Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Larkspring passes through the gate and begins to walk towards the supply house. On his way he looks in the windows of the guard house, the clerk, and the garrison. Fir follows on his heels.

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

"I am beginning to have an unpleasant feeling about all of this," Triska mutters. "It's too quiet. Perhaps we should scout this warehouse before joining Fir on the bridge." Triska warily heads towards the stairs to the warehouse next to the well.

Liberty's Edge

Orelan and Sabriel hang by the well for a few moments while Triska heads to the guest quarters and takes a look around the building. She sees obvious signs of battle but again only blood splatter and foot prints. Larkspring and Fir now out of sight of the rest of the group begin to walk onto the bridge but come under imediate fire from somewhere on the bridge.....

Larkspring, roll spot check to see if you are surprised or not. Roll init and state your actions!

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Spot check: 1d20+3=17.
Initiative: Larkspring: 1d20+2=22. Fir: 1d20+1=4.
Larkspring casts bear's endurance upon himself as soon as he gets the chance. Due to their bond, Fir gains the +4 bonus to Constitution for four minutes as well.
Fir's new Constitution: 19 (+6 bonus hp, gone in 4 minutes, new max hp=36, current 31).
Larkspring's new Constitution: 19 (+8 bonus hp, gone in 4 minutes, new max hp=48, current 48).
Larkspring is now on the square just south of the alley between the guard house and toll booth. Directly behind him is Fir.

As soon as he realizes that they're under attack, Larkspring shouts, "Gors minnir brock!", and seems to become stodgy and large. Fir's hair bristles and he lets loose a guttural roar, then charges at wherever the arrow came from. (not actually charging, due to surprise round, just moving) Do you want me to roll listen checks and a spot for Fir? Because Larkspring's listen is really good.

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

I'm sure Triska will fire back as soon as she has an idea what's happening - who's attacking them, where are they, etc.

Spot (1d20+8=15) (+2 if it's humans)

Initiative (1d20+7=10)

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Listen Check. (1d20+2=11)
Initiative. (1d20+2=5)
Seeing Triska suddenly draw her weapons, Sabriel tries to hear what could be happening.
She turns towards the gate, racing over to Triska and drawing her Rod as she goes, she says "what's going on?"

Liberty's Edge

Larkspring stops in his tracks as he sees two persons pop out of hiding and fire upon him. He dashes for cover between two buildings all the while speaking arcane words giving him added power to deal with this new threat. Triska and Sabriel hear the gnomes yell and run over to the gate in time to hear Fir's roar and see him moving in the direction of the station houses doorway where stands someone.

Larkspring only knows about the enemy on the roof of the officer's quarters, everyone else sees the someone in the doorway at the station house.

Init order:
Larkspring
Enemy
Triska
Sabriel
Fir
Orelan???

First Round-Begin!

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Larkspring runs for cover between the two buildings (five-foot step). He says something in a hoarse whisper which the others cannot hear, but it does not sound like any language they know. Outside, Fir's tendons stand out in his legs, and his back ripples with muscle. Larkspring then draws his sling. He needs to remove his shield, though to load it. Fir rushes the person in the doorway.
Larkspring: Free action to move to cover from both attackers, standard to cast bull's strength which lasts 4 minutes (bear's endurance lasts 3 minutes and 54 seconds more), move to draw sling.
Fir: Charges to attack the person in the doorway, 45 feet, +2 attack with claw, -2 AC until next turn (so current 11). Claw 1d20+8=20, 1d4+4=5.

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

What's the range to the doorway, and can Triska tell if they're human? Both will affect Triska's attack & damage bonuses.

Liberty's Edge

Triska, each square on the map says it is 5 feet so it looks to be about 50 feet away from your position at the gate.

Liberty's Edge

Standing in the little alley way Larkspring speaks some arcane words which increase the little ones strengh for the coming fight. Two arrows streak out from the enemy's positions striking Fir in the shoulder and right leg causing him to roar in pain.(8 hps dam) He shakes off the pain somehow in his rage and charges the nearest attacker standing at the doorway of the station house. His massive paw swings out and connects with the creature leaving large rips across its skin tearing it open.

Triska, Sabriel and Orelan's turn for this round yet. And I forgot, Triska the creatures appear to be human like but aren't, they have elven features.

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Sabriel sees the figure in the doorway fire at Fir and whips her Rod up, sending a blast of Arcane Energy coursing through it. It streaks out towards the figure and impacts into the door frame by his head.
Eldritch Spear (Ranged Touch Attack; 250' Range). (1d20+4=12)

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

Triska pulls back her bow and looses an arrow, then curses as the shot flies wide. Attack (1d20+8=9); Damage (1d8+3=4) She ducks behind one of the gates to gain some cover against any return attacks.

Liberty's Edge

Both Triska and Sabriel step out of cover of the gate and make attacks against the attacker holding the bridge. Unfortunately for them they both miss the mark as they hide behind cover.

Orelan turn but go ahead and post your next actions so we can keep moving along.

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Larkspring removes his shield and loads his sling. Fir, enraged at being wounded, attacks the elven creature in the doorway again. Larkspring shouts at the elves, "What do you want?!? Why are you attacking us? Stop attacking me and my friends, and my bear will not fight you!" in the hopes of parlay.
[ooc]Larkspring: Remove and drop shield (move action), load sling (move action).
Fir: Full attack action: Claw 1d20+8=18, 1d4+6=10; claw 1d20+8=18, 1d4+6=7; bite 1d20+3=8, 1d6+3=5.
For Zoom:

Spoiler:
Larkspring's bear's endurance lasts for 3 minutes and 48 more seconds, while the bull's strength spell lasts for 3 minutes and 54 more seconds. Fir now has 23 out of 36 hit points (when the spell is over he will have 17 out of 30 hp). He has Strength 23, which gives his claw attacks a +8 to hit and 1d4+6 damage, and his bite has a +3 to hit and 1d6+3 damage (halve the Strength bonus for secondary attacks). Fir no longer has the minus to defence from charging.

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

Triska runs forward to the corner of the garrison and fires another arrow at the figure in the doorway, using the corner for cover.
Attack (point blank) (1d20+9=19); Damage (1d8+4=8)

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Sabriel follows triska's lead and moves to the opposite corner from her (the corner of the Guardhouse) and raises both arms, throwing them towards the elf as a ray of fire shoots towards him.
Fiery Gaze (Ranged Touch Attack). (1d20+4=16) Depending on how close he is there may be another +1 to that roll if he is within 30'.
Fiery Gaze Damage. (4d6=10)

Larkspring Irellion wrote:

Yeah but there's no Map Reference #s around the outer edge, so we can only give a description of where we are, not an exact Grid Reference location.

Liberty's Edge

Larkspring shouts out as he gets ready to fight; "What do you want?!? Why are you attacking us? Stop attacking me and my friends, and my bear will not fight you!" in the hopes of parlay. He recieves no answer from the attackers. While Larkspring is shouting the elves attack the bear being the only target visible to them at the moment. The elf by the door thrusts out with his spear but somehow misses the large bear in front of him. He steps into the doorway to try and get some cover from the bear. His friend atop the officers quarters takes a shot but also barely misses, his arrow lodging itself in the wooden railing of the bridge. Triska races out after the elves attack and fires at the elf stepping back into the building hitting it in the shoulder as the elf disappears. She finishes her run taking cover behind the garrison. Right on the heels of Triska, Sabriel dashes out and into the little alley between the toll booth and the guardhouse where stands Larkspring. She shoots forth a ray of arcane energy at the elf in the doorway leaving a burning black spot on its chest, the elf reels in pain from the attacks not ready for two big paws full of deadly claws to maul him in the station house's doorway ending its life. Orelan moves up to the gate and peers around trying to see what's going on with his friends......

Next round!

Omfg postmonster =(
Larkspring moves about ten feet out from cover, and shoots at the elf with his sling. Fir moves into the station house, then charges towards the wall of the officers' quarters in an attempt to jump it.

Spoiler:
Larkspring moves ten feet "down" (move action), and shoots at the elf (standard action): 1d20+7=8, 1d3+2=3.
Fir moves ten feet into the station house, then twenty feet "up" to the wall of the officers' quarters, then tries to jump up to the roof. Jump check: 1d20+10=27. Bonuses are: moved twenty feet, +6 bonus from Strength, and +4 bonus from a 40-foot speed. He clears 10 3/4 feet (4 feet bonus from being a Medium quadruped). If this is enough to reach the roof edge, he tries to climb up. Climb check: 1d20+6=24 (manages to make it). Fir now has used up a move action (I'm assuming the roof is only about 10 feet high at the lip). If he can reach the elf, he attacks. (Let me know, and if he is I'll roll his attack and damage.)
Spell durations: Bear's endurance lasts 3 minutes and 42 seconds, while bull's strength lasts 3 minutes and 48 seconds.

Liberty's Edge

Larkspring emailed me a map of the station with coordinates on it which would make it easier for our game. Either he or I could email the map to you for ease of play! Orelan been missing for awhile so I might post for another player to join. His spot is still there if he want to continue to play which I hope he does even if we get a new player! What's everyone think? Go ahead and post your actions so we can keep this moving along!

Yeah, maybe you should try to get another player...

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Yes please send me the map, that would be great: flash_cxxi@hotmail.com
Another player sounds good.

Sabriel sees Ur take down the man and moves over to the bear, hoping to get a better view of their other attacker and to check that the man is in fact dead.

Spoiler:

Go to Ur's position in the doorway [Move Action].
Bend down and check the body to make sure it's dead and look around to see where the other attacker is. [Standard Action].

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

Triska stays where she is, looking carefully for anymore attackers.
Delay (attack if I see anyone); Spot (1d20+8=17)

Liberty's Edge

As Larkspring moves from out of cover an arrow comes flying in from further up the bridge hitting him in the shoulder(7 hps dam) but it does not stop his motion in his own attack at the elf on the roof of the officers quarters. The arrow does cause him problems though as his shot goes wide and over the building. The elf on the roof tries to shoot at the bear again, the arrow however lodges into the door frame. Triska sees the elf step out of the doorway of the smith's quarter that attacked Larkspring. She takes a shot(attack roll needed-at the edge of your range!) before the elf tries to step back into the building. While the elves are ingaged Sabriel quickly moves over to the elf laying on the ground at the station house's doorway. She bends down and checks the elf to see if he is truely dead or not. She can plainly see that the elf is no longer living. A moment later she see a bear shoot out of the station house and race straight for the officer's quarter. Fir jumps and grabs ahold of the roof's ledge and heaves himself up to the roof, growling at the elf.......

Next round, Triska gets her attack and then whatever she wishes to do for the next round. So I got Larkspring at q12, Fir at o17, Sabriel at r17 and Triska at r11 if I have follow everything right. Sabriel I sent you the map! Triska I need your email if you want the map with the coordinates!

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

Triska fires an arrow at the distant elf Attack (1d20+8=11), Damage (1d8+3=7) and curses again as she misses.

Next round:
Triska runs forward and into the station house through the door Fir just exited. Once inside, she looks for a way up to the roof to get a better vantage point on their attackers. If I see some stairs, I'll take a double move to try and get up them.

Spoiler:
Send the map to rob.mcc [at] gmail.com. Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Larkspring curses at the realization that he can't climb the wall or make the jump, being too small. Instead, he runs to Triska, inside the station house, and whispers a spell over her before grasping her elbow. "Keot sorze innir Triska sencha."
For Triska and Zoom:

Spoiler:
Larkspring runs into the station house, from Q12 to S18, full-round action. On his next turn, he casts cat's grace on her, standard action, then moves to Q15, move action, on his way back to his trusty shield.

Fir seems to grin at the elf, then charges him in an attempt to push him off the roof.
For Zoom:
Spoiler:
Fir charges at the elf, incorporating a bull rush attempt into the charge (full-round action): Charge, takes a -2 penalty to AC (current is 11 then), gains a +2 bonus on his bull rush attempt. Steps:
  • Move into the elf's square (What squares are the elves that we can see in? I assume Fir can see the other elf(ves) now that he is on the roof.).
  • Provoke attacks of opportunity (since the elves are attacking with bows, they probably won't get any attacks of opportunity unless they switch weapons).
  • Anyone other than the defender has a 25% chance of hitting the non-target in the bull rush.
  • Make opposed Strength checks: (+2 bonus from charging) 1d20+8=13.
  • If he succeeds versus the elf, then he pushes him back (I assume the elf is at M20, M19, M18, M17, N19, N20, O19, O20, O21, or O22, but if Fir doesn't have ten feet to move, then he can't charge and loses the +2 bonus, leaving his check at 11). For every five points higher than the elf's check, he pushes the elf back an additional five feet. If Fir fails, then he goes back five feet.

Next, Fir summons his energy and runs along the bridge, easily clearing the gap between the roof of the armory and the food and supplies building.
With a running start, he has a +14 to Jump, thanks to his Run feat (I forgot to factor this in earlier, but it makes no difference). He can make it without barely changing stride. (Wow, you'd never think bears were so good at jumping...) He has 200 feet of movement, so he makes the remaining jumps, hopping along like a child does on a fence. If there are any elves along his path, he stops and deals with them (just let me know where they are).
Omg this bear is so awesome...

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Oops, just realized that our (Fir's and Larkspring's) shared spells only work if we are within five feet of each other. Instead of backtracking to fix this, I suggest we just apply this to all spells Larkspring casts from now on. Anyhow, here's the spell durations that I forgot to add earlier:
Round of Fir's bull rush:

  • Larkspring's and Fir's bear's endurance lasts 3 minutes, 36 seconds.
  • Larkspring's and Fir's bull's strength lasts 3 minutes, 42 seconds.

Round of Larkspring casting cat's grace:
  • Larkspring's and Fir's bear's endurance lasts 3 minutes, 30 seconds.
  • Larkspring's and Fir's bull's strength lasts 3 minutes, 36 seconds.
  • Triska's cat's grace lasts 4 minutes.

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Seeing Fir jump onto the roof, she thinks that would be a good idea to get a better vantage of the area. She dashes inside the bulding behind her to see if she can find some stairs to take her onto the roof.
Enters the Station House behind her, looking for some stairs leading up. She will double move if she has to so that she can reach the roof and be able to better see the battle unfolding and know where the enemies are.
Spot Check (to look for enemies). (1d20+2=9)

Liberty's Edge

Seeing the elf in the distance Triska fires off a shot at it but the distance must be to great as the arrow skids along the bridge, the elf disappears into the building. Larkspring dashes into cover of the station house and waits for Triska as she runs in a few seconds behind him. As she is passing by him making her way to the stairs in the back of the building, he reaches out and touches her sending her a bit of his arcane might. She feels lighter on her feet as she makes her way up the stairs. Seeing the big bear crest the roof the elf steps back and fires off a round at the him hitting him in the shoulder(2 hps dam). The bear charges the elf who drops his bow and grabs his sprear, he quickly lashes out at the bear before it gets to close at strikes Fir in the fore leg(5 hps dam). The bear's giant paws try to get a hold of the elf but he somehow manages to push the paws to the side and escapes being crushed by the bear. Sabriel follows Triska up the stairs and finds a small room with a desk, over turned chairs and papers all over the floor. There is a door on the south wall of the room that seems to lead to a balcony over looking the river. The door is not locked and you both step out side onto the balcony. Both of you attempt to climb up onto the roof(both need to make climb checks!)

Elf in M18, Fir in O18, Larkspring at S18, Triska and Sabriel at V18 & 19. And you know one elf is in the smith's quarters building. Next Round! We got another player who will be joining us very soon! If Orelan still wants to play I would love for him to do so!!!

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Sabriel stows her Rod and attempts to climb from the balcony up onto the roof.
Climb Check. (1d20=9) Notice I said attempts... ;)

Liberty's Edge

Male. Forest gnome. Druid 4.

Fir unleashes his fury upon the elf with the spear.
Larkspring's already used up his actions for the round... so next round I'll post his actions.
Fir uses a full attack action (full-round action) to try to tear the elf to shreds: Claw 1d20+8=28 (automatic hit, see critical confirmation later), 1d4+6=7; claw 1d20+8=21, 1d4+6=9; bite 1d20+3=21, 1d6+3=7. First claw critical confirmation 1d20+8=20, 1d4+6=10, so total damage for first claw attack (if critical confirmation is successful) is 17, and with claw #2 and bite the total is a whopping 33 8).

Tegid, cautious at hearing the sounds of battle, whispers a brief prayer to Irori, surrounding himself with a shimmering field of energy and loads his crossbow before peering through the open gates.

Tegid casts Shield of Faith (+2 Deflection bonus to AC for 240 seconds) increasing his AC to 17 and loads his crossbow. He is standing at R8.

Liberty's Edge

The elf confronting the bear makes an attack knowing it might be his last. He lunges forward with his spear but again fails his fear getting the best of him. Triska easily climbs onto the roof and takes a moment to help Sabriel who is having trouble. Having gained the roof they both move to positions to help their friend and have a better shots at the enemy. Fir bats the spear aside and tears into the elf ending it's life, bits and pieces of the elf going in all directions. The new comer stands at the gate and sees a bear on top of the roof tearing a jungle elf apart, on the roof of the station house, two ladies who look like they can take care of themselves are moving into their own positions. He also sees three elves down at the other end of the bridge moving up towards them trying to gain closer positions and the ladies don't seem to have notice them yet..........

Back from camping and keen as Mustard!

Sabriel sees Fir take out the elf he is battling and then notices a newcomer down by the gate. He's not an elf like the other attackers, but that doesn't mean he's not with them. She nudges Triska and moves down the opposite end of the building closer to him, pulling out her Rod again as she goes the make sure if he attacks them she has a shot lined up.

Move to R14
Ranged crossbow attack against elf at R42. 1d20 (+2 BA, -2 range increment) = 14 (I forgot to add in my BA in the original roll)

Shield of Faith (+2 Deflection bonus to AC for 234 seconds) increasing his AC to 17.

Liberty's Edge

Larkspring runs as quickly as he can in his heavy gear into the shelter of the alley again.
For Zoom:

Spoiler:
Uses two move actions to make it to the alley. From Q15 to P10.

Spell durations:
Spoiler:
  • Larkspring's and Fir's bear's endurance: 3 minutes, 24 seconds.
  • Larkspring's and Fir's bull's strength: 3 minutes, 30 seconds.
  • Triska's cat's grace: 3 minutes, 54 seconds.

Fir moves to attack the closest elf he sees.
Are there any elves on the roofs? If so, he attacks them first. If there are none on the shingles, Fir hops down and attacks the closest elf. Let me know, and I'll post his actions (he's got a +10 Jump with bull's strength, and a +14 if he gets a running start).

Liberty's Edge

Larkspring dashes back into cover of the alley way across the bridge. He makes it there with no problems, no attacks come flying his way.

The three elves move up the bridge trying to gain shots at the bear who tore their brother apart. They take up positions in the merchant stalls and in the ally of the armoury-food store buildings. They try to melt into the buildings.

Triska follows Sabriel to the other edge of the building watching the new comer start to advance down the bridge.

The bear having just finished off the elf looks around for a new target but fails to see anyone on the roofs of its building or any others at the moment. A few seconds later everyone hears a new comer to the battle rush down the bridge and start shooting in the direction of the other end of the bridge. An elf just emerged from the other ends toll booth checking to see where his other brothers ran off too gets nicked by a bolt. He quickly jumps back into the safety of the building.

[ooc]Next round! Tegid roll damage on the elf, go ahead and roll att and dam for your action unless you miss real bad of course! It will keep the pace going faster. Elves locations are unsure to your pc's but the toll booth elf-S41. Tegid at R14, Lark at P10, Fir at O18, Sabriel and Triska at S18 and 19!

Liberty's Edge

Fir hops down from the roof and runs towards the toll booth.
From O18 to R32 (uses two move actions, both provoke melee attacks of opportunity). Has he seen any more elves?
Larkspring picks up his shield and puts it on once again.
A move action to pick it up (provokes attack of opportunity), and another move action to don. New armor class: 20, rather than 17.

Light crossbow damage (1d8=7)

Sorry, I thought that I had already included the damage.

Could I be any more stupid? Sabriel can Spider Climb...

Sabriel sees the man rushing down the bridge and braces herself to attack, but then sees him fire off a crossbow bolt at another elf at the end of the bridge. The elf ducks back into a building, so Sabriel spends a moment in contemplation and then hurries to the end of the roof, climbing easily down the outside and ducking into one of the Merchant Stalls so she has some cover.

* Activate Spider Climb Invocation.
* Move along the S line and down the side of the building, hiding in whichever stall she can make it too with her movement.

Sorry for the delay this week, I got laid off this week and have been focusing on looking for a job. My company did offer a position 2 steps lower than I was so it looks like I am going to have to take it since there is not much out there at the moment. Weird thing is the money will stay the same. Anyway I am going to post a little later today and hopefully give Triska and Tegid time to post their actions for this round!

Female Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2/Ranger 2

Sorry for the delays in posting, folks. Zoom, sorry to hear about the job - good luck!

Triska moves to the corner of the roof and targets any elf she can see, either in the merchant stalls below or the alley across the bridge.

Move to S-22; Attack (1d20+9=28); Damage (1d8+4=12)

Are the merchant stalls roofed? I.e., could Triska run across them to reach the ballista platform?

I am going to say the merchant stalls are covered but by cloth material which might or might not support Triska, we'll have to see won't we.... ;) The balista platform is also much higher than the merchant stall so she'd have to do some climbing!

Liberty's Edge

In the little alley way, Larkspring takes a moment of his time to get his shield ready for the move down the bridge towards more of the elves.

No sign of the elf who entered the toll booth. An elf peers around the corner of the armoury and fires at the exposed Tegid slicing him in the arm and the arrow continuing on to skid across the bridge behind him.(2 hps dam).

Triska moves to the corner of the station house and sees an elf in the alley of the armoury and the food stores buildings. It fires on the new comer and his him in the arm. Below she hears from the covered merchant stalls movement as she turns and fires on the elf across the way hitting it in the chest with one of her arrows. It staggers back deeper into the alley. The movement stops in the merchant stalls below you.

Sabriel rushes past Triska and easily climbs down the side of the building using magical means to help her. Once at the bottom and steps into the merchant stalls she spots two elves moving towards her through the stalls, over tables, through curtains used as wall between stalls and other litter with bows drawn at her.....

Fir bounces down off the roof and starts to run up the bridge towards the only elf he had seen so far until an arrow flashes past him and into an elf to his right. He also sees movement in the merchant stalls and Sabriel duck into them. He skids to a halt as his brains register there are more elves behind him now that his run took him to far and his friend might need his help.

Need Tegid's action for this round and might as well post for the new round. Next round! Elves in toll booth, p32 and somewhere in the merchant stalls. Lark at p10, Triska at s22, Sabriel at t23, Fir at r32 and Tegid still at r14 unless he moves during his last action!

Female Celadrin Warlock 3

Sabriel sees the two elves with bows drawn moving towards her and considers throwing another Eldritch Blast, before deciding against it rushing towards the nearest, drawing her rapier as she goes. She slashes out at him, hoping to get in close and make their bows useless, but the strike goes wide, slicing into one of the cloth walls.
