Howdy, y'all! Just stopping through. With this insane schedule this week, I haven't had time to post anything, but I'm still lurking.
I managed to get through yesterday without having a nervous breakdown...although I really wanted to.
I was able to channel a massive amount of nervous stress into handling a crisis with the local area network for which I am, unfortunately, responsible. What I mean by that is the people who maintain it work for me, but I don't know nearly enough about how the system works.
What I do know is how to get people moving so they can come to the ship and help us fix it when it breaks.
Odd how scrambling to manage a crisis is somehow more comforting than dealing with the "normal" daily routine around here...
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good night. I'll be spending the rest of the evening terrorizing my combat watch team with tactical scenarios...using really big weapons...but without ammo...yet. ;)
I'm hoping to make it out to your ship in the next year or so for some work.

Glad you're still sane.
I think the stress of a crisis helps you block out all the little stressors that drive one insane. :)

I have written a lot of things. I have a book I wrote in Highschool for my English 4 class. Started out ok but the ending was very poor. My skill was much better when I actually tried to write. I used to make paintings and artwork too.
I am unsure of why I stopped. I mean I was not great but I was not bad either. More practice would have made better ...everything. :/
I used to write a lot of philosophical proses (my version of poetry) up until 2001. They're probably no longer extant, though.

There's a line in Rocky Horror Picture Show involving Janet that would've been appropos right about the time you were originally posting your msg.

It'll be good to meet you, AZ. Of course, you'll have to hurry. In theory, I transfer at the beginning of 2011.
Glad you're still sane.
I fear you assume too much. But I appreciate the sentiment. ;-)
have fun?
I shall certainly try. As long as the electronics don't fail me ::knock on wood (which is unsurprisingly difficult on a steel ship)::, we stand to have an enjoyable evening shooting down missiles and blowing up bad guys. After which, I will promptly crash in bed for a four- (maybe five-) hour nap before getting up to go on watch again.
Yay!

Is this a regular schedule? How do you do it?

Well, if you go to another amphib (or a carrier), I may show up sooner or later. Steam is my business.

It's not uncommon, really, especially when we're at this phase of training. There are just too many things that we have to do and precious few hours to do them in. We tend to "chock-a-block" the day full of stuff while we're underway in the hope that we can crash and recover after we get back home.
Frankly, though, I'm starting to feel like I'm getting too old for this $#!+. I manage by drinking unhealthy quantities of coffee throughout the course of the day. At this point, I can drink a double shot of espresso and immediately lie down and fall asleep.
