I loved it, and am pretty conservative when it comes to what I'd let little kids see. The "nudity" is for laughs, and if your kids like a little scariness, I think they would enjoy it. It's not your traditional monsters, however. A lot of craft when in to making this film--I hope that it's available in 3D wherever you are.

Is this one okay to bring my boys to? They like monsters and the like. Why is rated PG?
Classic Tim Burton but not really traditional monsters and could easily upset younger children. The ratings board are split on the film, many think it should be 12. Its a female heroine so maybe appeals to younger teen girls rather than boys. I would get it on DVD first ore review the youtube trailers and review it first before showing to young children. Clever film. Toy Story 3 coming up soon...guaranteed success! 'Quick Buzz It's an alien'...

You childrens lives will be enriched by seeing it, thanks to its beauty.
They will learn an important life lessons from it, such as be careful what you wish for.
And you'll be left with the distinct inpression that Neil Gaiman should be locked up very securely :D
Why it has a higher rating:
Essentially it is a story about child abduction. Adults view it through an entirely different lense to children. Children see a slightly scary adventure story, however adults cant help but see the strong themes related to missing children.
If your children are easily scared, or very wise for their age, it might be worth avoiding, but if they are not easily scared and don't watch the magic round about and try to assign which character is on which drug, then it is almost certainly going to be seen as a great film by them.

Stephin Merritt (frontman of the Magnetic Fields, Future Bibile Heroes, The 6ths, and Gothic Archies) just did the songs for a musical version of this book using an independent script adaptation from the movie. It's running right now at the Lucille Lortel theater in New York. I'll be seeing it later this month, so look forward to a nice review of it here.
As for the movie, it remains one of my favorite all time animated films, and one of the least annoying 3-d experiences. Nothing seemed gimicky and actually enhanced the viewing experience rather than existing just for the sake of charging more for a needless 3-d effect.
