Antique Shops & others things for my non gaming wife?

Liberty's Edge

We are coming out for a week so we can enjoy a vacation that will be centered around the Con

My teen age son and I are gamers but my wife is not so she will have plenty of alone time to kill during the weekend itself (we will all be doing family stuff during the days leading up the Con itself of course)

So my question is ... Are there any antique shops near the hotel? How about any other cool places like that for my wife to check out? Maybe some cool craft stores or scrapbooking places? Basically I just want her to have something to do while my son and I are enjoying the Con!

Thanks!!!

My wife is coming down as well with (by the time of the show) a 2 1/2 year old. She doesn't game and well he games he just doesn't know it yet. :O)

So there will be other "wives" that do not game that might be looking for things to do.

Mall-lovin' spouses can always visit Bellevue Mall.

I believe there is also a movie theatre in proximity to the mall, but I dont remember how far.

If you didn't drive to get there, I suggest renting a car to get to places. There are plenty of places to visit in the area, but like most American cities the best stuff isn't always within walking distance.

There is a lot of natural beauty in the area - outside of city limits, too.

There's a doll museum in Bellevue.

I have to admit I've been there, and it was actually kind of cool. I mean, you know, given the subject matter. Not that I play with dolls.

Spoiler:
That Princess Leia is a LARGE SCALE ACTION FIGURE, dammit!

The assorted non gaming spouses could always form a gaming widows club..

I posted this in another thread, but:

Just a little "heads-up" to all those who are bringing spouses and kids, and are wondering what they can do whilst you are gaming it up...

Being local, my wife has mentioned that she would be up for going to the zoo, aquarium, science center, or other such venue that is favorable to children on the weekend.

As we near the time, we can iron out the details for all those interested.

Also, while not into antiques, my wife is into crafts and scrapbooking. We have a Ben Franklin store in Redmond that is chocked full of that stuff. Me? I try to not set foot in there!

It is acceptable if the princess leia is in the gold bikini. If it is, rock on Vic

Man I love to hear about people kids getting into gaming. I have a 13 month old and he loves my books and minis (his fave is a Beholder Tyrant). And that your wives are going with you to a Con, it gives me hope to get my wife(new gaming) and my son into it together. And this also helps to end the myth that we are all uber nerds that can't talk to women.

Yeah ...

When my son was little, he used to LOVE to page through my Monster Manuals and look at the pictures. As he got a little older, he would ask me about various creatures and we would have very interesting conversations (for some reason, he was really drawn to the Roper)

Now, he is 15, he is a darn good D&D/Pathfinder player and we play together in a weekly Pathfinder game.

Never in a million years did I imagine when I was a 14 year old D&D player that some day my son and I would be going to a D&D convention together.

Pretty cool stuff, actually! :)
