That was indeed part of my thinking, although I freely admit I was inspired by that sort of trap in various books and D&D adventurers (particulary the anchors in the Journeys of McGill Feighan, by Kevin O'Donnell Jr.) I figure the Pathfinders use it to keep the private portions of the Grand Lodge off-limits to smart-alec adventurers, hence the connection to the Society.
But if it finds use in your dungeons as a counter to scry-and-fry, it is doing its job as designed.
