I just don't really understand what you have against kobolds. As opposed to, say, goblins. Or bugbears.
Kobolds are simply fun to play. They're downtrodden, morally questionable, and never taken seriously, thus they can say and do all sorts of things other PCs can't say and do.
Boast about how mom praised you for eating your siblings as you hatched? Check.
Discus the taste of boiled vs roasted gnome? Check.
Make sheep-bleating noises at the tiefling warlock? Check.
Loads of fun to be had.
I'm totally making a Kobold Barbarian (Later Frenzied Berserker) named Snappynecks Bloodwater for my next character in either STAP or COTCT.
I will not reveal his rage ability untill absolutely necessary to the rest of the group. They will think the little kobold is a fighter, a scrapper with no idea that underneath his yipping exterior lies the RAMBO of the Kobold race. XD
And when they finally witness my kobold maim and kill one of our enemies. They will stand in AWE at the silliness of someone being gutted by a kobold. Then I will literally dance on their bodies in a happy gollum-like victory dance. (Probably spit out my barbarian chew on them too)

My love of kobolds steams from a single game with three utter idiots as the PCs. There was, really, no way the kobolds should have stood a chance; this was back when they were half-HD pushovers you could take out with a sneeze.
Due to the utter ineptitude of the players, these kobolds mopped the floor with them. It was the greatest moment of PC shame I have ever been party to. Later on, on one of the rare occasions I had a player, I managed to wind up with one as a sidekick because my character was more of a peacemaker than a warrior. It cemented my enjoyment of the little yipping troublemakers.
So, every now and then, I enjoy rolling a kobold PC whose purpose in life is to remind the other players that even the lowliest and most mocked of creatures has potential, and because really, they're just fun to play.
