I'm not sure if my current campaign will end in time. :,( We've been on the first combat encounter for two weeks now. You might need to replace me. Do you know if I can play a pregen and apply the credit and boons to Alice 002? Or does Alice 002 have to currently not be in any games? Player name: Carol S
Round 3: Asier gives a shudder as he remembers the few times he'd been in the engineer's seat. "The board is turned on, right? And you didn't take it apart and forget something accidentally? And you've made sure to install the latest version?..." The android starts to list of what sounds like a list of things he's encountered personally. Annoyed, Alice 002 responds "Of course the board is turned on. My protocol software is not faulty." If she were any other lifeform, her response would have come out clipped, but her voice and face are emotionless and robotic as ever. Alice 002 attempts to divert power to the weapon systems again.
Alice 002 listens with excitement. New lifeforms! "What are they saying? Is it a distress signal for help?" Alice 002 asks in a robotic monotone voice.
"Oh. Look, the satellite." Alice 002 points to the hemispheric vessel approaching the Sunrise Maiden. "It appears to be automated. No lifeforms are present." Alice 002 stands from one of the console chairs, "I will proceed to the engineering bay."
Conclusion of conversation with Asier:
”I once accessed an ancient record about a creature called a MIMIC.” Alice 002’s mechanical eyes stare at nothing in particular as she accesses her execortex. ”Recalling story archive: THE BARKEEPER ASKED WHY WE CARRIED WEAPONS ON US IN THE BAR. I SAID “MIMICS.” THE BARKEEPER LAUGHED, THE PARTY LAUGHED, THE TABLE LAUGHED, WE KILLED THE TABLE. ITS WAS A GOOD TIME. A creature that disguises itself as inanimate objects.”
Asier listens to her response as he sets up the projector worked into the shoulder of his outfit. Outdated parts, Alice 002 observes the other android. Albans raises an eyebrow at Fitch. "Dare I ask what happened on E-Deck? Perhaps you can tell me on our way through the drift." ”We rescued two children. A shipping container broke, releasing a dormant lifeform. The creature buried itself in the ship’s hull and we had to dig it out... Lots of teeth.” Alice 002 recalls in a monotone voice.
Alice 002 discusses with her companions: ”I find the slimmer look of the Pegasus pleasing. Some lifeforms believe red makes ships travel faster.” Alice 002’s mechanical eyes focus and adjust like a camera lens. ”My exocortex has calculated the Pegasus system has a higher chance of success at disabling the orbiting laser… unless we want to handle the satellite the ‘vesk way?’” Alice 002 turns her entire body to face the Drake, examining the various weapons. "Madrigal, Eli. It is... 'nice,' that is the most appropriate word for the moment, is it not?" His eyes seem to lose focus for a second, before he gives a nod. "Thank-you Suzuta. It is, with a 84% likelihood, 'nice' to see you again! Has anything happened to you since I last saw you? Are we going on a mission together again?" Unaware, a smile creeps onto his face. Alice 002 turns to face the other android, her head remaining parallel to the rest of her body. ”Your exocortex includes a calculator for social success?” Alice 002 questions emotionlessly. ”Mine was overwritten by a combat statistics log. I am sad.” Alice 002 stares blankly at Asier-23-7 as she morns over the loss of data. Then, as if to change the subject: ”I have a 100 percent success rate with ALBANS, MADRIGAL SERAPHINE, EILIDH HALBI SCONE. We met all the parameters of our last mission.” "I do like their music! It's interesting how much they can vary the tempo in such a short amount of time, isn't it?" ”Yes. That is true. I find our similarly aligned interests pleasing.” Blank-faced, Alice 002’s internal emotions bubble with happiness. ” Veskmobile? What is that?" Staring at nothing in particular while she accesses a file, Alice 002 defines: ”A VESKMOBILE is what vesk call mining carts.” Alice 002 returns her attention to Asier. The android’s voice, consistently devoid of emotion, continues: ”I am ecstatic to be on a mission with another android. I cannot wait to exchange information.” Alice 002 pauses so the other android has time to respond. ”I have recording of two vesk named HAKRINAG OF THE BONECRUSHER FAMILY and HUDATHAN SWARMBAIT if you wish to copy my data. I was instructed by HAKRINAG OF THE BONECRUSHER FAMILY to LEARN A THING OR TWO. Did you know vesk give names to inanimate objects? It is also important to avoid bull vesk during a double fullmoon after the Winter Solstice.” ”May I ask you a personal question, ASIER. Dash. Twenty-three. Dash. Seven?” Alice 002’s faintly-glowing red eyes adjust and focus on Asier’s face. ”What is your favorite lifeform you have encountered?”
Asier, you sure? Lol I noticed you have a +9 in Engineering and Computers! +5 to Gunnery is nice tho. Alice 002 has a +10 in Engineering and Computers, so it doesn't matter which role she takes (Engineering or Science Officer.) Buuuut, since Albans has a +9 in Computers and a +8 in Engineering, I recommend having Albans as the Science Officer and Alice as the Engineering Officer. I have no personal preference over Alice's starship role.
An android with shoulder-length blonde curls and red mechanical eyes steps away from the wall. ”VENTURE-CAPTAIN ARVIN, do I have permission to disable the laser on the orbiting satellite?” Her tone doesn't hold any emotion. ”Or does that go against protocol?” Lifeforms on planet ELYTRIO If Alice 002 had a heart, it would be pumping with excitement over the idea of meeting new lifeforms. Disappointed, Alice 002 promises: ”I will refrain from taking lifeforms back on the ship.”
Alice 002 quickly approaches Talbot's dying body and whips a cloth handkerchief from her pocket and presses it against the largest wound. "This is unfortunate," the android comments in her monotone voice. "You over-calculated your strength. I suggest you reduce your accuracy by 24 percent next time."
Alice 002 has her laser pistol drawn as her mechanical eyes scan the length of the left passageway.
Quietly, in her usual flat and emotionless voice, Alice 002 whispers: "My components lack stealth. I am not equip to approach the targets in question." Alice 002's red eyes focus on each of her companions as if she's awaiting instruction.
Alice 002 examines the sight before them. She takes longer than the others and ultimately offers little that wasn't known already. "From my assessment, Talbot has been mining and carting unrefined thasteron to be shipped out by a transport vehicle." The android approaches Hakrinag from behind and peers over the vesk's shoulder. "Let me try. I have downloaded protocol for this."
Alice picks up the engineering specialty tool kit and examines the contents.
“Intruders! We know you’ve come to Tasch in search of our savior. I give you this one chance. Lay down your weapons and leave our town. You will not disrupt the salvation of Akiton, not when Reynald Talbot has come so close to saving our world! You have one minute to decide.”
Alice 002 has trouble understanding why the lifeforms outside are threatening them. As Madrigal attempts to negotiate, Alice 002 moves to crouch behind a table. One knee rests on the floor while the other leg is bent to cradle her elbow. The android pulls out her laser rifle and aims it at the door.
Her red mechanical eyes whirl in and out of focus as her exocortex searches for a foe to initiate combat tracking on. Lastly, Alice 002 prepares to shoot the first aggressive lifeform that enters the building.
Alice 002's red mechanical eyes watch the shirren and his entourage exit the bar. As the door swings shut, the android turns towards Madrigal and approaches. "I acquired Talbot's location from a human named Bear. I am ready to proceed." Alice 002 stands as still a statue, blinking at 15 second intervals. When the party heads towards the door, Alice 002 follows.
Alice 002 offers Thron one of her awkward smiles that fails to reach her mechanical eyes. "Thank you, The Bear. You are very generous." Pleased with the outcome of their conversation, Alice 002 continues to stand motionless at the bar. The android turns from Thron to watch Madrigal from afar once more. I'll inform the others after they finish their conversation.
The burly man near to you is nursing a long cold beer. He turns and looks at you with interest. "You fellas new in town? Welcome, welcome! Name's Thron, but me friends call me the Bear! Muahaha!" He holds out his hand in greeting. Under normal circumstances, Alice 002 would immediately turn to “The Bear” and question him about the meaning of his name. She’d point out that he was human and not an 800 pound mammal that hibernates in a cave… unless he did hibernate. The ysoki bartender serving the man at the other end of the bar calls out good naturedly, "Yeah, eats, sleeps and s**** like one, too!" With her suspicions confirmed the android, Alice 002, continues to stare in Madrigal’s direction. Emotionlessly, Alice 002 responds to the ysoki bartender. ”I do not require sustenance, but I find your demeanor and hospitality above satisfactory.” Without leaning against bar, Alice’s back faces the bartender and the shelves holding containers of ale. The android listens as Eli and Albans speak to the locals(?) "Yeah we arrived yesterday. Tell me about this mysterious benefactor of ours. Stuff doesn't tend to be free. Especially not here, from what I've heard." Thron eventually brings himself under control. "Not me. I volunteered to lead him to the nearest mine. And it was amazing. Helped him excavate some of the thasteron. Hard work, it was. But well-rewarded. Well-rewarded. I saw! I was the first to see! I do not know by what means he did it, but he transmuted the ore! Into precious liquid gold!" Alice 002 turns her entire body to face the Bear. ”This planet still has resources to mine? Meeting this Talbot lifeform would make me happy.”
The android's mechanical red eyes adjust to focus on the vesk's face. Not quite getting the point, Alice 002 responds: "I do not greet all androids I see. That would be impractical." Blank expression, Alice 002 continues to stare at Hakrinag as he explains vesk culture. The android waits ten seconds after Hakrinag stops talking before responding: "I have noted your data. I will be sure to avoid bull vesk during a double fullmoon after the Winter Solstice." Alice 002 turns so her head and body are perfectly perpendicular to each other, observing Madrigal across the room.
"I detect lifeforms differing from the current clientele. A shirren and two vesk. I sense they are displeased." Alice 002 turns robotically to Hakrinag: "HAKRINAG OF THE BONECRUSHER FAMILY, are you not interested in the other vesk?" Alice 002 isn't really making her conversation a secret. Alice 002 turns to her other companion at the bar: "HUDATHAN SWARMBAIT, look. There are two creatures similar to yourself. Is it not customary for you to go and share greeting unique to your kind?" Alice 002 stares expressionless between Hudathan and Hakringag, utterly confused. He looks over at Hakrinag and gives the traditional greeting of one Vesk to another. Alice 002 stands next to her companion vesk, waiting for a response.
"Would you like me to assist you?" Alice 002's emotionless red eyes stare at Madrigal, then Albans.
Alice 002 accesses the data terminal with her custom rig. Her eyes stare forward, looking at nothing in particular as she searches. "WOULD YOU LIKE TO ORDER TAKE-OUT FROM DIGGER'S DIVE? SAY YES TO HEAR MENU OR SAY NO TO END CALL." Alice 002 breaks from her trace-like state. "My apologizes, I think I accessed the wrong computer." Alice 002 is the fourth party member to agree and raises a hand to her chest, "My system is incapable of digestion, but the menu sounds intriguing. Perhaps we should visit the establishment of DIGGER'S DIVE."
"Wasn't he a she? Humans mix me up with their fur-not-fur hair and all that nonsense. Vesk are easy, females have bright colors, males don't. You can tell on sight! Convenient, eh?" Hakrinag continues on for a while about the ways Vesk are simply superior to humans, missing several social cues to stop talking in his fervor. Alice 002 bends over to examine the datapad Eli’s working on. Is the lifeform male? Alice 002’s eyes adjust and focus on the bust of Talbot. ”I am projecting a 68 percent certainty the lifeform is male.” Alice 002 turns her emotionless face towards Eli, ”A hologram of the lifeform’s entire form is needed for more detailed analysis.” Hudathan frowns. You can practically see him struggling to think this problem through. "The Corp moved a lot of money here recently to buy Drift fuel. But as we know, there ain't drift fuel on this god-forsaken hell hole. I wonder if that artifact has more capabilities than just pretending that lead is good. " ”Talbot visited a shopkeeper asking about different types of engine fuels. Specifically, drift fuels. ALBANS, why would Talbot ask about drift fuel if plans on using it as a money laundering cover? Perhaps the lifeform is stuck on this planet from a lack of drift fuel.”
The android focuses her daze out the window, examining the structures outside. ”My fellow companions, I have detected grammatical errors on the art outside. ‘Get Out! The Planet Is Broken!’” Pleased with her explanation, Alice 002 stares expressionless at the others as they disembark the vessel. "If the planet is broken, perhaps we can fix it."
Alice 002 approaches the first lifeform she sees outside of the ship: ”Excuse me, your graffiti sign has grammatical errors. I was not confused, but other visitors might be.” Alice 002 follows Madrigal to aid in questioning the life living on Akiton. I will set my parameters to blink every 15 seconds to appear more personable.
----- After assisting Madrigal for a while Alice 002 conducts some exploring on her own. Alice 002 finds a scrap/junk parts shop and enters. In her monotone voice, she announces: "Greetings. I am Alice. Zero. Zero. Two." "I saw your sign: Git out. Planet's broke. Perhaps I can provide assistance."
Expressionless, Alice 002 turns to examine something behind the counter. "A broken solar converter." Alice 002 pulls the energy collector off the wall to examine it. "The middle panel's wiring is short circuiting the top and bottom. Do you want me to repair it?" Alice 002 pesters(?) the shopkeeper by performing repairs on the junk parts while providing stiff small-talk. "Have you heard of Strawberry Machine Cake, a sugar-pop sensation?" "You may have not noticed because of my skin and blonde curls, but I am actually an android." Alice 002 continues to blink her faintly glowing red eyes at 15 second intervals. "I was sent here by the Starfinder Society to find a stone." Alice 002 turns over her right hand to show the shopkeeper the glowing mark on her palm, marking her as a field agent. "A lifeform named Talbot last had the stone. Talbot landed in Maro before we lost contact." Alice 002 hands over another repaired item. "Have you heard of someone named Talbot?"
Alice 002’s frame remains stable despite Hudathan’s mighty blows. ”Your gun has a name?” Alice 002 focuses her mechanical eyes on Hudathan’s weapon and extends a hand in greeting: ”Hello LUCY. I am Alice. Zero Zero. Two.” Alice returns her expressionless face to meet Hudathan’s. ”I do not understand. Why do you name inanimate objects?” Alice 002 addresses the other vesk: "I have a recording capabilities in my visual receptors and audio jacks. I will create a combat log of you on my secondary memory slot, HAKRINAG OF THE BONECRUSHER FAMILY to LEARN A THING OR TWO." Historia-7 will be pleased. ----
I will use a common hand gesture as a sign of my understanding of the mission. ”We will retrieve the CHARLATAN’S STONE for you, VENTURE-CAPTAIN ARVIN.” Alice curls her left hand into a thumbs up and her mouth turns upward into a smile. Alice 002 stares unblinking, face expressionless except for her incongruous smile.
Alice 002's smile is disconcerting.
