Silent Tide Chronicle Question

Spoiler:
Should max possible gold gained be 453 as published? Or 553 gp to reflect full success with the chests?

Total gold 453gp Open Campaigns go by the sheet to be fair to all.

It should follow the number on the chronicle sheet. Technically, success with the chests is included in that number.

Act 1 Reward + Act 2 Reward + Act 4 Reward + Act 5 Reward = 453GP

So the max gold doesn't include any reward from Act 3, so there really is no extra reward if the PCs do well in Act 3.

I said, "technically." IE, it's an error. :-)

So what I'm understanding from all of this is there's no such thing as "above cap" gold. I'm *really* new to the organized play concept, and I've heard a few people using that term, "above cap."

As an aside, my group did manage to open all 5 chests (as a result of some very humorous antic, I might add). Will there be any way for us to recoup that gold at a later date?

I have another question that came up in a separate thread:

Spoiler:
Was the Cheliax faction goal both to get ahold of one of the creatures' skulls and to find out the specific oath they took to become undead? If so, how were you meant to discover the oath?

I believe that the second part is what the faction plans to do upon the PCs return of the item to his/her superiors. It is only required that the PC attain the item.

In organized play campaigns I've dealt with in the past, any "Over the Cap" gold that the PCs acquire through creative looting or other means can be used during the scenario but is considered spent when everything is done. This meant that PCs could use the gold for such things as extra healing at a local temple, extravagant parties to impress NPCs, or renting a boat, but when everything was done, the money was considered spent. ("We need a new roof for the Pathfinder chapter house, boys! Got anything you can spare?")

This seldom caused problems in practice, because the players have no idea whether they have "over cap" treasure until the scenario is done.

Thanks, Sir Wulf. This answers the question I should have asked... (i.e., What is "over the cap" gold?). I just wish I'd taken the opportunity to spend that extra 100 gold on something fun. ;)

Sometimes I've seen the 'overcap' gold used to 'rent' provisions not normally kept on hand such as expensive alchemical agents or material components at low levels. Just like other overcap it evaporated as soon as the mod was over, but could be immensely useful.

There is only one type of overcap gold in PFS: the day job roll. If we make an error somewhere in the scenario, we still expect everyone to follow the cap on the chronicle sheet to the letter. Your day job roll adds to this total, however.

Why even offer variable rewards based on PC decisions within the scenario then, if it literally doesn't affect the chronicle sheet at all?

The "cap" (or maximum) isn't affected, but the amount you receive still can be.

In PFS2, the maximum is 10 Treasure Bundles, but there are plenty of times where you won't find them all.

In PFS1, the maximum is the GP listed on the Chronicle, but there are plenty of times when you won't earn it all.
