So people have their book already
And mine hasn't even been shipped yet, which means I'll probably get it several days late, maybe more than a week.
But the big point is: People already have the book, are already spilling the beans.
So the only reason for not making this PDF available to the rest of us as soon as it is ready has gone.
Now, it makes sense to make it available soon, as this will mean that people aren't treated even more unfairly than they have to be due to the facts that cannot be changed any more.
Not doing it is torture.

Hands Kae Yoss some cheese.
They promised the release for Thursday, to coincide with the start of GenCon. Waiting until the promised date is not torture. And, no I don't have my copy either. :)
The fact that Paizo underestimated the speed at which the Postal Service would complete some deliveries does not change that.
The fact that a few people, who got their copies earlier then they should have, are "spilling the beans" is not Paizo's fault. If anyone is guilty of torture, perhaps it is these posters who are leaking details of the RPG rules. ;P

Besides, a 567 page book is about 5 times the size of a normal PFAP (which was 19 and 23.5 MB each).
So, the PFRPG is approx 45-117 MB. Don't forget, there's two files that you'll have the opportunity to download. The APs already slow down the site. Now, think about 5x the download!
I think that they know what they're doing ; )
USPS usually takes 9 days for delivery to Sioux Falls, SD, and that's a pretty reliable date range. They said somewhere that they are shipping based on the time that the Post Office says it normally takes (even though they said in the email that it was going out on Tuesday). This in mind, they may have already shipped it.
Any way you look at it, it'll be here in one form or another on the 13th.

They said shipping BY tuesday, not ON tuesday on my notice.
what did they say they would do that they didnt actually do?

They are still polishing off the PDF to make it not just some 500+ page PDF, but a "smart" pdf that is nice to read and easy to use.
Let's give them until the official deadline so that they can deliver us the product they want to. I'd rather have a good product on time than a rushed & mediocre project ahead of schedule.
I trust Paizo. I love them and want to give them hugs (or beer), sadly, they are too far away for hugs and PA does NOT like me shipping beer.
My book showed up yesterday!

My order is announced to ship tuesday.
Questions for the Paizo customer support :
Is there a way to change the shipping method in time before tuesday ?
Where can i see the rates and delays of each shipping options ?
If you've already gotten your notice, I would say highly unlikely that you could change the shipping now, it's already packed and in the pallet to go, or is already out the door to the Postal Service.
But at the very top of the forums is a section for CS questions, you can post there with your order number, and will get an answer as fast as someone is inhouse to see it.

As a matter of fact, i don't really want to change my order.I am fine with waiting for a few days to get the book.
Surely i am impatient, but not to the point to pay 20 or 30 bucks extra to get it a bit earlier, especially considering the lack of reliability of US post services.
I was actually using my own example as a generic case, if someone was wondering the same thing.

Thought I saw a post from Vic elsewhere on the boards that he "guessed" the file would be ~70-80MB.

Now that I read that, my math sucks! 19 x 5 = 95. Even so, it's a beefy file. The 117 was for the multiple file format. The 95 is single file.
Of course, the APs look like they have more graphics per 100 pages than the PFRPG (based on the flip through video). So, 70-80 sounds about right.

Note that dropping extra money for faster shipment would only mean your shipment gets bumped and shipped later.
And note that I did pay 20 bucks extra because of the promise that they would send international stuff first. Looks like I'll pay more for nothing (except to make sure that more of the money goes to Paizo instead of Amazon and distributors).

I've suffered this before, from Giant in the Playground and Guardians of Order and, Trust me Kae i haven't had my email yet and i'm UK based, i see no point in getting this upset about it.
Paizo is a little company trying to do a massive thing and they are bound to make mistakes. Yes i want my PDF but its not ready. I'd rather wait until it was and then get it, even if my book didn't turn up for a couple of weeks after.
They are working all the hours they can and thats to be commended, even if they did get it wrong or the US postal service outdid itself!!

Verstanden, KaeYoss, and agreed.
I was talking for myself, not for others.I am not telling other paizonians to take it easy or to be patient. Hype is hype, and i understand many can be impatient and anxious to receive their order.
About the international shipping, i think that Paizo meant that they would try for non-US customers to get their stuff approximately at the same time than the american ones. I am not paraphrasing them, i just assume that was their intention.
BryonD
Happy not to complain about Paizo fixing typos and adding links to the PDF's as well as just about breaking their backs to make sure as many people as possible got their books by the 13th.
I agree.
I'm all for them letting subscribers get it the second it is ready.
But, they announced the 13th, so it is their call and that is cool.
But most important of all, they said it wasn't ready.

I agree
I suspect those who have their books went with normal shipping ... Their books shipped early because it can take much longer to arrive ... but its a crap shoot, and they just happened to sail through the mail.
Those that spent more money on higher end shipping are much more likely to get it EXACTLY on Aug. 13th (in the USA).
This is a case where it probably would have been better to save the money.

I, for one, wuld rather wait a few days longer and get a higher quality product. By the same token we should all remember that Paizo, despite its huge position in the industry, is still a comparatively small shop. Having experience with the publishing industry I am impressed with their achievements and am willing to cut them some slack.
I also refer readers of this thread to the aforementioned impact of massive downloads on their system. I'd rather have their IT ready for it so we don't see the servers crashing constantly while everyone mobs the net for their Pathfinder goodness.
Bravo Paizo, across the board.
3.5 Thrives!

Wasn't it explained once that because of the way their software is set up they can't easily separate out subscribers and give them their PDFs? I thought that this is why every month some people receive their physical subscriptions before other people even get their downloads. I think that however their database has been set up precludes this sort of thing, doesn't it?
(Full disclosure: I'm international and haven't been shipped either.)

Kinda like Delta Green d20. Over two years when I found out about it.

It's not D&D related. It's an open source linux handheld designed for emulation and hombrew development. Looks awesome but I've been following it for two years and the thing still isn't out yet. Search for OpenPandora if you want to check it out but don't get too excited until they actually finish it.

Well, only a part of it is because of the situation itself. Most of it is about the insults that were thrown at me.
Gary London
no one should be expected to suffer insults on a public forum.
This is going to be an awesome product and IMHO Paizo staff work, long, hard hours to give us the BEST support and gaming products money can buy. If it takes a little longer enjoy the trepidation of the wait and if it takes a while longer it'll be worth it in the end.

KaeYoss, I cannot understand how you can perceive these remarks as insults directed at you.
I am in Germany too, and it seems my copy, too, probably won't arrive until after the next weekend. Yes, they said they'd try to get it done, but i didn't work out.
I can understand that you are unhappy, and I'm not pleased with it as well. But these things happen. Get over it.
You have stated your opinion now many times on multiple threads. We know you think it sucks, but repeating over and over again that you're annoyed by this isn't going to change anything, and I would not blame Paizo for not looking upon that too favorably.
So please, give it a rest. for now. Thank you.

To wit:
Hands Kae Yoss some cheese. Here have some whine to go with that cheese...
and if you need a shoulder to cry on... find a horny tree or something
no reason to have baby temper tantrums. Be a man and suck it up.
That's just an excerpt. I don't necessarily file that under "friendly advice"

Kae, have you gotten the e-mail yet saying your shipment will ship by the 11th and such giving you access to the PDFs of your other subscription items?
KaeYoss
but repeating over and over again that you're annoyed by this isn't going to change anything
I did not repeat it over and over again. I've been defending myself against a torrent of insults directed at me.
I would not blame Paizo for not looking upon that too favorably.
Considering that people are breaking the board rules here, I sure hope Paizo isn't looking at that favourably.
Unless you think they will reprimand me for defending myself. I doubt they'll do that. They don't insult customers as a rule.

Here's an idea... how about NO ONE COMPLAINS about shipping dates or complains that someone else called them a bad name or teased them. No one wants anyone to cry so let's all just let this silly nonsense go. We'll all get our books when we get them and no amount of crying and whining about it, or complaining about people crying and whining about it, or pointing fingers at people who are pointing fingers at you, will make the book get there any faster.
Case closed, everyone just move on? Fair enough?
Sheesh.

No more crying over spilled $30 down the toilet.
