Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Proteus takes 4 points of falling damage. You can't see or hear Ka'kara but there is movement in the lake and soon a familiar face emerges.

"You again!" the mephit screams, but then the great thumping of an ogre jumping down silences him. "Oh #¤&!" he exclaims before diving under the surface.

That's the last you see of it as you hurry towards the orcish graves.

The ogre refuses to squeeze down the passage so you take a hurried farewell for now and go on searching for the impulsive barbarian.

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
It would help to know exactly what said barbarian is planning to do.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

"I think it's that way." Proteus states while pointing to one of the openings heading south away from the lake, although he waits to see how the ogre is going to traverse the cliff. Upon seeing the ogre refusing to traverse down the path, Proteus turns to him speaking in gravelly a tone.

In Giant,

Spoiler:

"Thank you dear friend, we shall all see you soon."

"Bye! Thank you so much! We'll come tell you what we find!"

Roylenna looks at the lake with a somewhat smug look on her face. See? We're not your only problem if you try to mess with us.

With that, she hustles after the boys, Dancing Lights dancing along as they are wont to do.

Sandros leads the group down the path Proteus has indicated.

Female Human Barbarian 7

BT:

Spoiler:
She is headed to the door leading to the goblin king. Does she think she can bash it down with this ram by herself? As she enters the area she'll hug one wall so as to avoid arrow fire from that wall (didn't they have arrow slits?)

Male Human Fighter 1 (Two Weapon Archetype)

As the party moves down the tunnel Rana switches one of his shortswords for his whip. "Do you see anything elfling?"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
You needn't worry about the door so much as the four goblins you run into in the room with the giant heads. Roll for initiative.

Without the ogre to carry them, Royl and Hella are bound to slow you down. Will you wait for them or just let them catch up later?

I vote for slowing down to let them keep pace with us. I'm not in any hurry to rush to my death..again :)

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

I also vote we slow down to allow them to stay with us. No need in splintering the party further.

BT:

Spoiler:
Not expecting any goblins here Ka'kara is very slow to react. Initiative: 1d20=3

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
The goblins aren't really expecting Ka'kara either, but they are quick to take advantage of their numbers. Two of them hurl their javelins, one of which hits her in the head. Although it fails to penetrate her helmet, it stuns her briefly and deals 7 points of damage. The other two approach to beat her up with their minuscule morningstars. One connects with a blow to the stomach for another 4 points of damage.

Ka'kara is up

If Sandros concurs you all gather before descending the narrow steps into the mausoleum. It looks likely that your crazy amazon friend went this way recently, but you can't be sure.

He does.

Sandros is willing to lead the way, but he will ask Proteus to light up his rapier, just in case. Royl's lights depend on her presence, and he'd rather not have to rely on that.

BT:

Spoiler:
Blood streaming down her face from the gash (btw, she has no helmet) she gives the goblins a death grin and rages. 1d20+8=10, 2d6+12=17 sigh, that figures

Hey, we're doing the best that we can!

"Puff, puff. If you outrun the range of my Lights, slow down. Otherwise, catch up to that crazy girl!"

Roylenna is running to keep up as much as possible and let them get closer to Ka'kara sooner.

"C'mon, Hella! We can keep up!" For a little while, at least.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Proteus casts light on Sandros' blade and follows closely behind.

Perception (sight) (1d20+3=20)

Female Halfling Rogue 2

"I'm right....behind you," pants Hella. "Do you think she put on those cursed bracers? It might explain her more than usual impetuous behavior."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
The goblins close to melee, but their faint blows are inexpert and they all miss, although you can feel one through your armor.

Ka'kara is up again.

As you descend into the mausoleum, you hear the sound of fighting in the distance.

Female Human Barbarian 7

BT:

Spoiler:
The first clumsy swing puts her out of position for a second effective strike. She uses the blades momentum instead of fighting it to spin her in a complete circle bringing it sweeping across at chest height to the goblins. The clumsy maneuver proves effective as the sword bites deeply into the offguard goblins torso splattering her and the adjacent goblin with a bloody spray. Tears mix with the blood streaming down her face and her smile is humorless and grim. raging sword strike 1d20+8=19, 2d6+12=18

"I'll wear her tattoos for leggings, I swear I will..." Sandros sprints toward the sounds of combat.

Initiative (1d20+4=14)

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
Amid the splatter of goblin, the remaining ones fight on with fierce determination but a little too anxious to avoid the sharp end of Ka'kara's greatsword. One of them aims low, though, and manages to score a hit for 3 points of damage.

Ka'kara is up.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
As their companion falls the goblins make a desperate effort to bring you down. This time they both hit and cause you 6 points of damage. You're up.

Female Human Barbarian 7

BT:

Spoiler:
1d20+8=13, 2d6+12=19 Actually, that should be a 15 to hit for surprise accuracy this round. Forgot to add it in.

Bloodied further she lets out a scream of rage and swings at the next goblin.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sandros and Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
Sandros sprints through the corridor, seeing Ka'kara in the room with the giant heads battling some goblins. As he draws close Ka'kara roars in fury and cleaves a goblin. Only one is left standing, but Ka'kara looks pretty badly hurt, too.

The goblin takes a desperate swing at Ka'kara but misses pathetically. Sandros is up, then Ka'kara.

BT and Sandros:

Spoiler:
I assume the goblin is still standing after Sandros' attack Ka'kara suddenly aware of Sandros' presence moves to place the goblin between him and her before hacking it down (She'll accept the AOO if this causes one to be available to the goblin). This seems more to get away from Sandros' than to get a benefit on the goblin. 1d20+8=14, 2d6+12=22 If she gets flank than a 16 to hit. "Stay away! I'll only end up hurting you all!" The rage seems to drain from her, she slumps as she looks down upon the butchered corpses of the goblins and more quietly, "Let me face the Goblin King alone and it shall be decided once and for all." She uses her greatsword to steady herself as weariness and bloodloss hit her.

Sandros: Perception (sight) DC 14: You notice that tears are mixing with the blood that is running down her face from a head wound.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sandros and Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
The goblin's AoO hits for 5 points of damage, but Ka'kara is fired up enough by her rage to finish it off before collapsing.

As the rest of the party arrives at the room with the giant heads, you find Sandros standing with a bloody rapier and a puzzled expression over the bodies of four very dead goblins and an unconscious Ka'kara.

I'm not sure exactly how to split the xp, but I'll grant half to Ka'kara and half to you all, which means 320 xp to Ka'kara and 50 to the rest of you.

Deleting a very touching scene between Ka'kara and Sandros because, well, she's unconscious, and it is a lot less touching that way.

BT and Ka'kara:

Sandros flicks the blood off his rapier with a pensive expression. "She's badly hurt, Proteus," he says. "And whatever has wounded her is not entirely of the body..."

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Proteus quickly moves to where Ka'kara lay. He places his hands on her and chants the words, "Insequor lecum." Healing Ka'kara (rebuke death) (1d4+1=2).

Is that enough to bring Ka'kara to positive hit points?

Yes, she should be at 1 hp.

Proteus will wait to apply any further healing to try to determine what sort of madness overcame Ka'kara when she awakens.

Ka'kara's eyes open slowly and she takes a moment to regain her bearings. Realizing she is surrounded by the group a look of frusteration crosses her face. Reaching up she touches Proteus' on the cheek and her face softens, "You must stay away. I don't want anyone to get hurt because of me. Let me go face the Goblin King alone and you won't be in danger anymore."

Ninja'd - time warp to after she regains consciousness and before she gets to her feet - 'cause there's no way I'm looking her in the eye standing up.

Roylenna wends her way through the legs of the longshanks to Ka'kara's side. Looking very closely in her face, she says, "Did you accept any gifts from strangers while we were in the city? I ask because, girl, you are not making any sense right now. I mean, really -- if we were avoiding danger, we would not be in a goblin-infested cavern, now would we?"

Roylenna will also forego providing her healing to the barbarian until the group is convinced that she is in her right mind. For a barbarian, of course.

Roylenna reaches up to put her hand on the tattoo that seems to have Ka'kara's attention. In a soft voice, she says, "Ka'kara, I don't know what happened, but then is not now. You have been a good friend to us and you have not lost control once despite having many chances to do so. You could easily have killed the paladin or Rana and no one would have blamed you -- but you mastered the fury, not the other way around.

"If I have brought bad memories back asking questions, I am sorry, but bad memories are like an infection - they do more harm if they are ignored. You need to expose them to the sunlight. Come over here, tell me what happened. Let me be a friend to you in your time of need."

If Ka'kara seems willing to confide, Roylenna will motion for the others to stay back so they can have a moment of privacy.

Lenna wrote:

She waits for the others to back away before she begins speaking in hushed tones to Lenna.....

Lenna:

Spoiler:
Her hand shaking while she touches the tattoo the tears come unbidden, "We were spirit companions......Liri, was her name.....she.....I.....there was a man who tried to force her.........I came upon them and threw him off of her.......all I remember is the fury.....she was screaming something at me over and over as I grabbed up the fallen branch but I can't remember what it was. As I brought the branch down upon him she leapt in the way........the blood(she stares down at her own blood soaked hands).....there was so much, I couldn't do anything......I tried but it wouldn't stop......he ran and told the village what I had done......they came and took her from my arms.....I don't remember what they said but I found out that she had been secretly seeing the man for a full moon......she kept the secret even from me.....we had no secrets from each other....how was I to know? I left the tribe so I wouldn't hurt anyone else and maybe I could use the fury to strike down the tribes enemies. It's always there, at least this way it could do some good. I thought if I could defeat the Goblin King alone that would prove I didn't need anyone but I was wrong and not strong enough.....I can see that now. There has been twice that Proteus' has leapt in the way and I could see it all happening again.....the last time with Rana I didn't even realize I had thrown him to the side until it was over.......don't you see?......It could happen again. I don't know if I could bear it." She sags as the story finishes.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Proteus motions to Sandros and then walks away from Ka'kara and Royl.

Spoiler:

"She does not appear to be suffering any mental defect that seems clear to me. I do not wish to force anyone to stay with us, but I think we should try to convince her that we do not fear her rage. I am assuming it is her rage of which she is speaking."

Just figuring I'd put something in here that gives her and Royl their privacy.

Roylenna motions for the woman to sit on the floor so she can hear her out and look her in the eyes. As she listens, tears come to her eyes and run down her cheeks, but she says nothing until the tribeswoman's story ends and her shoulders sag. The halfling pulls Ka'kara's head against her shoulder and speaks to her in low tones.

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
"Ka'kara. You said it yourself. How could you have known? Liri did not tell you, you could not have known. But you must understand - your rage is not why you struck out at the man - it was your love for your friend. Love is not evil, but it can cloud our judgment. Liri did not confide in you out of love for the man, I would wager. You sought to protect her, out of love for her. Who would have thought that she did not want that protection from her sister-friend?

"Your rage is not at fault anymore than the tree branch was. Do not fear your rage - it is a weapon more powerful than your greatsword - you must learn to control it, to wield it and not let it wield you. And I think you have begun to do that. You did not strike Proteus - even in your rage, you merely moved him aside on the road. You did not kill Rana - even in your rage, you maintained the control to not strike the killing blow, even when you might have cleaved his head from his shoulders. You did not kill Vladoff, even when he had nearly killed you.

"No, it is not your rage you should fear, it is action without thought that is to be feared. You must take a moment to consider what you see, what you hear, what you know, before acting. It is far different to stalk into the hostile lair of goblins than to be surprised by something you did not expect. When you are surprised, think before attacking."

The tiny woman takes the taller one's chin and raises her head so they are looking into one another's eyes. In a very serious manner, she continues.

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
"Your rage no longer controls you, Ka'kara. Your grief is understandable, but your guilt has overstayed its welcome. Let us meet this challenge as friends, side by side, and then on to other challenges down the road. One day, you will find a way to honor Liri and show her what she meant to you - what she still means to you. Do not needlessly throw your life away trying to prove yourself a one-woman army - she would not have wanted that before that night, and she does not want it now.

Wow - what that too heavy-handed? Should I have made a roll for that speech?

Roylenna stops speaking and waits for the barbarian's response.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Lenna:

Spoiler:
Ka'kara listens and it becomes apparent to Lenna just how very young a woman she is. Lenna's six additional years seem a lifetime of experience between them. She absorbs Lenna's words. After she left the tribe she has been entirely on her own in this strange and alien "civilized" world. Ka'kara gathers herself a bit, "I'm sorry. I'll try to do better. I thought I would always have to be on my own." This last said with uncertainty still in her voice but these things take time. She grabs Lenna up in a crushing hug and manages a fleeting smile, "Let's go show that Goblin King who's boss." Lenna now finds herself covered in Ka'kara's blood and goblin gore. The barbarian stands very unsteadily and hefts back up the battering ram apparently ready to continue healing or no.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I guess you're ready to go on, but Ka'kara sure could use some healing.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Once Royl assures Proteus that Ka'kara isn't going to run off like a crazy person again, Proteus moves beside Ka'kara. "Vitae," Proteus chants healing Ka'kara (1d6=1). He then chants again healing Ka'kara again (1d6=4). He chants once again, healing Ka'kara again(1d6=3).

He then chants "Curatio minorus," healing Ka'kara (1d8+2=8) again.

That's all I can afford if we are going into combat. That should give you a total of 16 additional hitpoints. I don't know if Sandros took any damage, but he has 8 hp available if he lost any.

Sandros is unwounded.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Proteus quickly discusses his idea for tactics when moving into the Goblin King's area.

"Alright, I can cast three spells that will last long enough for us to move into the area. Those are bless, magic weapon, and guidance. I think that I should cast guidance on Ka'kara to help her if she needs to open the door, cast magic weapon on Sandros blade, and then cast bless for the benefit of the group and then we rush the place together." He places emphasis on the word "together" and looks at Ka'kara.

"I will only have the ability to channel energy three times more when we go into combat. Does that work for everyone?"

Black Tom

Spoiler:

Proteus will also use Comprehend Languages on himself so he can understand any tactical discussion between the enemies.

Sandros nods, a little surprised by the gentle priest's tactical prowess. "A sound suggestion," he says. "Though perhaps Royl and Hella would prefer not to 'rush' them along with us."

Note that the ram needs to be used by two people for optimum efficiency. The second person doesn't need to make a check to grant a +2 bonus, so his or her strength is immaterial.

Perhaps Proteus? Leaving two fighters completely free?

Did Ka'kara end up with that CMW potion? Last I heard she had. May become important later.
