Seems like it would, But ya know at some point in downtime ya can send it away at full health then bring it back. Most folks keep it with em 24/7 so sending it away at an Inn and then bring it back in 5 mins is not a massive issue.

For PFS I would say that would happen off screen anyhow so not really ever an issue there I would think.

Except the problem with that is this statement in the dismiss/resummon portion of the Eidolon's text:

Quote:
"A summoner can summon his eidolon once per day in a ritual that takes 1 minute to perform. When summoned in this way, the eidolon hit points are unchanged from the last time it was summoned. The only exception to this is if the eidolon was slain, in which case it returns with half its normal hit points.

To me, this looks like once you summon the Eidolon at 1/2 HP, every other time you summon it, it has 1/2 HP. This brings up an interesting rules-lawyering point that I personally would not follow but I'm sure there are DMs out there who would.

Yeah, unlike the Paladin or the Druid, the Summoner is in the uncomfortable position of not innately being able to heal his 'pet.'

And if you 'send it away' to save it during a rough fight? It will probably come back with less hit points than if you just let it fight to the 'death' since it comes back with the same number of hit points it had last time it was 'here' (even if that number is negative).

The first time my Eidolon went to negative hit points, I looked at Life Link, which was useless (since it hadn't 'taken a wound that would send it away'), and I looked at the option of dismissing it (which would send it away to continue bleeding to death somewhere where I couldn't bandage it), and I wondered who the heck thought this was a good idea. :)

Mechanically, your best bet is to let it die any time it gets below half hit points, since that's your best option, to let it die and then call it back at half hit points the next morning. No reason to waste party healing resources on it, and possibly endanger PCs that will cost thousands of gold pieces to raise / resurrect.

Hmm, in light of all this new info I may go with either Weapon Focus or Toughness now.

Possibility of hitting more reliably with primary attacks, or the possibility of actually surviving 1 arrow shot ;-)

I kinda like how so many of the regions in Golarions have suitable critters that can serve as Eidolon inspirations.

That's my favourite part of the class; everybody has some strange figures tucked away, that they thought would never see use.

In my Age of Worms game, the PCs are competing in the Greyhawk arena, and since they are a well-organised, strong party, I realised the official opponents just wouldn't cut it. So, as well as swapping feats around in the first round four-way battle, and giving more synergistic equipment, I fleshed out some of the extra teams, to include four pygmies from Hepmonaland.

The PCs assumed they must be casters, so have scryed on the arena during the other qualifiers, to find that the four pygmies have each brought some bizarre creature with them; each one was a Dreamblade figure, that I'd picked up purely for laughs.

Octorilla
Thunder Sultan
Rainforest Shaman
and some siamese twin crocodile pincer beast.

Needless to say, they have no idea what they might be facing, but one player knew what I was doing, and got a laugh out of it, at least.

Oooh, Dreamblade figures. That's a really good idea for use on the Eidolons. I haven't found a really good D&D Mini for mine yet... I may give this series a look at to see if I find something fun ;-)

The GM controlling something like an animal companion or summon is unfair to the player. Especially game-vs-player GMs.

If the game has become a GM vs Player sort of deal, you've got bigger problems than quibbling about who's running your monkey.

I've lost my links to the sites I used to know, but I found this one, that let's you see the figure.

And, further to my last post, the fourth one I'll be using is the Malborn Croc.
