Clockwork in Paizo?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hey everyone,

I'm new to Pathfinder (as in I don't have any books yet) but I've been around the boards since the release of Alpha 2 of the Pathfinder RPG. I'm planning on making the switch when Beta comes out.

One question I had is what roll, if any, does clockwork inventions play in pathfinder? Is there any books that people would recommend?

Thanks!

Clockwork objects and creatures do show up now and then in Pathfinder products; the ancient empire of Thassilon certainly had some clockwork creatures in it that served as servants and guardians for the rich and powerful. There's not a LOT of clockwork stuff though... at least, not yet, there's not.

If/when we do more clockwork stuff, though, we'll probably use the various Tome of Horrors books and the Advanced Bestiary as a starting point.

I do like clockwork critters and machines. It gives things a little sense of being different, not just the same old same old. That there is a sense of progress or change and the world is not stagnant.

Now if we can just have an arcane-nuclear-clockwork-powered construct :)

How about a Clockwerk Dynamo Lightning Gun for your Drow shocktroops?

Anyone here see the latest Hellboy flick? I'd love to see the Golden Army warriors statted out. Clockwork golems who self mend and contain fire elementals? Maybe?

I just looked at them as Iron Golems (or maybe even Adamantine) without the breath weapon and with the Tarrasque's regeneration (all). That'll be 4900 Wishes to put the entire legion to rest.

The whole clockwork thing seems to be a flavor thing, not an inherent part of their stats.

I was planning on using Inevitables (Maruts maybe) and giving them the lich template, and giving them all a shared phylactery, but changing the reappear time after "death" from 1d10 days to d10 minutes.

There is a clockwork creature template in Advanced Bestiary that's quite fun. I made a legendary clockwork bear with it.

If you're looking for somewhere clockwork creatures might be found:

Guide to Korvosa - M8. Mr Pestico's Dolls and Figurines.

The description doesn't mention clockworks specifically, but it wouldn't be too much of a stretch of the imagination for some to be found there.

No stats are given, but you could borrow/alter stats from other sources, eg various MMs, bestiaries, sourcebooks etc.

It's a starting point, and could make for an interesting urban mystery, investigation, plot, series of encounters etc.

If you want the stats for those dolls, check out Pathfinder #7, under Soulbound Doll.
