The Chymick and the Ossuary Golem.
I only used two of my four votes, 'cause I just wasn't wild enough about any of the other entries, though some came kinda close.
One thing I also like in each year's RPG Superstar is seeing if the people I liked in Round 1 continue to delight me in each new round.
So far I'm quite digging the progression of Benjamin Bruck's
Steadfast Gut-Stone // Chymick
and Matthew McGee's
Batrachian Helm // Ossuary Golem.
I like what I'm smellin', and what I'm smellin' is the sweet, sweet tang of Superstardom! ; )

Still lurking around to spend my last two votes though:)
Well, there goes my last votes:)
Tom Phillips — Slithering Horror
Jim Groves — Skintaker
I agree with you guys, too few votes:) Lots of good concepts this year, looking forward to the next round:)

The Harbinger Star Voter Season 9 |

David Posener/ Haga
Jim Groves/ Skintaker
Matt Goodall/ Churjiir
Matthew McGee/Ossuary Golem
The Aussies came on strong this year.
Runner-ups for me were:
Ardorwesp
Astrumal
Chymick
Rotling
Splorudra
Right now, Matthew McGee is in the lead for me, as I liked his Wondrous Item most among the 4 I voted for.
All 32 of these were great, fascinating reads. Thanks to everybody who submitted!

Lots of creepy shock value monsters to choose from, but not many "OMG thats Freaking cool" ones. my 4 votes go to.
1)Benjamin Bruck - Chymick (one whose item i would have voted for in round 1 had i been given the chance).
2)Tom Phillips - Slithering Horror (another round 1 favorite for me).
3)Jason Schimmel - Caltrop Golem (didn't like his item, but this monster caught my attention).
4)Richard Hunt - Splorudra (teenage mutant ninja...frogs? much like yoda-fu in the star wars prequels - this things just cool).

![]() |

In no particular order:
Ossuary Golem
Caltrop Golem
Chymick
ArdorwespAlso, what the heck was it with "when you get a lot of them together, they get smart"? That showed up multiple times and I didn't like it at all. Seemed a cheap way to fill two monster slots with one monster.
It worked for Voltron... ;-)

Dredan |

In particular order:
1)Jesse Benner—Chaitrakhan (nicely done with the heat senses)
2)Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem (possessed golem nice)
3)Matt Goodall — Churjiir (nice low level boss, interested in how you will keep the CR down with all of the abilities stated)
4)Alexander MacLeod — Ardorwesp (Wasp with metal...oh the ideas I have for this one..gnome's familiar?? hehe)
This year there was a lot of undead, constructs and gross monstrosities (must be because of the influx of "Saw" type movies out). I am a firm believer that a monster doesn't have to be nasty looking or gross to strike fear in the PC's. I voted for these entries because they set up the environment or habitat that each creature lives in effectively. Very easy to incorporate into your world because the environment description was nicely done.

1 Erik Randall — Sin-Fallen Angel of Gluttony

Please correct me if I double counted. And, of course, these exit polls are NOT predictive. After all, two votes puts you in the top 16 right now.

Roguerouge- thanks for vote-tallying-
As I recall, you did that for the similar threads I started for last year's contest as well- the unofficial exit polls.
I also appreciate your reminder to all contestants not to get unduly dismayed if their entries aren't getting many 'votes' herein. I don't actually remember exactly how it correlated last year- but I think the accuracy of these exit polls were *far *from 100%, in regards to what finally won. Sometimes I think we were only batting about 50%, though I don't recall precisely...
Anyway, what the hay- it's fun!

I wanted monsters that would make players panic and/or did something no current monster was doing.
Ardorwesp-I can write in telepathy which was my only real concern
Ossuary Golem-I don't like the idea of corporeal undead being inside of them, but I can work around that
Lahamu-The idea of Vampire ponies was not to scary, but losing charisma, which is generally a dump stat is.
Slithering Horror-The attack that keeps on attacking. Using a few of these will make players panic, especially if they are low on hp.

Aside for my own Liesinger (can't expect anyone to believe in you if you don't believe in yourself), the Spitfire hit me like a ton of bricks and definitely has my vote.
Having a hell of a time working out the other two. I almost feel like there's no real weighing of pros and cons, because the number of entries so good that they DEMAND my vote outnumber the number of votes that I can cast.

I also had a hard time choosing my top 4. There were a couple that were my clear favourites, and then about 6-8 others that I wanted to vote for. The competition is very fierce this year.

Paramo |

Slithering Horror was my favorite by far. My perfect type of monster.
Ossuary Golem came in second. I agreed with one of the judges that breaking something isn't always the best answer, and this really turns the idea of bash-now-worry-later on its head.
Skintaker was another because it filled such a nice niche, and it was eerie besides.
And lastly Splorudra, because of its really old school vibe. I could see it in a number of jungle or swamp based 1e modules, including Temple of the Frog hehe.

Actually, I recall that the polls, after receiving about 50-80 people's input were pretty much 100% accurate with the exception of the bottom 2 advancers in the first round. (You need enough input to be statistically significant). RogueRouge did a good job of separating up the tiers thus far and his top two will likely advance, but the really meaningful numbers will be arriving in a few days.
That is not to say that this year's results will be predictive, however. Who knows if people lie this year, or there are more voters than posters and the posters turn out to be non-representative.
For submittees who suffered Clark's disapproval, high support in this thread may turn out to be noncorrellative-- given that some non-posters may be less involved in the contest and more trusting of the judges; therefore, they may be likely to just skim Clark's A,B,C scale and read submissions (and vote) based solely on that time-filter.
Example from 2009: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/rpgSuperstar/rpgSupers tar2009/general/exitPollsRound2&page=2
All were correct except Boemundo.
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/rpgSuperstar/rpgSupers tar2009/general/exitPollRound4&page=2
Dorman beat Gulliver by 3 votes in the Poll; but won the actual vote. This likely didn't predict because it wasn't statistically significant. Comments on this thread suggested that this and Boemundo were the only 2 predictions that were incorrect in 2009.

Okay, Light Dragon- sounds like you remember far better than I do! (Though it's funny, I just checked this thread after re-reading some in CHILDREN OF DUNE - which was just getting very stern about the fallacies of prediction...) But I'm happy to being housing a host of Useful Augurs, here on this thread...
btw, how come I don't seem to have any of my old aliases handy (I believe last year it was 'Marcus o' the Green') - I'm guessing that they die out if you haven't used 'em in a while - ?
EDIT: Never mind, I found Old Me...

Lets see,
After two days of careful deliberation, and a spreadsheet weighing their merits:
I love these three, and would I would be crushed not to see stats for them.
James Martin — Wyrnhiri
(Oh so very very sweet, degenerate dragons with flightless membraneless wings, inspired!)
Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem
(Monster within a monster, and classy to boot, yes please!)
Stephen Sheahan — Corpse Sticher
(It's stitching corpse bits onto it's body with it's own frigging thread people!)
There are alot of entries right at their heels but I chose the Haga as my 4th vote, after all the Haga already knows who's going to win this year.
David Posener — Haga

![]() |

Votes for:
David Posener - Haga - probably my #1 favorite of the round
Benjamin Bruck - Chymick
Jesse Benner - Chaitrakhan
Lief Clennon - Rotling
Just missed:
Joshua Kitchens - Astrumal
Richard Hunt - Splorudra
Sean McGowan - Rictus
I agonized a bit between the Rotling and the Astrumal and finally went with Lief's entry on the strength of his round 1 entry (liked the blossoms a bit more than the locket). I went with Jesse in round 2 even though I was not a fan of his item, though I was tempted to switch Sean with him because I liked the monkey in round 1.
I have not read any of the 'exit poll' so far.

Quandary |

Sorry if this complicates the count :-)
But I updated my vote to: (in alphabetical order)
Brown Urus, Lantern Thrall, Rictus, Rotling
Skintaker is very awesome, but it looks like it's doing fine without my vote right now. :-)
I also really loved the Astrumal and hope you make it to the next round, but 7k Blossoms and Cacophonous Monkey from 1st round swayed my vote there.

Some hard choices in this round, but my votes went to:
Nicolas Quimby — Liesinger : I absolutely adore this monster, and feel that the creator deserves a big pat on the back for creating something creepy, reasonably balanced and well-constructed.
Joshua Kitchens — Astrumal : There's just something awesome about 'creature from beyond the star' that calls out to me. Furthermore, this one's different from most that I've seen in my time gaming. Gold star.
Jesse Benner—Chaitrakhan : So much awesome. Evocative, well-designed and creative.
Benjamin Bruck — Chymick : Construct love. This is well-designed and supernifty. Bravo!
