Is Ethelbert there? Oh, Nimora will be so happy to see him :) She's starting to feel a little lonely and insecure. Don't know why. I mean, what could be intimidating about a big palace? ;)

Careful. With Ethelbert comes your momma and your bro. ;)

Kaelar will be there soon as morale back-up.

Ooooooh. *wince* Nothing like family when you're emotionally vulnerable. ;)

A few days after she calls, Kaelar enters the underwater city, remembering what happened last time. He does his best to be polite and asks where Nimora might be.

Greeted by one of the beleaguered administrators at the portal Kaelar is told that Nimora is at the Palace. Not seeing his name on the list, the clerk asks if he needs a message sent or directions or the many crowded inns.

Ethelbert swims in after a few days

::Lady Nimora, I had to find you. Your mother is planning some huge wedding, and your soon-to-be inlaws are insufferable!::

"A message will do fine, kind sir. Thank you."

"What?! But I thought that...Telestial said...Oh, this is a right mess. I am so very glad to see you Ethelbert. I feel like a minnow in a pod of dolphins here. I'm never quite sure what I'm doing. And now I have to straighten out this whole mess with my mother....They're really that insufferable?"

Ethelbert shudders, bubbles rising from his tentacles

::She made me stay in the barracuda pen! Can you imagine? As if I was your pet. When I tried to tell her I was a graduate of the Blackreef Academy she swam away! She pretended she couldn't understand me!::

He twitches

::And that Blurghoot and his three brothers! They made their barracudas chase me all about the whole reef!::

"They did what?! Oh, she better hope I find an honorable way out of this marriage. Because if I don't the alliance isn't going to last long since I'll likely kill him within the week."

"I'm so sorry you've been having such a difficult time, Ethelbert. My family had no right to treat you like that. I'm sure that no one will mind if you stay in my suite here. There's certainly enough room," she said with a bemused shake of her head. "It's nearly as big as my family's villa."

"Certainly."

The clerk retrieves a small shell from his net. Holding it btwn his two webbed hands he speaks into it

"Please deliver a message to Lady Nimora Olbereth stating that a gentleman by the name of Kaelar is at the portal, and wishes to speak with her."

Turning back to Kaelar "She should receive the message soon."

Relieved that her message hasn't been faked so far, Kaelar smiles and hand the sea-elf a small piece of red ice that has been ornately carved.

"A small token of gratitude, don't let it near... hm, not sure that even exists underwater, nevermind." Kaelar moves to a out-of-the-way place and waits for Nimora's reply.

Who can understand the twisted workings of Melusine's mind? :) (Plus, I think Patrick missed that bit about the invitations.)

When Kaelar's message is brought to her, Nimora will ask if it's alright for him to come to the palace to see her or if she needs to go to see him. She's still getting the hang of this royal court thing, and has yet to master protocol. In fact, after spending her childhood trying to avoid politics of any kind she has been taking a crash course in it lately hoping to gain some understanding that will keep her from giving mortal offense to someone important.

Yup I shure did. We can assume ol' Ethelbert skedaddled before the invitation came

"Certainly. Shall we send a carriage for the young man? Would you like to go along?"

"If he is a friend of our our soon-to-be new king, he is more than welcome to stay at the palace as well."

A carriage and Manta Ray escort is provided.

As a surface elf I'll let the young comment slide. ;p

Nimora is still uncomfortable with riding in a carriage through the city. It feels so awkward, like everyone is staring at her. So she decides to wait at the palace while the carriage is sent for Kaelar. Besides, she wouldn't want to leave Ethelbert all alone, and he is much too big to ride in a carriage.

A royal cariage arrives at the portal for Kaelar. It will take the same slow tour over the city, showcasing the best parts, finally arriving at the palace. Kaelar is escorted to Nimora's rooms, and offered his own, much smaller room with a much smaller antechamber.

The chamberlain sighs softly, and signals for more lobsters for Nimora's hungry friend.

lol:)

She gives him a sympathetic look and a shrug. After all, she's spent enough time catching lobsters for Ethelbert herself to understand what an undertaking it can be to feed the part-kraken.

"This is a delightful city, if I may say so. It equals(if not exceeds) the beauty of the elven cities on land. I am grateful to be able to see it." When he arrives at Nimora's room, he knocks lightly as his robes shimmer and become quite appropriate for the event be prepared for(different hues of blue with silver trim).

Nimora jumps up to answer the door and blushes as the servants once more rolled their eyes and hurried to beat her to the task. She smiles brightly when she sees Kaelar. She is dressed in a coral color dress and has a waterlily pinned in her hair.
"Kaelar, I am so glad to see you. I've been more than a little lost in the seaweed, as it were. I'm not really used to the intricacies of a royal court."

"Well, that aside, I must say that 'water' colors suit you perfectly. This is a wonderful city, don't you agree?" He takes a deep 'breath' and looks at a window to watch a school of brightly colored fish swim past. "Of course I could be biased. How have you been since the " he looks at the others in the room, "day at the Carnival?"

"It is a beautiful city," she agrees enthusiastically, "and thank you for the compliment."

She turns to the servants.
"Would you mind very much giving me some privacy please to speak with my friends? Thank you."
After they leave, she waves towards one of the coral couches. "Please, sit. I am well enough. I spent a couple of days sleeping in the aquarium at the Sanctum of the Sun. Apparently the healing magics in the water there felt I needed it. I've been here since. Mirathan's mother has been most gracious and welcoming. She's given me these rooms and a whole new wardrobe, and she keeps me informed of Mirathan's condition. He is improving every day. He still does not wish to see me, and I am doing my best to learn patience and give him as much space as he needs to recover. Perhaps he will be more willing to see you. I hope so. I would welcome any news of him that I can get," she adds with a sad smile.

Edit: The servants peek at the surface elf as they leave.

"I'd be more than glad to help in anyway I can." He notices the servents peeking at him from the corner of his eye and whispers to Nimora, "Either those kind ladies haven't seen a forest elf before or I'm ruggedly handsome, or both." He turns to the servents and gives them a sly wink.

Really hoping they are ladies at this point. Anyway, I have to loff off for the night. 'See' you tommorrow.

"Is this a private reunion?", a smiling Telestial inquires.

Nimora hides her laughter behind her hand. "I hadn't realized you were such a ladies' man, Kaelar. I am sure that there are several of them who would be happy to satisfy their curiosity on the subject of surface elves," she added with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes.

"Only in the sense of not wishing to speak in front of all the servants. You are of course welcome to join us. You remember Kaelar, of course."

"I am honored to have fought at your sides."

"You may all see him if you wish. There is a small gathering in the banquet hall. The young king refuses to use the throne room until the funeral."

the knight pauses

"He blames himself for not being there when his father was struck down. He tries to hide this, but I have known him for a long time."

"I would like that very much if you're sure he wouldn't mind," she says quietly. Her hands are clasped together so tightly that her knuckles are white.

"Feelings of excessive personal responsibility are a common problem around here," she adds with a sigh. "I think it will be very difficult for him to forgive himself for not being in two places at once."

The knight gives them time to prepare then escorts them to the banquet hall. On the way he describes some of the beings attending, and the gathering's purpose. It is a chance for the king to garner support from visitors and thank certain high-ranking officials for their efforts in the rebuilding. Tomorrow will be too busy with the ceremonies.

Nimora seems very nervous, and stays close to Ethelbert for moral support.

Telestial bypasses the hall's main entrance, and the group enters fairly close to Mirathan while he speaks to a small group.

Nimora has never been very good at hiding her emotions, and anyone watching her face would have little doubt about her feelings for Mirathan. She watches him closely, happy to see him looking so well.

"Archmage, pls give our thanks to your whole academy. Without them our forces would have been overrun. Then to turn around and aid the clean up and restorations..."

Mirathan notices the new arrivals. His mouth hangs open mid-sentence. He looks straight at Nimora.

"You...

...you are...

...so beautiful."

as the words leave his mouth he blushes and studies his feet intently. The mages turn to stare at the woman that has struck their young king speechless.

Nimora can barely breathe. Not only did he not cringe away from her, he actually called her beautiful. She surreptitiously pinched herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming. She really hoped that this could last.

"I - Thank you, Mirathan. I am so happy to see you again." She blushed. She knew she sounded like an idiot, but for some reason her brain wasn't really functioning clearly.

The queen sweeps in to the rescue

"Gentle mages, pls forgive these two. This is the 1st time they have been able to speak since their own battle with the Black. Have you not heard the story? Pls allow me..."

she deftly leads the mages away from the two blushing, fumbling young ones
