I like the Game. 'Till now I only played the Sandbox Mode (Heard some good Things about the Campaign, though). It reminds me of Masters of Orion II (Which is a good Thing!) although, for me, the finer points of the game are a bit harder to grasp. As I said: I like the gam a lot but:
- The Tutorials are utter crap. They are videos that don't even present all the details of their topic. It takes some work to get into the game.
- You have to invest some time during the earlier session to design your own spaceships (you can use all designs you've done in later games) because the ship types provided with the game won't let you win an agressive (on your part or the part of the computer) campaign.
- The game, even with the latest patches crashes from time to time (on at least 3 computers) and kills the autosave while doing so
- you will play most of the game on a map screen in minimum zoom - so the graphics will be more or less abstract
- The nonplayer races seem kind of interchangable - i have the feeling the races in MoO 2 had more character.
Galactic Civilizations is a better than solid game (certainly better than Masters of Orion III), but it has its flaws and some of those might interfere with the fun - especially while learning the basics and the finer points of the game - more or less on your own.
