Pathfinder.... Planet of the Apes

Homebrew and House Rules

Not set after the fall of man, but a fantasy world using Vanara as the replacement for humans (there would be absolutely no humans at all).

But what about the other ape folk, how to stat them up?

how about making gorillas as half-orcs, little monkey folk half-lings, ect... basically use the rules for all the standard races just under the guise of "monkey-man X"

That's not what I want to achieve....if it was I would've just reskinned the races and not brought this up. I am curious to know how the other ape variants would look statisticaly and need some help in that department.

For my version of the ape city in the Mwangi Expanse, I used awakened monkeys, baboons, apes and dire apes, to represent the various types (some with various fiendish / half-fiendish templates, but that wouldn't be relevant here).

You can also tweak the arbitrary assumptions of the Awaken spell, to customize that. I saw no reason at all why a 1 HD tiny Monkey would go up to Black Bear HD just because it figured out how to count past 10 without pulling down it's monkey-pants, so my 'awakened' Mwangi apes have the same HD they had as animals, and gain any additional HD through class levels or similar forms of advancement not just 'free with brain...'

Advancing tiny Monkeys to small, or downgrading large Apes to medium, might serve for other classes of primate, such as chimpanzees or just 'bigger monkeys.'

I appreciate your input Set, but my assumption for the world is that the ape folk evolved to current state instead of having it magically granted to them.

I meant use the modified animal stats. The spell itself is just the mechanical tool for conversion. It doesn't have to exist at all in the game world.

The big issue is that they wouldn't be anywhere near 'normal' PC race strength. An Ape would have a +4 Str, +4 Dex and +4 Con. A Monkey would have a -6 Str, +4 Dex.

Instead, perhaps just start with a base template, and give every simian a +2 Dex, and a choice of either small size and another +2 Dex (monkey descent), medium size and no attribute bonus but a bonus feat like a human (chimp, baboon, orangutang descent), or large size and +2 Str (gorilla descent).

So the three types, which could represent a wide range of simians, would be;
Small - +4 Dex
Medium - +2 Dex, bonus feat
Large - +2 Dex, +2 Str

Sounds good Set, I'll definitely consider it.

bump.
