a nice time regarding maritime life in modern history as during WWII.

And as for the american national debt: Stop voting for people who say they'll increase spending for you. If a politician gives you a muffin, you can be quite certain you will be the one paying for it. If neither of the big parties can deal with this, push for a minor party instead.

If things still **** up, it's not your fault.
