Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII

Video Games

Some of you might have heard of this upcoming game before, but it's news to me.

The following address gives some details:
http://tech.uk.msn.com/gaming/article.aspx?cp-documentid=8401681

It's for the PSP, so I'll be missing out on it. :-(

It seems that it's a prequel to FF7, and in it you play Zack (you don't run a party). It also uses a real-time combat system, so in that respect it's like FF7- Dirge of Cerberus, I guess.

Got it, haven't had time to start on it yet, but looks good. Still working on Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (for old times' sake).

Old, smchmold. FFT and FFTWOTL are the greatest games of their type ot ever grace a home system. They are still the closest anyone has ever come to making a D&D 3.0 style TRPG.

True. I'm running around trying to annoy monsters with Agrias and Mustadio while letting the other characters use Focus and Tailwind to pile up job points. I'm about to finish Chapter 3, so I want to be able to cheese Wiegraf and the assassins with ridiculous levels and whatnot.

I've played it and beaten it. It is definately a prequel to 7 and it gives a lot of depth to the already deep story that was 7. I likened the gameplay more to Kingdom Hearts than Dirge of Cerberus. Very cool story and the nice graphics for the psp reminded me of ps2 graphics. The combat system is pretty simplistic and the experience/overdrive system can get annoying if your used to most ff games. My one hope after playing it is that maybe they'll do a remake of FF7 on PSP, as after playing through this game I had the urge to replay the original but my eyes weep when I look at the graphics in 7.

Ah to be young! I started playing video games on the Apple IIc, and my 1st platform was my friend's Atari 5600. The 1st I owned was a Nintendo.

But I understand what you mean about the graphics of FF7. A great leap forward at the time, but now? Not so much.

Not as young as you think... ;p I started out gaming on the Atari 2600 myself, and I do remember being awed by ff7's graphics when it first came out. I still enjoy replaying some older games like ff4(2 in the us), ff6(3 in the us), and Chrono Trigger, but 7, now because of the early 3d rendering actualy looks worse than those old snes games to me.

I agree. That's why I replay them on other platforms (PS1, GBA, etc.) instead of replaying FF7. That, and I DON'T want to fight Ruby Weapon again;)

Thanks for the replies, all!

Some specific points:
I’ve never even heard of FFT: WotL! LOL!
While FF7 does look a bit clunky now, I played through it last week; the music’s still fun to hear, and it’s still a fun game to play. Unlike most of the Square/Enix stuff, IMO. FFX and the follow-up games seem a chore to complete compared to FF9 and earlier games, with their endless random encounters (more than before), endless exposition, and I dislike the real-time combat format in the more recent FFs. Dirge of Cerberus was mildly diverting, but I’d have preferred something more like FF7 than an FPS.

As to “My one hope after playing it is that maybe they'll do a remake of FF7 on PSP”, at the end of the article they refer to current ongoing projects, such as FF8 spin-offs and so on, and the unlikelihood of an FF7 remake (for the near future, at least).

There have been rumors flying around about Square doing a remake for the PS3. So far no ones confirmed or denied it. The closest response was "We'd only do it if we could get the orginal team back. That would have to wait since everyone is busy working in Final Fantasy XIII"
