Well, your up no matter what Mahaffy rolls so you might as well have at it.

Something to keep that thing from smacking Ka'kara for another negative level would be ideal... do you have protection from evil, by any chance?

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Bad roll, just when I needed a good one.

In a tiny wail, "No!" Seriously, I hope this has the normal effect -- Roylenna wouldn't know yet, so she would try it.

The little sorceress slips to the side to get a clear shot at Ka'kara's attacker before releasing a sickly purple beam of light at the creature, striking it square in the chest.

Ray of Enfeeblement with Point Blank Shot 1d20+5=25, 1d6+2=8

Possible crit (if the new rules allow it)!

Attempt to confirm critical hit

1d20+5=21, 1d6+2=5

Note that the damage assumes an extra +1 from the Point Blank Shot feat, please disregard if not appropriate.

Roylenna Brenoien wrote:

I believe you are right in your suspicion that it won't work. Undead are traditionally immune to ability drain and ability damage sadly. No worries yet, she can survive another hit. It's the third one that will be truly bad news.... Well, let's see what it does to me since it's now up, bring it on!

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

We'll just have to pray it's not a critical hit ...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Roylenna's ray illuminates the undead creature in a flash of green light, but does nothing to stop it. Relentlessly it punches Ka'kara in the gut for 3 points of damage and another negative level.

Actually, I'd have granted Roylenna a Knowledge (religion) or (arcana) check to know that, but I doubt that she could have done much to help.

You're up. Put the poor wight out of its misery.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

Felicia Charges straight in hoping to get a quick shot in on the creature

attack

1 d 20 + 7=14

Damage

1 d 4 + 1=5

Are we fighting in a doorway here? How much room to maneuver do we have?

Sandros Highmount wrote:

The wight was hiding behind a corner. There is a 10 feet opening, so it would be possible to tumble around it if you're looking to flank. Assuming that Ka'kara will want to withdraw and that you don't want to grant any AoO there is only room for two of you to fight it without tumbling - the first round, that is.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Run?! Never! but she'll stagger back 5' feet so someone can jump in front of her ;) Unfortunately, she goes after everyone except Petra and Roylenna (who goes before the wight next round)

Ka'kara's gray and ashen face says it all. She struggles to rage but it is a mere shadow of her normal berserking self. With a wobbly swing at the undead monstrosity she staggers back gasping and choking.

+3BAB+4STR+2Rage+1MWGreatsword-1PowerAttack-2NegativeLevels: 1d20+7=15, 2d6+12=18 Ick! I hope that hits.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy will have a quick look at the other entrance to check if it would permit to circle the wight

Acrobatics (1d20+10=13)

Sandros attempts to slip around the wight, but getting around the enlarged barbarian proves enough of a distraction that the move has none of his usual grace.

What happens next depends on whether he gets tagged by the wight's AoO...

Does PFE Help? It only gives +2 tp AC and Save

It's a deflection bonus to AC, so it would protect against the wight's slam.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Felicia stabs the unliving horror and leaves an ugly gash. Sandros tries to tumble past the wight, but as he stumbles, the wight's fist comes down on his back (for 3 points of damage and a negative level). Mahaffy runs around to the right, only to find a dead end. Ka'kara staggers back after delivering a mighty blow that leaves the wight barely standing.

Petra and Roylenna are up - and Sandros, who still has a standard action left.

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

If petra can reach the wight she will hit him with a CLW (if it is not too crowded). If she can't she will cast PFE on Ka'kara. So cast CLW, move and touch.

CLW (DC14) attack and damage: 1d20+2=21 & 1d8+2=5

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna tries a different ray attack this time Heavenly Fire but fails to connect with the creature.

Attack 1d20+5=6, Damage 1d4+2=3

Oh, no! I just realized that those were both natural 1's!!

BT:

Spoiler:
Some GM's I play with require a Dex DC 10 or bad things happen, so here you go: 1d20+3=10

Actually, I was assuming that she wasn't enlarged anymore. It only last 3 minutes.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I was assuming the same thing.

Sandros is up.

Black Tom wrote:

Sorry, I've been trying to figure out what having a negative level does to my spellcasting. As I read it, I have a -1 CL, which means I have a CL of 0 - can I therefore not cast spells? Or are only the spells with CL-dependent effects messed up by that?

I'd go for the latter, and you lose one slot.

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:

Actually, according to the new PFRPG, you don't lose a slot. Here's the quote: "Spellcasters do not lose any prepared spells or slots as a result of negative levels." As far as the CL of the spells.....errrr.....wow, that is a mystery. IMO, they would just have the 1st level effect, whatever that is. Kinda like you can't roll below a 1 for damage no matter what your negatives to damage are. Just my 2 coppers.

OK, my bad. But I still think the CL should be 0, which would put the duration of most spells at 0. It makes sense to me that you're screwed as a 1st-level spellcaster that gets a negative level.

Sandros hisses in pain as he feels his very life force get stripped away, but his blade is only slightly slower as it dances through a complex arcane movement. As he stabs out, he shouts, "Aika tildemakil," but the wight steps aside as if the half-elf were attacking through molasses.

Rapier attack with bardic music, flanking bonus, and Power Attack and negative level penalties, plus critical strike (1d20+8=10, damage 1d6+5=7, critical strike 1d6=6)

Goodness. After pondering all weekend, that's what I wasted my spell on? (sigh)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The wight also senses its unholy force waning, but it won't go quietly into the good night. Pummeling Sandros furiously, it inflicts another negative level as well as 2 points of damage.

You're all up.

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6

Felicia takes another swing at the Wight

attack (Assuming flank)

1 d 20 + 7=27

Confirm critical (assuming were using the PFRPG rules that let you crit undead)

1 d 20 + 7=27

Damage

1d4 + 1=3

Crit damage

1d4 + 1=5

Female Human Barbarian 7

+3BAB+4STR+2Rage+1MWGreatsword-1PowerAttack-2NegativeLevels: 1d20+7=11, 2d6+12=15

Seeing Sandros now in dire straights Ka'kara leaps back forward only to have the creature easily sidestep the blow.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Felicia gives the undead thing a final stab, and the red lights dim. Bereft of its animating power it collapses like a puppet that has had is strings cut. Now it is just a dead body.

A careful sifting through the rubble yields the following: an intact ceramic mug engraved with images of unicorns (15 gp), two masterwork daggers and a masterwork buckler and two doses of antitoxin. Also Mahaffy finds a secret door leading to a small room containing two cots on each of which rests a human skeleton dressed in rotting robes. One of them wears a gold ring set with a large ruby (worth 350 gp). Apart from that there are no exits and nothing else of interest (unless goblin graffiti fascinates you).

And of course you get a measly 135 xp for your trouble.

I suspect it's time to rest, but where?

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy looks at his companions and says :"I propose we go rest in the skeletons' room we just fought . If memory serve , There is a door and I should be able to lock it. You really don't look well ..."

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara just nods and slumps in the corner of the secret room, her raked throat and midriff still oozing blood.

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

I propose we go rest at an inn. Negative levels need taking care of and I need some peace ....and a good atmosphere ....and some wine in order to to fix you up. By the way: anyone got some wine ?

An inn would suit me as well. I'd really rather have these negative levels gone before I have to worry about a random encounter roll...

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Bad bad idea , the nearest inn is a day away in a unsafe country .
We should dig in and endure

you can take the Dwarf out of the caves but the mentality stays

Well let's hear from the others. food, nice beds at a nice Inn or a cave

Cave vs. Wine or ale. or both.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yeah, as I read it it's two for the inn and two for the cave. I know that Roylenna is out of town, but what say you, Felicia?

Female Halfling Swashbuckler 6
Black Tom wrote:

Well being the way she is Felicia will have to go for cave (The heroes roughing it sounds better in a story sounds better than going to a posh hotel as far as she is concerned)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

OK, I take it that you think it's a good idea to camp for 24 hours in a weakened condition next door to the goblin tribe that you previously decimated. Do you think I'm going soft?

I'd like to hear about your sleeping arrangements, please.

Heh, you ol' softy. Nah, but it seems fairly safe behind a secret door that they have no idea exists and was guarded by a horrible undead creature they probably fear.

Ka'kara staggers to her feet and offers to take the first watch, "I doubt I'll be able to sleep with how awful I feel anyway."

BTW she is currently down 10 hitpoints.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

OK, but the only secret door here was in the wight's room and the room behind it is only 10 feet by 20. Assuming that Ka'kara and Sandros take the beds I'll only grant them the benefit of complete bed rest. The rest of you will have to do with 8 hours of sleep. Of course it may be a moot point, but it's still cramped quarters, and as I understood it you were talking about crashing in the room with the skeletons.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

NAW , we don't think you are going soft . But frankly Mahaffy remember the trolls' encounter in the wilderness and is afraid we'll have another encounter going to the inn ...

Female Human Barbarian 7
Mahaffy wrote:

Exactly! I think the skeletons are tossed out. If no one else does than Ka'kara does it.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

So the skeleton room it is then. Tossing out the skeletons and locking the door. What then?

Female Human mixed blood (Skandik blood link) Cleric 2 (favored class)

healing anyone?
Ka'kara and Sandros must rest. You will do as I tell you or I won't be able to heal you.
Petra has a healer kit. Take 10 + skill mod +8 + healers kit 2 = 20.
Long-Term Care: DC 15

Actually, both of us are down 10 points more than we have listed, I think, because negative levels reduce our current and maximum hit points by 5 each.

Sandros submits to Petra's ministrations with a laugh. "If you insist, Mistress Pesmal, I will go to bed and do as you command, but I warn you: someday I might expect you to let me... return the favor." He gives her a broad wink and suggestive eyebrow-waggle, but then laughs again, lays down, and makes no further complaint.

Sandros has a reputation to live up to, you know.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but does long-term care help with the save to remove the negative levels?

I have already included that -10 hp in my hitpoint maximum so she is actually wounded 10 hp beyond that. Being that we are now effectively 1st level I am thinking we will only regain a measly 4 hps for a full days rest.

At Sandros' words Ka'kara begins to get up despite Petra's instructions, "You want me to knock him out so you can work in peace?" The words come out a little harsher than she expects them to and her faint smile disappears into a frown. She gives a frustrated sigh and lies back down.

No need to. Lie down and keep calm.

Petra will first channel energy then start taking care of Ka'kara and Sandros.
