Earnest Carbrook |
@grufflehead, I included a possible tie-in with Earnest in the background. If you'd rather not know anyone at the start of the game, let me know and I'll change things around a bit.
Nice work, sir! And that little hook is great. Not too much, but a reason for us to meet up and say 'fancy seeing you here!'
Don't know if it helps anybody else, but I can see similar relationships/links with a number of other people from Earnest. I'm not going to write them into my background explicitly but if anyone wants a reason for how/why we may get together, then:
- Earnest and the Doc have been to the same shop to buy chemicals for their own purposes
- Earnest and Val have met in a library or antiquarian bookshop while searching for an obscure tome on herbs
- Aseve, Brayker and Earnest are all searching for something/someone and have been Gathering Info in similar places. They may have seen each other on a few occasions
Will write up equipment today, which just leaves those pesky feats and I'm pretty much ready to go. Is Monday March 1st an appropriate time for the start?

Monday's good for me.
Actually, since my character may be one of the most mobile characters here (she's moving from city to city pretty quickly, usually only stopping for a week or so), it's possible she's met everybody here. Of course, it'd probably be a bit of a 'hey, that person over there looks familiar' thing, but it's food for thought.

Not to be a downer Earnest, but if you stick with Ranger until 3rd you're going to have a double on Endurance...
Ahh, you may have stumbled upon my masterplan ;)
I took Ranger as it encompassed several things I wanted to do - and, admittedly slightly game-mechanic-y, it was the easiest way to get the skills I wanted short of taking traits, and probably extra traits, then trying to shoehorn them all into my backstory.
Not planning on taking any more levels of Ranger after this. I'm waiting to see what happens in game before deciding what line I'm going down. But thanks for reading and pointing it out!
Dr. Hazard |
Yay!
Hooray!
Hey all, I just want to say up front that Dr. Hazard can be a bit insensitive & such, as he is all too often wrapped up in his own problems &/or experiments. But I am not he, and if my characterization gets on any nerves/steps on any toes, let me know and I'll tone him down...
edit: EpicViper I just figured out who your character reminds me of... the bad guy, McLeach(?) from The Rescuers Down Under.

No way, you've roleplayed im beautifully so far!
Looking down at the halfling and Ellaria, Thelonious replies, "I am pursuing scientific knowledge... and you can't have it." Looking about, Hazard notices that the rat is gone, "Blast! You've made me lose my rat!"
I laughed out loud at this. Well played, Odin.

Hahaha, that's so good - I'll take it!
"Home, home on the range / Where the critters are tied up in chains / I cut through their sides / and I rip off their hides / and the next day I do it again. Everybody!"

Her smile falters. "Is there something wrong?" she asks, looking agitated.
I just thought something should be clear: Aseve is a good manipulator. When she says things like this, she realizes that it's probably something private and that it doesn't concern her. But information wheedling is a habit of hers, so she does stuff like this all the time. Don't think I'm just painting her as unrealistically dramatic.

It adds depth to the character. Depth is good.

Abstract, if I'm going overboard with the bluff checks and suchwhat, please tell me and I'll tone it down.
No, it's working well for me. It gives people a chance to challenge you if they see fit - especially as the party has only just formed and trust will be low.

I agree with abstract, I like it too; it really helps to understand your character's perspective.
That said, should Emrys ever has a reason to consider Aseve's words to be false he'll definitely be considering them more carefully. He's generally trusting, and prefers to only weigh an individual's motives after lengthy interaction, rather than as a result first impressions. So, for now, he'll remain in the dark to your nervous tick and its meaning.
;D

Hazard wants to see to the apprentice and was planning on going straight to the caves at Tharn. I am also confused as to the disposition of the rest of the group.
Aseve, Carbrook and Valendrian are escorting the body to Cassomir, gathering information on the Five, and will meet everyone else at Tharn when done.
Those continuing down the road intend to stop at the first town they encounter, presumably Greendale, in order to get directions to Tharn. Then they're heading out to the caves to retrieve the apprentice.
After the business with the wizard's apprentice is finished, those who want may return to Greendale in order to confront the cult presence there.
