Olman Deities and cleric PCs

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Was there ever any information posted/printed for characters who wanted to worship Olman deities? What I'd like to see is names, alignments, portfolios, domains, and a brief description and summary about the god.

Thanks in advance,

The Exchange

I'm pretty sure it was in one of the Dragon magazines "Savage Tidings" articles, but I don't have them in front of me here @ work to verify.

If I were to make a religious Olman/Maztican PC though, I would think the Shaman class (from Complete Divine) to be more appropriate, but that's just a personal preference. There's certainly no reason you can't make a cleric.

I glanced thru what I have and I found no such information. There are plenty of references to the god of this or that, Tlaloc = god of water for example, but nothing more specific. The articles mention and seem to imply that the Olmans now worship totems instead of the deities. I'm not sure the implications of this for a pc who wants to play a cleric.

An official list of Greyhawk deities and their details (from Living Greyhawk) is available here.

Olman dieties include:
Camazotz/Zotzilaha
Chitza-Atlan
Hurakon
Mictlantecuhtli
Quetzalcoatl
Tezcatlipoca/Apocatequil
Tlatoc
Tlazoteotl

Also check the Class Acts Divine articles. There were at least 3 maybe 4 articles that had at least 2 major deities each of the Aztec(?) pantheon. I don't recall the exact issues of Dragon though.

Thank you, I downloaded the zip.

Were they 3.0 or 3.5 articles?

I believe some of the Olman deities were borrowed from the real-world Aztec pantheon whole cloth, which means you should be able to find some background on them in Wikipedia or a print encyclopedia or book about Mesoamerican religious traditions. The ones I recognize are Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, Tezcatlipoca, and Tlazolteotl. Wiki will probably give you enough info to come up with alignments, portfolios, domains, and a holy symbol.

IIRC, the old TSR publication Scarlet Brotherhood had a page or two of info on this topic. Unfortunately, it's too late to get it except through e-bay. I'll look at my PDF when I have time and see if I can extract some info for you.

Some of the deities also appeared in the 1e AD&D Deities and Demigods under the Aztec pantheon.

I think I might have this... I traded away most of my other old stuff for this copy with the Erol Otus illustrated Cthulhu Mythos. Priceless.

You know what would be super cool? If you could get access to those old out-of-print titles on, say, downloadable PDF format or something... that'd be awesome.

=P

3.5 They were released during the path. Dragon 352, 354, 356, and 358 have the articles.

I see what you did there.

You left out zotzilaha O:)

Interesting related note.

One of my characters took leadership as a bard phanaton. His cohort is his mate and a cleric. I am not too particular about using specific gods (knee-jerk to gaming-is-of-the-devil in the 80's). He chose heal and travel as domains. I found it quite serendipitous that the party walked into (oops this should be in a

Spoiler:
the temple of the jaguar and found a 'deity' of the Rakastas: a coutl.
As the phanatons had traded once upon time with the these people, it would make sense that she be a cleric of the same. I hope the player works that into the back-story.

You missed where I included zotzilaha O:)

But as long as we're on the subject, here's some trivia:
In "Gods, Demigods and Heroes" (i.e. pre-AD&D) the Bat God was mistakenly called "Tezcat" (short for Tezcatlipoca) instead of Zotz

Also check out the Aztec Mythos Redux thread (originally under Dragon, now probably deeper in the archives), where David Schwartz posted parts V and VI to his Class Acts/Divine article series.

D'Oh! I even double checked to keep the face egg-free. Oh well O:)
