On the 398 th day he rested ... and had a beer.

It's been a long road since this very fateful announcement and Jason and the team may
most deservedly sip from Cayden Cailean’s very cup.

1. CONGRATULATIONS!
2. HUZZAH!!
3. Now get back to work slacker

; )

3.a. And thank you !

The Exchange

Yep congrats and thank you. Cannot wait 'til it comes out.

Congratulations, Jason! Glad I could be here to witness the birth of your 576-page word-child! (398 days is a long time to be in labor!)

Is that an American beer ? Cause you know what does American beer and making love in a canoe have in common... ;)

No Czech beers in the ranking = epic fail. :)

Ooh! Ooh!

Is it too late to suggest a new rule-change?

Czechvar ftw!

Congrats to Paizo, and especially Jason, on getting this done. The only real problem seems to be that because Jason's 9 feet tall he's created a size L book! :)

Although Belgian beers make a good showing (as might be expected, though perhaps a bit better than some might expect), the fact that there are no Czech beers, the best English beer is at #68, and the best German beer is at #80 make these results a little unexpected!

The Exchange

And to think, this is the book that started a new dynasty in RPG gaming. History has been made at Paizo. The world will never be the same, nor would we want it that way.

Congrats everyone. Can't wait to see this book spread its wings and fly off into gaming legend.

We lucky few who witnessed it.

"What are you kids playing? Pathfinder without holographic enhancements? Back to basics, huh?"

"Grampa, holographic game aids are out of the market by almost two decades. Our GM's is at the Saturn station, and he has a ticket at the telepathic array facility: he's broadcasting the game in the whole solar system."

"Oh. You know, I was there on the netboards when Pathfinder was being announced..."

"Yeah yeah, we heard that like a million times... don't listen to him guys, he still uses plastic dice and recycled-card for the character stat-sheet... and they talk face to face to tell what's going on..."

Only American beers!?
I'm from Denmark and we have great beers...

though I must admit that some American beer isn't too shabby ;-)

Let's break out the party decoration and the vodka-flavoured ice-cream (it's warm outside)!

Yeah, those 32 guys really knew what they were doing. How many people work at Three Floyds Brewing Company? Let me guess: 32? :D

The fact that this is some obscure website makes the results irrelevant. :P

On unrelated news: A poll at kaeyoss.com showed the not-very-surprising result that Kae'Yoss is the greatest lover in the world!

With "too shabby", you mean it doesn't count as groundwater contamination? :D

I think we need to get together and ship a crate of select Euro beers (English, Danish, German, Czech, Dutch, Polish...) to Paizo offices just to show the boys and girls what are they missing !

Thing is, beer doesn't travel too well.
But you're right, the unwashed masses need education, not scorn... (yes, KaaYoss, be good).

By the way, why is that Pathfinder talk tends to end up as beer talk...?

Man, you guys are making me hungry for breakfast...

Cheers, Jason! Cheers, entire staff!

You want to give them a taste of what they're missing, forcing them to go back to the dishwater they have to do with? And you call me cruel?

That's like magically granting a blind man the power of sight for one day and sending him to a beauty pageant.

Good things best enjoyed with good friends.

GRU wrote:

Because of Cayden Cailean?

Or is it the other way round?

OT WARNING:

Not really. I have tasted around 40 of the 100 beers on that list and there's not any Czech or German beer that holds a candle to any of them. I have also tasted the English beer on the list, and it is very, very good. However, I would probably not rate the individual beers according to that list, but that's a matter of personal taste.

Oh, and by the way... yes I'm a beer geek as well ;)

By the way, if we are to continue the beer discussion, we should probably do so on the Off-Topic board.

There are a couple of old beer threads...I think they got pretty big. And there's always spoilerfication.

Congratulations on the accomplishment - looking forward to receiving the finished product in the mail!

Now about the beer debate, I think KaeYoss may be only familiar with mass-produced American beer, which is for the most part not very good (to put it mildly). The craft beer movement over the past few decades has done much to improve the state of beer in the US. If any American beers are making it overseas, they are most likely the mass-produced watery types - not the lovingly crafted high-quality ales and lagers from smaller breweries.

Actually,

Spoiler:
there's a lot of american craft beers coming to Sweden and Denmark, it's their biggest market outside of US. Since I live in southern Sweden, close to Denmark, this means that I have to good fortune to have access to a lot of american craft beers that may not be available elsewere in Europe.

Agreed, I find that most Europeans have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to American beer. They think everyone drinks Bud and Miller and they have never tasted any of the stuff done by smaller companies and microbrews.

Oh and congrats on the book being done!

The "mass market" American brewing companies (Anheiser-Busch, Miller, Coors) aren't even owned by Americans anymore. The biggest American brewer left is Samuel Adams, and those guys make a damned fine brew, if you ask me. Winter Lager, Cream Stout, or their classic "sounds really weird but tastes way better than you'd think" variety, Cherry Wheat.

And now we can start the 101 day countdown until August 13th. 101 days till the Behemoth will arrive.

/agreed.

Although the proximity of the words "american" and "beer" in the same sentence usually makes me laugh, i would make an exception for Samuel Adams brews.
Definitely not the nectar of the gods, but still decent for mortals.

On topic : Well, good job, Jason. Good job.

Did you ever drink any proper German or Czech beer? More precisely, since we're all bashing the Europeans for making gross assumptions, did you drink all German or Czech beers? :P

Indeed, the Dunkel and Schwarzbier are great. Among many others...

Thanks everyone,

This book has indeed been long in the making and it is a relief to finally be finished. As for the beer in this picture, it is indeed an american beer, called Moose Drool. It is actually rather good, and I have a lot of experience with German and English beers (but not too much on the Czech beers :-(

I tend to avoid the cheap macro-brews to be honest.. those days (aka college) are long gone.

For he today that rolls his dice with me

Shall forever be my brother; be he never so vile,

This day shall gentle his condition;

And fellow geeks now on the WotC boards

Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,

And hold their manhood’s cheap whiles any speaks

That gamed with us upon Paizo's day !

How can she make such a statement ignorant of the facts? She'd have to do a direct comparison, you know.

But since that is hardly appropriate, we'll just have to settle for "she doesn't know what she's talking about, I'm still right."

Ha ha, that is so true! (But, if he'd been blind since birth, one day of having the power of sight would probably be wasted on him- )

Because of Cayden Cailean?

Always blame someone else...

or, always give credit to someone else, Cayden is pretty cool.

Yes, my friends and I do- my mother and girlfriend doesn't. ( but Google's a bit off, as its really "Down with it and the rest in THE hair!" The meaning is that you'd better drain the glass properly, as you'll have to tip it over your head after the toast.

Mostly it's an "out with the boys" sort of thing...
