Had a question about apl.I have a party of four and each characters level is 4. now i have a friend coming to join the party who has finished his time serving in the army and wants to start a character in the pathfinder society but the other players do not want to stop progression on there current characters and myself as gm as well as the newcomer are ok with the level difference. So my question is to josh asking if the pathfinder society is ok with this? as i understand the math he makes the apl 3.4 rounded down to 3. but is this legal?

Well, he'll always be 3 levels behind everyone else, which means he'll pretty much always feel like his life could end at any moment. If he's level 4 and you guys are level 7 running a Tier 7-11, I highly doubt he'll live.
The first rule of PFS is "Play Play Play" and I want you guys to do what you need to do in order to play. Are you sure you can't, as a group, play a few new low-level scenarios with the guy with new low-level PCs to get him closer in level? Your group has to ask themselves, "Do we really want our progression to out-weigh this guy's fun? He's going to be a death magnet being so many levels behind us."
So it's up to you. I'd prefer you were playing closer in level, but what the rules prefer and what needs to happen to make a table are often at odds--when that happens, we nearly always side with making the table.
