From the other side of the screen - another potential PBP

Gamer Connection

Hi - I am currently running two PBPs and about to start a legacy of fire. Nonetheless, I have a couple of ideas running around for a fourth and possibly fifth and would like to gauge interest...If either of these is to happen they would be starting up in a week or two's time - plenty of time to organise characters and so forth.

I've posted the first previously, this is the second idea. The system would be Pathfinder Beta - 27 point buy for stats. Character level would be seven, although see below. My style/approach to PBPs is in my profile. Probably an important bit is that I prefer people to be able to post once per day - it's not a rule set in stone (and different groups no doubt have quiet days and busy days) nonetheless - that's the regularity I'm expecting as a rule-of-thumb.

The adventure is set in Waterdeep (although a different one than you're probably used to). The central idea is that the PCs are monsters who have been incarcerated by the Lords for essentially the rest of their lives. The campaign begins with them escaping into undermountain with nothing more than a plan to make a dash for the 'safety' of shadowport - they are being hotly pursued by guards, adventuring parties, all manner of 'goody-goodies'. The characters will begin wounded and with nothing but loincloths and a certain desperation - I expect locating food and water will be a higher priority than coins and magic items throughout the adventure.

All players must choose a monstrous race (from pretty much anywhere provided I have the book), with a level adjustment of +1 to +6 and the rest made up of levels in any of the PF core classes.

It will obviously be something of an experiment - it's a dungeon crawl, with monstrous PCs after all - possibly not well suited to PBP play and equally possibly destined for failure. Nonetheless, if you're interested, post any questions or comments here and we'll see if we can make it happen.

I forgot to mention - I will be using the ruins of undermountain boxed sets. If you've used those before, I dont mind, but it may not be as fun for you.

Undermountain ! Why did you have to say that name? I'm in, whether you want me or not. :)

Dark Archive

It sounds godlike i'm in!!!!!!!!!!

Scarab Sages

oooooo

Undermountain...haven't touched the Realms in years...but I'm in!

Well, I'm interested. One quick question, what is your stance on psionics?

It's alien and different from magic - it bypasses magic resistance, for example.

I dont usually allow it for PCs, however given the monstrous theme it would be ok. I dont think I have all the psionics sourcebooks though (largely due to the fact that I dont usually allow players access to them) so the only classes available would be Psion, Psychic Warrior, Soulknife or Wilder.

Scarab Sages

I'm leaning toward
7th level Kobold Sorcerer,
4th level goblin wererat rogue.
6th level Psionic Duergar soulknife or Duergar fighter.

you know you can rule that magic and psionics aren't differnt ;) it even has that as a rule in the books...

That's okay. I only have the Expanded Psionics Handbook, and from what I've heard there were at most five good things in Complete Psionic, and a lot of dumb decisions, like making a ten-level prestige class aimed at Wilders that Wilders couldn't take until 12th level. You're not really missing that much.

Anyway, I'm going with a githyanki fighter/psion, hopefully living long enough to get into Elocator. Would you allow Practiced Psionics (or whatever it's called), basically Practiced Spellcaster but for Psionics.

The race has to have at least a +1 level adjustment (so no kobold, I'm afraid) the others sound good to me.

The reason I make psionics/magic different is that I like it to be alien and unknown. I want my players to be scared when they run into an alien, mind-controlling 'thing' which their protection from magic does nothing to help...not that that has any bearing on this adventure - you guys are the scary ones... :)

We have enough players to get started - I hope it works out as I'm imagining it will...Here is the discussion thread.

We've had one person pull out. If you want to try someone different, or always wanted to play a gnoll, bugbear, whatever... Let me know.

To clarify - characters are ECL 7 with at least a level adjustment of +1 and at least 1 class level.

Liberty's Edge

Looks like you need a healer of some sort - what about a half-dragon lizardfolk druid?

(Edited to add - I know nothing about the Realms. It's not a problem for me, though, if it's not a problem for you.)

Liberty's Edge

My other ideas involve a lizardfolk half-dragon barbarian or a ghost bard.

CURSES! Cheated out of my one chance to play a Blue!!! >:O ;)
Could I be an alternate in case someone else leaves? I've never played in FR before, so I could be a liability, but I think I know enough about it to survive. I was playing in an old PbP much like this one that died, so it'll be nice to join another. Or at least hope to join another.
Thanks!

Both of you would be welcome - head over to the discussion thread if you are interested. You may need to post some references to any races you want to play - (things like where to find the half-dragon...?)

Plus, to recap the ECL is seven but you must have at least one class level, plus the race must have a level adjustment of +1 (hit die are also included in ECL). Let me know if you have any other questions.

Knowledge of the realms is not that important. It's essentially a dungeon crawl, except you are monsters on the run, pursued by goody-goody adventurers heading deeper into the famous dungeon of undermountain (below waterdeep) in search of the town of shadowport - an underground slaver/crime haven deep within the dungeon.
