The Problem with America is that you think its bad moms, failing marriages, Religion, alcohol, and drugs, and a load of other stuff. They are not. These are symptoms. You get people in paying jobs with good health and seurity, and homes and eduation and you get rid of a whole bunch of these problems. You ban the sale of Alcohol - and let folks home brew, you remoVe a lot of the Violence that is masking real problems like psychological problems. A lot of the psychological problems stem from stress of working for less than your toil is worth and being treated like slaVes. In the end it is a hundred years of bad economic pratice that will be at the source of eVery problem. Obama is not going to fiX it...you are. March into your local government and inform them that the solution is to ban the sale of Alcohol and Tobacco and yet allow people to make their own for personal consumption. That is the cost of employing an army of police officers to deal with drunks in the street. Here in Australia the average household spends enough on beer to buy an eastern European car that sells at eight thousand dollars (Aust) every one to two years. – Lets put it on the table – your alcohol costs your wife a new car.

Actually, this story reminded me of the woman who called 911 because the McDonald's drve-thru failed to include the McNuggets in her order.

You know, at first, I was taking that essay seriously, and getting quite pissed that yet another parent has bought the propoganda from all the way back in the 80's.
Then I got to the part where she was talking about how it will make it impossible for you to relate to jocks and beauty queens.
I laughed.
Still, even as a joke, that kind of mudslinging REALLY f##~s with the way people see our hobby. When I was younger I had to deal with my mom thinking that I was worshipping Satan because I played D&D. It took her over 3 years of constant talks and explanations of what D&D was and how I used it for her to realize it really is just a game.

What's wrong with America is also what's wrong with the world in general:
1) A lack of emphasis on education and basic human compassion.
2) An overemphasis on wealth, power and glory.
3) An irrational hatred towards people who are "different".
4) A false sense of entitlement and the desire for instant gratification. Nobody wants to work hard for anything.
5) A lack of accountability. It's always somebody else's fault.
6) An "us" vs "them" mentality, which ensures that nobody can ever agree on anything. So change and progress are slow to happen.
7) A fear of change, so close-mindedness is encouraged and creativity and open-mindedness are stifled.
8) Money and power are valued over human lives.
9) The use of fear-mongering to instill panic and create a mob-mentality among the masses.
10) The desire to push your own personal feelings, attitudes and opinions on everybody else.
The list goes on.
The world is producing people who are ignorant, highly competitive and greedy.
Actors, musicians and athletes are idolized and paid millions of dollars, while teachers are demonized and paid next to nothing.
Public schools are more like daycare than educational systems.
A better education system would produce smarter people and solve many of our problems.
In some parts of the world, women are still accused of being witches and are killed. Children are sacrificed to appease the gods and end drought. Evolution is banned from school because "contradicts" creationism.
It's difficult to believe crazy things like this happen in the 21st century, but it just goes to show how primitive human beings really are.
The world is ruled by fearful, insecure people who band together and make life miserable for everybody else.

And just when you thought you'd heard it all...
sorry no sympathy, the unrully little brat needed to be tazzed and handcuffed.dont care if she was 10 or 20 when you assault a police officer in the groin REPEATEDLY yea your going down.
I understand the diffrence between abuse and discipline but when you cant even spank you kids on the butt once or twice to get them to calm down then they have no fear of punishment and therefore no respect for the law. That may seem likea huge leap of logic but hear me out.
First when I was growing up I was spanked not often but I was spanked hard when the need to do so arose, thus I learned if you mess up there will be consiquences. Yes I got paddled in school as well, didnt do your homework 3 swats and then be made to do it during recess or lunch. Get mouthy on the bus get three to 5 swats. Fighting with another student, the one that started it got 10 the other guy got 5. Thus people are taught from a young age that improper behavior brings punishment, kids these days dont have that so they are more out of control than ever. In my opinion.

That reminds me of a (sober!) customer last year who called the cops because I couldn't change the 100€ bill he wanted to pay for a can of pasta. (It was a busy night with many customers paying with 50€ or 100€ bills and I just had not enough change left). Oh - I live in Germany and work nightshift at a gas station.
edit: at least he didn't dial 110 (the equivalence of 911 in germany) but the number of the local police station.

In other countries, children of 4 already have been in school for 2 years.
If this is sarcasm, well done sir, my humor applauds you (even if my nasal passages do not, accursed Mountain Dew!).
If it is not... What.
I'm always serious. Dead serious. I have to, in my job. Even if I were known to joke, I would never joke about something as serious as this.
You might not have heard about our "wonder children" who go to school at the age of two, but that's because we usually never talk about it. We don't think of them as wonder children. It's normal.
Sure, some kids are not ready to go to school at the age of two, but we leave those to the wolves - which run around on the streets here, you know.

The mother should be shot in the head for telling a cop to stun her kid.
The cop should be shot in the head for doing it.
You should be shot in the head for supporting this behaviour.
Seriously. Someone better be getting three bullets right now.
She's a f%@+ing ten-year-old kid. If anyone should be stunned, it's the mother for being unable to raise her child properly. And the cop. What piece-of-crab cob can't subdue a ten-year-old girl without resorting to a stun gun?

Makes sense. Doesn't matter that the service offered is complete rubbish. It was promised, but not rendered, so you get your money back.
Sometimes the laws make sense.

I don't feel it was inflamatory, yet I had to point out that some do not agree with you. I have a slightly different perspective. If you wish me to I would be happy to share but as you said this thread is not perhaps the best place for it.
Nature and Nuture have been debated for a couple of hundred years now though so I doubt we will come to a conclusion.

I would never want my kids in school at two. Kids at two should be with their parents.
That said, I despise the public school system in general.

The FBI investigated the possibility of terrorist attacks during Micheal Jackson's trial. WTF?
Large public gathering, I would suppose. Same reason they investigate possibility of terrorist attacks during televised sporting events. Maximum impact.

Apparently, some people call 911 whenever they don't get what they want.

I don't know if I would have asked about the reward.
I probably would have said that was overkill as well. But I think it did the intended job... if a bit too much so, the police do have better things to do.
I'm torn between "Finally, a parent willing to teach kids the hard lessons even if it has to be done the hard way" and "this was kind of a waste of the officers' time".

I can see your dilema orthos but I am of the mindset that the kid will ALWAYS remeber herself being in the back of that police car and the fact her mother turned her in will make sure she knows that crime doesn't pay. If your own mother turns you in then you messed up bad. I think that child wont steal again and will be very hesitant to break any laws in the future, society win/win.
