I had a blast at this year's mix challenge, and lament the fact that I was sick last year and missed it. Lots of great new music (Erik--I can't remember the name of your selection. Please throw it on here if you get a chance) and lots of great new friends. Tim's selection was great, as was the Murder By Death song. Also--don't forget Amon Amarth and Clutch. Both are great bands that I have been a fan of for years! If anybody wants to hear some more Clutch, I recommend "A Shogun Named Marcus." Great song with an awesome groove and a humorous story besides.
If anyone gets the chance to listen to Baroness a bit more, I am eager to hear your opinions!

That was the one. Not a bad track, Dane, though not exactly my cup of tea ... or beer as the case may be.
I won't even ask for additional feedback on my track ... not a big bluegrass crowd out there in Seattle I guess. ;)
No worries though, next year ... REGGAETON!!! or something
CJ, what was the name of the band you brought in? I've been wracking my brain and cannot remember it. We really do need to start the Music thread ...

Apology in advance. Sorry that last year turned into a party instead of a music listening session. I will not crash my beer into your session this year guys. That was, way out of hand "talking over the music loud." Hopefully no beer kegs will end up at your door either. Let's keep this a little more cerebral this year.

Speaking of which, is this on again for this year? Erik (with a "K") Mona, what say you?

It was fun! I got to hear a interesting selection of music mostly in the genre of hard rock. Tim's selection was the clear winner.
@Zuxius - Were you the drunk guy who was rather shakily holding his lit pipe (or was it a lit cigar?) so that I had to keep moving for fear my very flamable hair would get hot ash dumped on it? That is the only bad part I remembered. It made me nervous as I didn't know how drunk you were and whether you could handle your smokes well. I didn't notice the talking so much as that pipe.
For those of you who partied that night and didn't show up to my game the next morning, shame on you. :P Though the game was delayed in part because the room was such a mess that the cleaning staff was in a panic to get it cleaned and in a state because they were late. The nice lady appologized to me and told me the people who used it the night before were a very dirty group. So perhaps this year you all should find some way to clean after yourselves just a bit?
Be courteous to the staff. It is amazing how much they appreciate it.

No, Zuxius was the guy with specs who had all the yummy home brew ... mmmm ... Zuxius' home brew ....

You saw him? I thought it was just me. That was my evil alter ego twin brother. He's watching me. I'm sure of it.

I'm really wavering on doing this again this year.
It was SO FUN the first year, but last year we hardly even talked about the music and people seemed more interested in getting trashed, playing card games, and talking loudly.
I felt like a DJ, which was kind of cool, but that banquet already wipes me out and staying up until 2:00 to make sure other people have good music to listen to while they are loud and drunk does not strike me as the most productive use of my time at Paizo Con.
I dunno.

Could make it an actual event ... put a cap of 10-15 folks, require [x] number of songs from participants (if more than 1 song, limit songs to the first minute unless folks vote it to play through) and no card games or other activities during the event; it is about the music after all.
Alcohol was present the first go 'round as well (just whatever folks brought with them, no keg, which, while tasty, was well past the realm of overkill last year), but the focus was the music and checking out new sounds two years ago.
The big difference for the first year, while an open event, was that those of us who attended were there to bounce the tunes around, but last year it did turn into more of an after hours party partly due to folks from the first go 'round saying how much fun it was ...
Just some thoughts, take them or leave them as is fitting. But I do think this should continue as an ongoing tradition; it allows folks tp share more common ground than just the games after all and can lead to finding some great sounds that otherwise may have gone unnoticed by some attendees.

I agree with Zylphryx's comments and understand Erik's dilemma.
The event should be about the music rather than "the drinking" or whatever else was going on.
I have some ideas on how we could get it back to its roots -- but I'm not sure if they are too draconian.
1. Your song/tune is your ticket. No tunes -- no entry. (Might be too extreme.)
2. Open containers only -- no bottles, no kegs, no fifth's of whatever. I think a limited number of pitchers would be okay (a pitcher is open). But if you want to get your drink on -- go somewhere else.
3. Remove all tables except the one at the front.
These are off the top of my head.
It is a tough call. I would be bummed if it didn't happen as I've been heavily contemplating my entry. It might also be time for someone else to take up the DJ Whispering Tyrant mantle.

Again Erik, I'm sorry about that.
This year will be like the first year. Interaction and enjoying the music is what the event should have been about. Admittedly, the thing got hijacked.
We can run it low key this year. I'll just bring a small box with ice and a couple beers for anyone that wants it.
