New Roll vs Role

4th Edition

A new Roll vs Role is up here.

This time, a despicable War Troll is featured in his conquests in the name of Bane. Will no one stop him?

Pretty interesting idea, and I like the Troll Witch. Seemed like a well thought out adventure seed, and I could see using it someday.

Thoughts?

It has some really nice ideas certainly, i'll be raiding it i think

Good stuff and an interesting frame work upon which to build an adventure that comes with some interesting conundrums. Though I'm not sure they played up the problems with removing the Troll leaders enough.

The Exchange

Good article. Chris Reed, when he ran the PoU in Fla. for LG, was infamous for making cracky 3.0/3.5 trolls. The half troll template was abused with great vigor.

Slightly off topic: Does anyone have any clue as to why Roll vs. Role is in Dragon and not Dungeon? Come on, it's just a small, fill-in-the-gaps adventure.

Actually, I was rather disappointed with this article. Granted, its Roll vs Role, so the format and purpose is fairly limited. But it seems to me that if you are going to spend the time showing a pretty interesting alternative use for a monster, that some kind of effort should be spent on the details and implications.

This is just a mini encounter.. Skill Challenge to get into town, combat to solve the problem...

I'd much rather have had the time spent on detailing how this place might work as a long term issue in the campaign, not a single evening monster mop up....

Troll art definitely nice, though.

I have to agree that some more details about what this actually means for the world around it and the like would be cool. But, in truth, compaired to much of the stuff from new dragon and new dungeon so far, this is an interesting and potentially useful articial. I actually think this could have made a full blown adventure, pulls two or three pages of discussion.
