I hope it's not the same old guys...again!

I'd like a little variety... although Depp as the Riddler would be interesting.

Only if he plays him more like Willy Wonka and less like Jack Sparrow.

Hells no, more like Sweeney Todd: Batman, the Musical!

Haven't seen Sweeny but the previews I've seen make him seem more like the Joker than the Riddler.

Regarding the fate of Two-Face in Dark Knight:

Spoiler:
It was already established earlier in the movie - when Batman threw Maroni off a building - that one could survive such a fall.

So there is hope that Two-Face could return in a later movie.

True, I had forgotten about that. That said, what do you guys and gals think about the rumor that Maggie Gyylenhaal is being looked at to play Catwomen? It could be a cool twist and a great nod to the Earth-2 stories of the 60's and 70's where Batman and Catwomen were married.

Is there more than one Catwoman? However many, I'd really hate to see the role go to Jolie, Berry, or any of those steroetypical "ooh, she's so hawt" actresses. Give it to someone fairly attractive, but also athletic, and a lot less well-known. Zoe Bell, maybe? You'd sure save on stunt doubles that way... (Sorry, had to slip that one in there.)

Only 1 question.

How did Dark Knight get its rating?

I'm not sure where you're going with this ... as far as I recollect, the Earth-2 Catwoman started off like the Silver/early Modern Age Catwoman did on Earth-1, which is to say: she became a cat burglar when her abusive rich ex-husband refused to return her property, and afterwards she then decided to make a living that way.

More to the point,

Spoiler:
Why would Maggie Gyllenhaal return in the next movie when her character had died in Dark Knight? Unless we're looking at the "did we actually see an extremely dead body" issue which crops up in comics? (Considering my thoughts about Two-Face's death, maybe that's not too far out a thought.)

Hmm ... maybe the actress comes back as a Catwoman who happens to look like Bruce's childhood friend? That could really mess him up!

Thanks for the link, I think going for both Penguin and Riddler would be a great way to go. Throwing both these characters into the mix would be a great chaotic situation for Gotham, especially if they were rivals.

I loved Dark Knight, especially the storyline and the portrayal of Harvey Dent.

I love Batman Begins as well and have watched it many times.

One very satisfied customer here.

Well, Maude Adams played TWO different Bond girls, both of them in different Roger Moore movies (The Man with the Golden Gun and Octopussy, I think), but no one assumed she was the same character... or even thought twice about it.

The Exchange

After reading this thread I had high expectations. I finally saw it this past weekend and my reaction - meh.

pros

Heath Ledger deserves a posthumous oscar. His performance was amazing. Christian Bale is also excellent but compared to Batman Begins he was given no real character development to play with.

cons

The movie was way too long. It really felt like it was being stretched out. There were moments when I thought it was about to end and then didn't. This would have made a great two-parter.

The music bugged me. It was far too bombastic when it did not need to be.

Batman's voice just does not do it for me. I get why they are doing it that way but it so seriously limits the character's ability to show a wider range of emotion.

No character development. Batman Begins was about a journey and this one is just about a fight - a 2.5+ hour fight.

Very little character chemistry. As much as Katie Holmes bugged me in Batman Begins, she convinced me of the deep connection between Batman and Rachel. The new Rachel? meh. And as brilliant as Heath Ledger was as the Joker, I missed the chemistry between Liam Neeson and Christian Bale from Batman Begins.

Overall this leads to a solid - meh - rating form me. I was hoping for more Batman Begins but it seems this incarnation of the franchise is heading the way of Spiderman - each movie is worse than the one before it yet earns more money thus insuring the mediocrity of the next installment.

Just seen it at last, and f*** me it's brilliant! If there's anyone reading this who still hasn't seen it, go and see it! Now!

I didn't know what chaotic evil was until I saw Heath Ledger's Joker. Every character in it is well acted, well thought out. It makes sense, it actually made me think.

Wow.

I thought it was pretty good, but it scared me to death. I really like how they made it scary without showing all the gross blood and gore stuff. All of the violence happened in your imagination, which I thought made it even more scary. It was kind of Hitchcock-ish in a way.
