I'm curious how other GMs handled the town's reaction to certain events as they occur in the AP. The AP has done a great job making Sandpoint feel like a living, breathing town, but that means that the town must react to what is taking place.
My first question is: How does Sandpoint react to Lonjiku's death?
I'm looking forward to hearing how others handled this and other events. Thanks!

Shock, gossip, and Councilman Scarnetti refused to let Ameiko take her father's seat until her potential involvement in her father's murder had been ruled out. After all, she was the only family member to ever show Tsuto any compassion, and she was found in the basement of the Glassworks just 1 room away from her brother. They only have the word of these roustabouts (i.e. adventurers) as proof she was tied up and not an accomplice, and they might be hired mercenaries in her employ anyway!
That was a ploy to swing the council in their favor 2 to 1 against the Deverins and to use the advantage to push through some tax/trade laws to favor the greedy Scarnettis. As to the rest of the town, they are about to have a LOT more to worry about than mean ol' Lonjiku's death...

In my campaign Lonjiku was a pillar of the local artisan community, and a source of much revenue and reputation for the town. His death and the death of many of his workers literally crippled the town's economy for weeks.
Enter the Warforged Artificer PC, a Thassilonian construct recently salvaged from beneath Thistletop. By arrangement with the party's wizard who "owns" him, the warforged is assigned, by agreement to run the glassworks. He manages to reverse engineer Lonjiku's exotic Tian techniques, and even improve on them, training a new workforce.
So that's how I handled that. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, another economic crisis strikes the town in the form of murders at the sawmill, and elsewhere.

Lonjiku's Death does cause shock and whispers throughout Sandpoint. Said shock is a little bit overshadowed by the fact that the town has goblin problems (and later ghoul and giant problems), but I'm quite interested to see how things played out in everyone's game!
The Kaijitsu tale, in any event, is hardly just begun. Lonjiku's death, and Ameiko's resulting rise to power as the Kaijitsu family leader in Sandpoint, is going to play a VERY important part in an upcoming adventure path.

Ooh, I like it! And I've been looking to insert Councilman Scarnetti into the mix, so that would be perfect! I'm so glad I asked, cuz I'm totally using this. :-)

I've mentioned it here and there on the boards. The AP will be called "The Jade Regent." No start date yet, and not much more to say about it for now, other than it's going to involve a LONG journey and a fair amount of time spent on the other side of the world in Tian Xia.

Interesting Question then Mr. Jacobs. If the APs aren't having direct long term impact on the setting as has been discussed in other threads, is this one going to establish RotR events as canon or just the Kaijutsu's events?
