That's just weird. I don't get it.

There is no bad press. We just have to get the Pathfinder Rules to both candidates.

Send both parties some dice.

It could be like the coke commercial where they both sit in front of the capital, only, you know, attacking goblins this time!

Yup. And then in the UK there is that whole "Jedi" thing. There is enough humor to go all around.

Yeah, but America never had the likes of Winston Churchill and Lady Astor in Congress.

During a Floor Debate
Lady Astor (to Churchill): Sir, if you were my husband I would put posion in your coffee.
Churchill (in response): Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it.

We never get great debates like this in the Colonies.

Scarab Sages

Well,

I am not a veteran, republican, nor democrat. I am a dungeons and dragons player. Here's how I see it:

The McCain aide used the stereotype of the basement-dwelling, D&D playing dork to ridicule and undermine "rickrocket's" blog. However, this stereotype is one perpetrated by none other than D&D players themselves.

When the cover the Player's Handbook 4th edition ANDY COLLINS name on it, a casual search about who these people are (follow the link) would suggest a certain left-leaning sympathy.

Using D&D players as a derogatory attack is certainly childish, but to the uninitiated, thats exactly what we the D&D community have perpetrated.

Offensive? Hardly.

I've been called a "D&D Nerd" for decades now. I choose not to empower people by being bothered by insults.

Apprently, playing dungeons and dragons is a left thing to do.

After looking over the article, that is a weird statement to someone like me, especially when most of the friends I grew up playing with were definitely not left-leaning...and I'm sure they still are not.

The link to the article about the apology is kind of funny...

Mr. Goldfarb wrote:

If my comments caused any harm or hurt to the hard working Americans who play Dungeons & Dragons, I apologize. This campaign is committed to increasing the strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma scores of every American.

It's amazing to me that he got enough heat to apologize to D&D players

". . . committed to increasing the strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom and charisma scores of every American." Hilarious!

You are joking, right? Try this one on for size.

But that wasn't in Congress. The Great Churchill/Lady Astor fights were on the floor of Parliment.

Well, you just said 'no great debates in the colonies.' But if you want an in-congress fracas, what about the abolition debates where Brooks came in and beat Charles Sumner until his cane broke?

Okay, well there was that.

What ever happened to Playing D&D = anti-christ ?

People grew brains.

Actually, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that stereotype has completely died out...?

It did not. There are still those who feel that DnD is just a demonic tool to draw young minds into the occult. The only difference is that they don't feel at liberty to run their mouths as loudly about the subject.

And there are enough Christian gamers out there that they have been pretty much marginalized. Almost everyone knows a gamer, except in a few isolationist groups, and they can see for their own eyes that we are not demonic cultists out to destroy their world. So they have turned their attention to bashing Harry Potter instead.

Precisely what I meant when I said they don't feel as free to run their big mouths. But I've still got fundie friends who are more upset with my "lifestyle" of roleplaying than with the fact I'm Jewish. The worst part is that they aren't being judgmental freaks or jerks about it...they honestly and truly believe that I'm endangering my soul by engaging in the game. That's sad to me, that they've been fed such misinformation by people they trust. To the point where it isn't up for debate anymore than whether murder is ok.

No no it has not, but it is dieing and although slow it is only now coming to the point that this is no longer truly excepted. In point of fact the prevalence of games such as WOW and EQ is doing a lot to change the way people see this game. That being said it will take only one death popularized in the press of some kid killing himself or someone else over the loss of some silly character on one of these silly little online freak fests for it to blow all out of proportion.
