I for one could not stand that game.

System no, I'm with you there. But storyline I loved.

And yet you did get that DREDAN free campaign offer, right? Ironic. :P

Besides, Star Wars is essentially sci-fi fantasy, ain't it?

Ah I see. I'm all for mixing things around if I can get a good mix. Heck the villainess of a story I'm writing is a Technomancer in a world where magic and technology exist side by side but tend not to get along.

Dude, it's free stuff. You just don't turn that kind of offer down ;)

Sounds interesting to me.

CJ, you're making me weep here. But it's okay. We're still buds.

It really depends on the setting. Starwars is really a fantasy set in space and the setting is quite good. My standard cross genre issues is when a setting tries to do too much. Rifts, shadowrun and a few others just seem to cross some internal boundary for me. While I have played many a times in games where the space ship has crashed on the fantasy world. Heck even once from the side of the guys in the ship. It is by and large not my cup of tea. I do however always look for the diamond amongst the glass beads in the world which is why I did sign up for the Dredan setting and will give it a thorough look through. If for no other reason then to find that one example which will make me eat crow. I know it is out there somewhere I have as of yet to find it.

I am more of a Darksun and or Ravenloft type of guy myself.

Love Dark Champions the animated series style rules.

I am still waiting for a Sci Fi world setting that will totally knock my socks off though. Been tempted to run again a post apocalyptic world that is nothing so much as a worst case scenario of the Terminator/Highlander/The Postman and a few other 80's sci fi classics.

That just means that California is a large part of the big IOU we've been writing to China all these decades. Better learn to love rice. :)

We'd better, else we'll all fall in the ocean with them ;)

What would you call your new country in the U.S.?

The Theocracy of Chubbsland!

What would you put first when it came to your new government?

The worship of the Almight Mouselord Chubbs McGee!

How would you sell this idea to those that will have to die for it?

There will be cheese for all and 72 virgins apiece!

Would your government be a socialist type state?

Kind of, sort of, not of... Theocracy all the way baby!

Would you see yourself as a worthy dictator?

I already do!

Been reading some of the good stuff on the Civil War thread and got to thinking.

Is it possible that the U.S. will have a second civil war?

Nah, throw that one out for a second. Let's say the 2nd American Civil war is a certainty.

If you were going to overthrow our government, what would you change radically?

Take into account this nightmare situation. The debt of the U.S. is unrecoverable and the government is heading for a complete collapse. Corporations hold the true power in the country and the politicians are previous employees of those corporations. Oil is no longer able to meet demand and dwindling, so the price is about 15 dollar a gallon. All goods and services have risen in price as to force a major portion of the U.S. into poverty. Commuting to work has become unfeasible and all the bedroom communities are unable to keep their cheap housing by shear expense of getting to work.

Given these factors, anger and resentment has turned many to the idea of a Civil War to break away from the U.S. or possibly overthrow it.

The plus side is the U.S. government owes the debt and a new government wouldn't honor those debts.

First off - it would take very little to push the US economy into Fail. The USA is committed to borrowing ten Trillion from China making China Vulnerable to US Failure. Now consider an alternative. I as President of the Lunar Commonwealth approach the CHinese with a Better offer. I offer to borrow 2 billion-billion from the Chinese over the next hundred years for Exclusive Collonization of the Moon. The advantage compared to the US alternative is that I will spend that money in China on the Developmwnt of its Space Colonization Capacity effectivly employing CHina to Help me colonize the Moon.

It bails on its existing US losses leaving the USA to die in unemployment. The USA slips into melt down and full unemployment in its Coastal states (simply an escalation of existing trends). The Unemployed begin pouring into Canada and Mexico fleeing to a better life.
The Central States begin a war with the 10 million refugees who pour into the heartland looking for a scrap of the American Dream. The Coastal regions fall into banditry as tens of millions of starving, homeless and unemployed US citizens riot against the Police State that has responded with brutality and force of arms against the poor.

Desertions in the Millitary force the federal government to employ mercenary groups like Blackwater on US Soil for Urban Pacification. Horrified at the Federal Government seizing control of individual States, the Union fractures descending into chaos. Civilians pour into Canada overrunning them. US security contractors in control of Canadian Borders and Ports are involved in an attempted Coup when the US Fed decideds to secure Canadian Resources and Territories all the way to the North Pole.

Canada Collapses into an occupied territory filled with Canadians increasingly involved in acts of Terrorism against US Forces.

Scenario 2: FIRE SALE

CHINA decides not to loan more money to the USA and instead spends it's wealth on the construction of a technologically advanced City in China capable of Supporting a billion Population. The Beijing Gigaplex does however need assets. It offers the USA a different Loan - It offers to buy up all its patent technology. A Fire sale shifitng US Technological Assets to China.

Because all this wealth went to US corporations, it flooded the corporations with the sort of fund that would allow the USA to spark a new Research Age allowing Corporations to develop new technologies for the future. The US government itself is bankrupt, and must borrow from the US private sector to stay afloat.

I recall that a Fallout d20 game was in the works, until the company was given a cease and desist order (the original license was sold by Interplay to Belthasa; I guess the rights to publish a pen and paper version were sold to Dead Gluch Games prior to that and rendered invalid). It was a real shame to see it die; I would have loved it as a campaign setting, complete with d20 rules.

I had my own idea for a post-apocalyptic science fiction setting, taking place in an alternate timeline following a nuclear war that resulted from NATO exercise Able Archer 83. Still on the back burner, but maybe one day I'll finish it.
