Reuter's is running this story right now:
Laurence Fishburne is prime "CSI" suspect
By Nellie Andreeva
Tue Aug 5, 11:42 PM PDTLaurence Fishburne is in talks to replace William Petersen as the star of CBS' veteran crime drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
The search for a new lead has been shrouded in secrecy, but sources say Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.
Fishburne, an Oscar nominee for "What's Love Got to Do With It," had been mentioned as one of the "CSI" producers' top choices for the role, along with John Malkovich and Kurt Russell

While I would be pleased to see an actor of Mr. Fishburne's caliber on CSI, I am not pleased with character concept. Why can't they just have a nice normal person replace Grissom for a change? The last guy had a great storyline and all, but right as I got hooked on his character, he was killed off. I'm afraid that they will pull another stunt like that. I would rather they just keep Grissom around by mentioning him once and awhile, and maybe a guest apperance or two by William Petersen to establish that Grissom is still at the lab, just working off stage on one thing or another.
Thoughts?

I...wasn't even aware Gil was/has leaving/left. But I sorta tuned out after the Stokes' burial two parter...except for the one with Sidle under the car in the rain. anyway. ya. I can't really see Fishburne on that show. or rather, I can't see him with that character concept on that show. He is a great actor though. I think if they gave him a more normal background, then it may even be worth looking up again. And it is a definate must to keep Gil having the occasional appearence. he's too central to the show to have him leave completely.

Gill will be leaving at the end of this coming season . As Nameless mentioned, he has put a lot of work into the show. As executive producer I'm sure he could just pop in anytime he feels like it. Kinda like the cameo with Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters a couple of episodes before the finale.
