Ummm...I was told 3/4 dice, not half +1.

Some dude

Marak seems to have 5 hp / die (4.5 would be average, rounded up would be 5).

I'm just gonna work the math out here, so that I can find it again next time we level up...

Spoiler:

If it's average (no rounding), he should have 8 (max at 1st level) +40 (4.5 x 9) + 30 (Con) + 10 (Toughness) + 10 (Favored Class) = 98.

If it's rounded to 5 / die, he should have 8 (max at 1st level) +45 (5 x9) + 30 (Con) + 10 (Toughness) + 10 (Favored Class) = 103.

If it's 'half +1' (5.5, no rounding), he should have 8 (max at 1st level) +49 (5.5 x 9) + 30 (Con) + 10 (Toughness) + 10 (Favored Class) = 107.

If it's 'half +1' (rounded up to 6 / die) *or* 'three-quarters' (also 6 / die), he should have 8 (max at 1st level) +54 (6 x 9) + 30 (Con) + 10 (Toughness) + 10 (Favored Class) = 112.

Eh. Hit points. Such a bizarre abstraction.

Marak's still trying to figure out how a dam that required the presence of two fiends to remain functional, and started to fail catastrophically because it only had *one* fiend left, is now expected to keep working with zero fiends...

If this part of the adventure had any internal logic at all, we would have just doomed everyone downstream to a soggy death as the dam crumbles and they eat a face-full of Lake Storval (or whatever).

And if all it takes is a negative energy level worth of life-energy to fix it *forever,* why didn't they just throw a 1 HD rat in it the day it was turned on and then seal the chamber up forever? Gah.

Either we've just doomed a bunch of people and skipped away singing kumbaya, or it literally makes no sense at all. Neither is a terribly satisfying conclusion to me.

Still, Marak is neutral, and will likely regard the upcoming dam failure as tragic, but an inevitable side-effect of building your home downstream from a dam that hasn't received regular maintenance for a hundred years (or, this being Golarion, with it's crazy time scales, possibly even a thousand years)...

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

I was told 3/4 HD too.

If the gates are left open with no energy to close them, the level of the Storval Deep will eventually drop enough to take a lot of the pressure off the damn. We may have saved those downstream folks.

Did the dam start to fail because there was only one fiend, or because Black Magga hauled herself over it?

Dark Archive

From what I can tell the dam had already burst it's banks (Hence the flooding and Black Magga being swept downstream) The damn opening wont make that situation any worse in fact it will lower the water level in a more controlled way also I would imagine the gates will close themselves as part of the procedure once the water drains a certain amount.

As for why they needed a fiend to power it the way I look at is the thing is over 10'000 years old could easily have served for a whole host of things that are now long gone. That or simple showing off (Look how powerfull we are we can enslave fiends to power things for us)

OK as an OOC aid here's the story..

The dam required life energy to open and close the sluice gates..

The sluice Gates regulate the flow of the waters to a manageable level of flooding..don't ask me how, it's Thassilonian Magical Engineering..they make the Netherese look like also-rans.

The failure of the sluices caused the waters of the Storval Deep to rise and flood over at an uncontrolled rate.

The flood carried Black Magga to the dam..again don't ask me why you need to ask the Author..or possibly the developers.

Black Magga damaged the dam and the ogres who had been fighting the trolls for control of the dam took the opportunity to add to the destruction..because they could.

Then you arrived and threw a monkey-wrench in the bad guys plans

Just more wholesome fun for players and DMs alike!

The tentacle managed to stop it making attacks with both claws on the same character which would almost have guaranteed me a kill.

Three cheers for icky otherworldly abilities! I always feard that a construct would be one of things that Inikai would be ill-suited to face. Luckily his companions are like a walking butcher-shop.

Seriously, that tentacle may have been a life-saver.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Hey, Bill. I was looking at my Escape from Old Korvosa (CotCT #3) last night when I said to myself, "That's Inikai on the cover!"

It's nice to be recognized.

I have noticed that I associate certain avatars with specific posters. This is particularly true for the players in this game. I played in a Serpent's Skull game with a ranger who used Romon's avatar and it used to bother me when I went from one thread to the other. Sadly, that situation was cleared up with the DM for that game disappeared.

Now I have home for my racist inquisitor of Asmodeus. (Sob!)

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

You guys are too sharp!

I was hoping someone would call Romon out and that he could do the classic pickpocket routine -- return the item, take something else, repeat as needed, and then blame it on a spell caster by producing it from their pack.

Bill, racist inquisitor of Asmo? That's a solid idea.

Avatar crossover can take me offguard too. Sometimes I'll jump campaigns replying to the wrong PC with the same avatar as another.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Good question Wellard. Much of my post was fluff for theatrical effect. I see I should have put a bit more thought into it.

To answer, I am not quite sure. Animal Tongue is something I came up with myself to go along with my Wild Druid class or archtype.

In my mind, I see this as part Extraordinary ability and part Supernatural ability. But it could also simply be one or the other. For example, it could be as simple as her being able to call out in Animal Tongue (which could be construed as actually being made up of several animal, or species, 'languages'). So basically it might call any animals within earshot who care to or choose to come visit her. And the skill rolls would decide if any or what types or how many come.

Or she could be mystically 'calling' certain types of animals to her, although this one seems like it would involve more and need more definition. For example having a certain range and duration. As well, her effect or control over the animals should be significantly greater should this be the method.

I'm very open to ideas and suggestions on how this might best be devised and determined.

As for her doing this in a hunting camp, I do see your point. Yet at the same time, I don't think that just because someone is a hunter, they are compelled to instantly slaughter any and every animal that they may see. An idea which would never occur to Ali, so I stand behind her doing it this way.

And besides, Inikai (and Muchorak) seem to have the solution to the possible problem well in hand. Thanks guys ; )

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

I think Wellard's point is that the animals would want to avoid the hunting camp at all costs, not that the hunters would massacre them en masse.

The pull of a magical ability might overcome the natural aversion the animals have to the hunters' camp. Certainly a summoning spell would not be stymied by the fact that it is cast in an area that the conjured being typically avoids, unless I am mistaken.

Khaladon:

Don't worry about anyone messing with Ali while we are around. Although, that is probably more to protect anyone foolish enough to incur Ali's wrath.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Ah, yes, could be you're right Dabbs. Apologies if I assumed wrong.

And ha! Thanks Bill! You're probably quite right
"Now look little girl, why don't you just run along and play with your little animals somewhere else while I make myself some nice, new rabbit fur slipp...Argh! What the he...where'd the lit...Argh! That thing is HUGE! Get it off me! Get it off me!!"

Forgive me for thinking it's all a bit Disney Princess..lol

And yes the Hunters wouldn't go into full scale slaughter mode..but certain creatures like young male deer would be considered fair game.

I'd limit it to a one mile radius which makes it powerful but not ridiculous.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

That sounds totally fair. Thanks

And ya, I guess she can be a bit disney princess, but one with big honking fangs and scary as s#!t ; )

I saw a druid character that in effect had a "thinking brain rhinoceros" - after casting awaken on it, the rhino's intelligence of 9 was smarter by several steps than it's master's.

Now that we are going to be facing the ranks of the ogres again, I expect that we will need more firepower with larger areas of effect. Do you all agree? I ask because I am trying to think of what vestiges Inikai should use.

Wellard:

I don't want to risk breaking the game, as with Cthulhu's mind-blast. Do you want me to pre-certify these things with you first. If so, I will post the vestiges that I am considering here. If you nay-say any of them I will go with something else.

Behind Door Number 1
Spoiler:

Alien form: While bound to Zceryll, the binder gains the pseudonatural template (page 161 of Complete Arcane).
Zceryll Reference:

Pseudonatural Template (Complete Arcane, p161):
Can be applied to any corporeal creature
Size and Type: Type changes to Outsider

Special Attacks: Once per day, a pseudonatural creature can cast True Strike on itself as a supernatural ability.

Special Qualities: Resistance (Ex): A pseudonatural creature has a resistance to acid and electricity based on the base creature’s Hit Dice, see table below.

Damage Reduction (Ex): A pseudonatural creature gains damage reduction based on the base creature’s Hit Dice, see table below.

Hit Dice Acid, Electricity DR
1-3 5 -
4-7 5 5
8-11 10 5/magic
12+ 15 10/magic

Spell Resistance (Ex): The creature gain a SR of 10 + Base Creature’s HD (Maximum 25)
Alternate Form (Su): As a standard action, a pseudonatural creature can take the form of a grotesque, tentacled mass (or another appropriately gruesome form, as determined by the DM). Despite the alien appearance, its abilities remain unchanged. Other creatures receive a -1 morale penalty on their attack rolls against a pseudonatural creature when it is in this alternate form.
Abilities: Same as base creature but Intelligence is at least 3.

Alien Mind: The binder's mind is alien and does not work like that of a normal mortal. He is immune to Confusion, Insanity, and Weird spells. In addition, the binder receives a +1 bonus per four binder levels on saving throws against mind-affecting effects.
Bolts of Madness: The binder can fire a ray that dazes an opponent for 1d3 rounds. The binder must succeed on a ranged touch attack with a range of 100 feet + 10 feet per binder level. A successful Will save negates the effect. Once the binder has used this ability, he cannot do so again for 5 rounds.

Summon Alien: The binder can summon any creature from the Summon Monster list that a sorcerer of his level could summon. Any creature the binder summons with this ability gains the pseudonatural template. Thus, at 10th level the binder could summon any creature from the summon monster I-V list. When the binder reaches14th level, he can summon any creature from the summon monster I-VII list. The binder can only summon creatures that can be affected by the pseudonatural template. Once the binder has used this ability, he cannot do so again for 5 rounds.

Telepathy: The binder gains the telepathy ability with a range of 100 feet (as described on page 316 of the Monster Manual) and the Mindsight feat (as described on page 126 of Lords of Madness). Benefit: A creature that has this feat can detect and pinpoint beings that are not mindless (anything with an Intelligence score of 1 or higher) within range of its telepathy. This works much like blindsense - the creature knows what square each thinking being is in but it does not see the being and the being still has total concealment unless the creature can see it by some other means. The creature also perceives several observable characteristics about each being detected with mindsight, including the being's type and Intelligence score. The creature need not take any additional or special actions to gain this information; it is as obvious to mindsight as the being's race and clothing would be to eyesight.

Normal: Telepathy offers no special ability to sense other minds. The creature has to know that a being is there to communicate with it telepathically.

Door Number 2

Spoiler:

Gilgamesh's Strength: Gilgamesh was once a deity of strength and athletic prowess and he grants the binder a +4 bonus to strength.

Gilgamesh's Wrath: Gilgamesh was known to show his displeasure in the form of lightning strikes. The binder can deliver a set of lightning strokes once per round as a standard action against foes within 10 feet per effective binder level. The lightning bolt deals 5d6 points of damage (or 5d10 in a stormy area). The binder can conjure one bolt plus one bolt per five effective binder levels. No more than one bolt can strike an opponent each round. Once the binder has used Gilgamesh's Wrath he cannot do so again for five rounds.

Overbearing Might: Due to his tyrannical and iron-fisted rulings, the binder receives a boost to his Intimidate checks as a competence bonus equal to his effective binder level.

Supreme Wrestler: Wrestling was a martial art form that Gilgamesh admired and had mastered. The binder gains the Improved Grapple feat and is considered one size category larger for the purpose of grappling (along with the +4 extra grappling bonus for counting as if one size larger, for a total modifier of +8). His unarmed strikes deal lethal damage and also deal damage as if he were one size category larger.

Tyrannical Might: This ability functions like the Greater Command spell. The caster level is equal to the binder's effective level and the save. Tyrannical Might can be used once every five rounds.

And Door Number 3

Spoiler:

Green Flame of Tulzscha: The binder can call upon the manifestation of Tulzscha, calling a tiny portion of its form into existence. This acts as a 50-foot line-shaped breath weapon deals 1d6 points of damage per two binder levels. Half of this is cold damage and half of this is unholy damage, as the opposite of the Flame Strike spell. This power can be used once every five rounds.

Immunity to Energy Drain: Taking on a portion of the negativity of Tulzscha gives the binder immunity to energy drain. The binder does not suffer negative levels and automatically loses all negative levels he has when he binds Tulzscha. The binder must show Tulzsha's sign to use this power, as the negative force is drawn into the binder's eyes.

Draining Force: The binder channels a more powerful manifestation of the green flame with his hand, drawing the life-force out of mortal creatures and the unliving alike. The binder can make a touch attack to deal 1d4 ability damage of his choice to a foe. The save is the normal binder save, but the binder's constitution bonus is replaced with a bonus in whatever statistic he damages. This power can be used once every five rounds.

Expunge Existence: The binder can dispel minor magical effects. This power acts as Dispel Magic with the following changes: the binder's caster level is his effective binder level, the binder can use only the area dispel version of this spell and the area affected is washed for an instant with the flowing green flames of Tulzscha.

I didn't figure the BBEG would be a standard ogre, but the door guards? I could hope.

And Dabbler does have a point about the ogres on the bridge.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Wow, that's great!

Thanks So much Wellard!

Would have likely taken me forever to get to that.

I wonder though, how come Little Bear doesn't get the same treatment?

Also, this doesn't affect the game at all, just my imagination of the change. I see it was being steady and gradual, as opposed to Lunas 'suddenly' becoming Large sized.

Wellard:

I went with Door Number 1.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Wellard, I just realized that I missed your half-speed edict. Romon will stay on the same plan. Just stop him however far he gets in round 1 and let me know where.

The ones you faced on the dam were wounded and exhausted..

There's a feat and a trick to choose for Lunas..

I'll get onto Ursas soon.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Cool. I do that soon. Thanks.

Open to suggestions everyone!

Dark Archive

Some dude

The animal companion feats I go for first are Toughness, Improved Natural Attack and, if feasible, Light Armor Proficiency (for a chain shirt barding). Lunas already has Toughness and Improved Natural Attack, and I'm not sure if Light Armor Proficiency fits thematically.

Animal Companions lag behind on Base Attack, so Power Attack and Cleave aren't as useful as they would be, for a full BAB companion or ally.

It looks like he has all the prerequisites for Spring Attack, which could be handy.

Endurance, as a prerequisite to pick up Diehard, could also be a decent idea.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

I def like the Spring Attack idea, seems to fir for a wolf. Thanks Set.

And so Wellard, Orge Hooks are not made of metal? Just checking.

As I said I missed that save requirtement..hey I'm running three games playing in 3 more and get about an hour a day to do everything..Materially it didn't change anything as he had missed Lunas anyway and Lunas failed with his AoO as the Ogre picked up the weapon again.

And your up
