Yeah, recruit away. I like this game.

I'm moving next weekend, which is why I've been slow to upgrade/spend my XP. But I'm not going anywhere.

It only gets better, once that circle 4 breakpoint hits, which opens up thread items...it becomes even better.

I may eventually make Thread weaving a circle 2 talent option as a house rule.

I'm moving this weekend so I won't be able to update my character until later on after I get internet, which should be on monday.

I'm still in.

What do I need to do to advance my character?
I see that getting a talent or skill to level 2 is 200 legend points.

I am a bit confused on what else is needed to advance. Do I need to get certain talents or skills to get to Circle 2?
(I wasn't able to find that info.)

Txoro,
Can I get a name for where I'm from?
(Since it's not from this village.)

Not just me then? ;) I think I got there in the end, but I'll let Txoro explain it - he'll do a better job than me...

Male

Sorry I've been quiet lately, lots of travel for work has kept me busier than I expected.

To go up to Rank 2 you need all of the talents (but not necessarily the option talent) for your class to be rank 2.

It also takes a lot of practice time to improve skills, talents can improve with an evenings meditation. I think the training time for talents comes when you go up in circle, and the improvements come later as you absorb what you learned then.

It does really drive home the difference between talents and skills. Some are functionally the same, but it will always be faster to advance your talents.

So... I can increase
TALENTS
Maneuver (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Parry (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp

SKILLS
Disarm (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Great Leap (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Wilderness Survival (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp

and increase my
Strength 7 to--> (8) = 800 lp

That's my 1800 total.

Then I would just need to increase
Karma Ritual (1)
Taunt (1)
to level 2 then I could be Circle 2.

Right?

Scarab Sages

Also, what happens if I have a skill already and Circle 2 has the talent available?
Are those wasted skill points? It seems like a waste to have a skill and talent of the same thing/ability.

Right?

You don't spend LP for attribute increases currently, I'm using the "Free attribute increase" option at each circle increase (this is because I want to keep the game moving faster, and those LP used for attributes normally can be spent on talents instead of attributes.) [pg. 238 top right - Free Increase]

To hit 2nd circle you need to get 5 main talents at 2nd rank. (then you have to have enough to buy your new talents at rank 1 minimum.)

I think I mentioned that on the last page.

Skills do not factor into the increase of circle at any time!

Skill training times (from pg.239)

Rank 2 requires 2 weeks training and 3 weeks of practice to learn.

That would be for EACH skill you're training,

I don't think we're going to have a full 15 weeks of down-time.

In addition, skill (1) -> (2) costs 300LP (skills are far more expensive than talents)

How much down time will we have? (or how many skills can I increase?)

Can I still increase my Strength anyways? Paying for it now and getting the free one at the circle advancement?

Is it worth it to have a skill and also have a talent?
Isn't that a waste to have?
(I know that the skill does nothing to help advancing Circles.)
Can I change my Heartening Laugh to something else so I don't duplicate/waste the points?

You can either make up a small village you're from, or you could be from Throal, or you could have most recently been from Haven, and you might know Hiermon, I did mention some of you might have been dispatched from Throal or Haven.

Throal is the major dwarf city, as a troll you wouldn't be from the main part of the city, you'd be from the outer city, where non-Throalic citizens are from, you'd know about the Library of Throal.

Cool.
What city are we in now?

Don't forget my other questions above too.

This is the New Village of Tsennan.

No you can't buy a Stat increase and get a free one, the free increase replaces the purchase options.

I handed out enough LP to get everyone to 2nd circle so we could move on to the next level, as I said I'm going to accelerate the game to 4th circle as fast as possible, without actually starting it there. So with that extra 800 LP, you could increase 3 more talents to 2nd rank, and purchase two talents (circle talent and talent option) to rank 2. which would advance you to 2nd circle. As soon as you advance to circle two you automatically receive your Circle 1 stat advancement.

Skills are in the game to give a greater depth of character, skills are always outclassed by talents, skills often are weaker (Great Leap is in feet, not yards for the skill), they can NEVER use karma, and they max out at rank 10, versus 15 for Talents. Talents are powered by discipline magic. Skills are trained.

Knowledge skills, Artisan skills, and many non-combat skills are largely unavailable as talents, though some are accessible as half-magic uses based upon discipline.

I know it's a lot to absorb...heh.

Ok, I'll be from Haven.

So what about the skill I already bought? Heartening Laugh?
Can I switch it out since it's a duplicate of the talent I need?

Yeah, it is a lot but it will be ok.

Yeah, it is a lot but it will be ok.

There are rules for turning a skill into a talent, I think there's a LP discount for it, I'll have to look it up. Or you can choose a different skill.

I'll pick a different one. Easier all around. :)

"Helooooooooo?" I posted to the game thread on Tuesday but no love...where is everyone?

Sorry, had a very busy week or so at work. Tried bumping the recruitment thread - perhaps someone else can do it next time? I'm also trying to persuade one of my friends to come on board. He's never done pbp (but is a very experienced player) but he was very enthusiastic about ED when I ran a game a few years back. He's also even busier than me at work - but as the game has a gentle pace to it I'm hoping I can persuade him that 15 minutes to review and post every few days isn't too big a drain on time for him. I'll let you know...

Unfotunately I have a feeling that due to everyone's schedules, the game is defunct...

I wish it weren't so, however if you guys want to run a solo or duo game and you're up for consistent posting, we can work something out.

Yeah, it's looking like we're done. I'm really surprised more people weren't willing to give it a go as ED is hardly an obscure niche system - wrong time maybe. Anyway, thanks for giving me the chance to finally play it. Funnily enough I'm finding I'm on here more and more rarely these days. Only got 1 current pbp here now, and the posting rate has been so slow, maybe I'll just cut my ties - 1 less site to have to check!

My schedule is screwed LoL...I'm partially unemployed currently. Not fully partially...weird situation...decided to go ahead and look for a new full-time job anyway...

Good luck finding something soon

I bought the books just for this PbP.... :/

I can run a solo adventure for just you Fray...we can continue from the point in the town of Tsennan, the rest of the party escorts them to Bartertown while you head to Haven with the necklace.

Hi there! Someone just dropped a note over at enworld about this game. I'm an old ED fanatic, to understate it :)

Mind if I take a look around? Might be interested in joining up.

Scarab Sages

M carbon based dice form graphic guy 10 / geek 5 / collector 6 / daddy 2 / GM 4

I'm game for you to join if it's cool with Txoro. (He's the GM so...) :)

Poking this to see if it's dead...

If not, I'm all up for a game! I've got an Excel-based ED3 character creator I'm itching to test.

Hmm, may be dead...If anybody drops back in, look me up for a game session!

I'll be posting in the future about an ED3 game I'm starting here. It will use the Misguided Ambitions scenario and I'll have a set of characters playing through as NPCs that are all open for players. That should allow folks to jump in, see how the game handles, and if necessary drop out without interrupting game play...
