The Exchange

Just wondering when the lottery results will be posted. If I am correct, I will need some time to whip out a story before June 1st Deadline.

The Exchange

Does anyone know what they got? I have not found anything that tells me what events I will be in. Wondering if I didn't get any. If you know anything about "How they will post everyone", let me know.

I've seen no notice that we will find out any time before 2 p.m. PST on Friday.

I don't see any indication on the events page either, so I'm guessing the results have not been posted.

Also eagerly awaiting the news...

We haven't run the lottery yet. There's a small chance we might post lottery results early, but the current plan is to have them go live when the first-come, first-served open registration begins Friday at 2 p.m. Pacific time.

That makes sense for games and seminars, but for events involving participants submitting writing samples like the fiction and PFS scenario workshops, notification would be nice as early as possible. (I say this hoping I get into one of them, but would have the same opinion even if I don't win the lottery for these.)

It might just be me, but that sounds a little chaotic. You might have several hundred people trying to rapidly check what events they already have in case they need to sign up for new events at the same time. If you post the results early, participants will know whether it's worth joining the scramble or not.

I would also like to have a bit more of a heads up as to what I managed to get into. Aside from the time constraints for those the writing workshop, it would help with organizing open gaming times. Also, if one doesn't need to hop into the fray of the first come first serve, the sooner it's known the better.

The Exchange

Wow, that gives me a weekend to write a story that will be edited for mistakes. No doubt, there will be mistakes there.

While I echo the concerns mentioned above, it actually occurs to me that my method of ranking probably exhausted absolutely every event I would wish to attend.

As the lottery runs for each day until *no* results were added, even if I was the only person with picks remaining open, it would run until all of mine were exhausted.

So, while I'm intensely curious, I don't think there will be any open spots that I'll have an interest in, unless people drop ones they already had.

My other concern is that the first-come, first-serve sign ups come at 5pm EST when I am usually on the road home to pick up the kids. If I knew in advance that my events looked reasonable, I wouldn't bother trying to get online at that time. But I'd really like to get into some seminars if I ended up getting any duplicate Pathfinder events or open slots.

Lottery results are now visible. Go to the events page and click the "show my schedule" button (below the instructions) to see what you got.

You totally rock Gary (and not just 'cause I got a good pick!)

I think I got draw 250 for all three days. In any case, I'm looking forward to everything and hoping there are some good spots open tomorrow evening for the free for all.

Well, I wasn't lucky enough to get into any of the PFRPG games, but hey...I still get to play Cthulhu, run a monster in an arena battle, and get slaughtered in Paizo fight club. Add in the seminars and the open games, and it sounds like a fun weekend.

Apparently my buddy and I didn't get into anything. The only thing showing on my scheduled events is the banquet on Saturday. Much sadness ensues. :-(

Seems that running each day separately is what did this. Out of 250 possible ticket holders, there just weren't enough events, and all it would take would to be in the bottom half of each day's draw to be left out of stuff entirely. Did you have a lot of things marked 1 or 0?

Grand Lodge

Is it possible for GM's to see what sort of numbers they have registered? I have an event for 20 people.... oy, what did I do that for?

Scarab Sages

Well... this might help explain some things to people.
We have 250 attendees (assuming it sold out).

Fri 12-4 slot there are 116 openings
Sat 8-12 slot there are 102 openings
Sat 1-5 slot there are 115 openings
Sun 8-12 slot there are 108 openings

Which means that over 50% of the people will not be in a game then. The odds of not getting into something is higher than getting in, especially with the rating system figured into it.
(No, I'm not actually going to do the stats on that.) :]
Also keep in mind that the 36 people PFS games are in those slots also, which you cannot play in again. So if you get into one of those your choices go down by 36.

I am happy that I was lucky enough to get into the Fight Club slot.

Sorry dire elf, If you care for an open game on friday morning, I have two slots open for my Terminator True20 game, you and your buddy are welcome to join.

The lesson here would be to make more events next year so that a higher percentage of people can get into something in each block.

You're not taking into account that volunteers don't play in those events they are helping with, leaving spots open for others, but yeah, more events is the real solution.

There are still the same number of spots, just less people vying for them.

There's only so many events that we can organize--PAIZOCON relies on the attendees to run events as well. That said, for the second year of a small show, we had a LOT of events, seminars, games, and open gaming. There'll be plenty for folks to do.

Dark Archive

I will be bringing several older Pathfinder Society Scenarios with me. If you didn't get into anything and want me to run stuff for you, just let me know. After hours, before hours, whatever. I'll run a game at four in the morning if someone needs me to.

I'm sure I'm not alone--there will be lots of folks willing to run stuff that is not on the official schedule.

As will I. I've played almost everything so far and run most of them at least once. So I can do some after hours GMing too, if people need it.

Well, actually over 85% of people could have gotten into a game on Saturday, if everyone had ranked the games highest.

Since the rankings were only relative to the individual, they don't have much impact on who gets a choice, just when you get your first choice, what will it be. I personally ranked almost every game higher than almost everything else, so that if there were a game open, I'd get that (of the two slots I had open to play in that is). Then I just hoped some seminars, etc., would be open the second time around.

More events would help, but that would mean more people needing to run things instead of playing. I guess we'll see what's still open shortly. I think everyone will have a blast, regardless of whether they make it into an official game or not. Plus I'm sure some people will miss/sleep-in - be on the backup lists :)

Well I just looked, there are *lots* of games and a few events left open - I think everyone will have a chance to play, no problem.

Including the Yetisburg opening I just dropped out of for "getting a chance to eat" reasons...

How and where are you seeing this info? When I go to the event page it just lists the events.

The open event sign-up is open currently by error. It will close shortly. Any changes made to that system before Monday won't actually change.

But the Yetis need a chance to eat too :(

Scarab Sages

Well, I'll look forward to seeing what's available when the open gaming schedule goes up Monday.

And being envious of my friends who got into the stuff I wanted. ;-)
