Maure Castle

I just noticed Maure Castle on the boards. Can someone give me a brief run down? I will say that when it comes to published adventures I have heard of many names, but I have only began to seriously look into them because I don't have time to write my own anymore, and the other DM in my group probably does not have time either.

Well, Maure Castle is an update to an old AD&D adventure known as "Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure", which itself comes from the "Castle El Raja Key" adventure setting that was a home-game that Robert Kuntz would DM, with Gary Gygax as a player.

The plot of the module concerns the PCs exploring the dungeons and grounds of Maure Castle, delving into the mysteries of the enigmatic Maure family, a clan of powerful and insane sorcerors, who used the dungeons underneath their stronghold as a magical laboratory and playground. There are darker motivations, such as the highest levels of the family worshipping a powerful extraplanar patron known only as "Y", as well as an eight-pointed star that could hold the key to any number of mysteries, with each point, once a special magical artifact has been place in it, leading to a pocket dimension.

Great summary Pat! :D

The Exchange

Geographica: Maure Castle sits in a Pass between Hills to the north (occupied by Gnomes?) and South (occupied by Dwarves?). THough they never went into it it seemed an Ideal location for a small Neutral Good community on a traderoute between two Kingdoms even though the Castle was Ruined and the Dungeons were extensive and still dangerous.

You might even want to start your PCs out there as Caravan Guards, etc.
