I am planning to start work on a conversion of Chadranther's Bane (Dungeon #18) to Fourth Edition. I am planning to do it up properly and not just a bunch of scribbled notes on loose paper. I would like to be able to share this with others if they want it. What is Paizo's policy on conversions of older adventures?
Of course I will not be including the adventure itself, just new stats (or pointers to the new monsters), traps, etc. And maybe suggestions on how to modify the map if needed (more room for the encounter, or making multiple rooms into one encounter).
Thanks

Kudo's on the adventure choice btw, Chadranther's Bane is one of the true greats in my opinion. When I ran it, 18 years ago I believe, I expanded out the garden significantly in order to expand out the amount of play.
Any way I think your basically fine if you proceed with the guidelines you have mentioned above. Your not including the adventure itself and thats really the key thing - everyone still needs to have acquired the adventure on their own (good luck with that if you don't already have it) to be able to use your conversion notes. Lots of people are doing conversions, along the lines you describe above, on these boards and Paizo has not stepped in yet. I'm pretty sure that if your not copying the text of the adventure in question you pretty much fall into the 'fair use' category in regards to WotCs IP.

I am working on a lot of conversion projects for my D&D 4E campaign. Among them, I am working on 'Ex Libris' from Dungeon 29. The main "puzzle" in this work is that many of the encounters is one monster vs. the party. I will probably need to create some sort elite or solo guardian monster that are bound to the books. I am thinking something along the lines of thing associate with Oghma, like music or poetry. Like a "living song" or "living verse" guardian.
There are a lot of other adventures I loved from editions past that I'd like to see reworked.

Another excellent choice though for Ex Libris I'd consider changing the level at which the adventure is played and the size of the rooms. I'd go with a significantly higher level for the base adventure - that way you can use some of the more compelling monsters in the game. I always felt that the monster selection was really the weakest aspect of that adventure.
Another interesting option is to use a few less monsters and make Ex Libris essentially a significant feature of another adventure. One could then concentrate on what makes Ex Libris interesting without having to package it up as a full scale adventure in its own right.

You'd have to find out what Wizards of the Coast's policy is—they're the copyright holders for all of the Dungeon adventures.

Exactly. In fact, wasn't Wizard working on some "fan license" as part of the GSL?
