Hey all, this is OneWinged4ngel. It's been a while since I've really been active in the D&D community (some may remember I pretty much abandoned the WotC boards and deleted most of my content when I became aware of a certain line in WotC's user agreement), but I'm sure some of you remember me from the WotC forums for my articles and homebrewed content, like the Rebalanced Paladin or the Philosophy of Class Design.
I've recently gotten all the 4e books in hand, and been thoroughly disappointed, as have many of my friends, for a variety of reasons I won't recount here. One of them suggested that I take a closer look at Pathfinder, particularly since it has this whole "public feedback development" thing going, and a notably different design philosophy from WotC. Looking through the Alpha 3, I was a bit surprised to see some of my own rules implemented in there for the paladin and a few other sections. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of the art layout by artists like Wayne Reynolds that captured the fantastic feel of D&D that I had always envisioned, as opposed to the lackluster, wannabe "XTREME" vibe 4e seems to give off, and encouraged by some of the editors notes, such as saying "the simplification sacrifices some of the versatility of the game, which is a BAD thing." A philosophy that 4e D&D, sadly, does not seem to share.
So, now, I'm reading through the alpha, getting acquainted with the new ideas and concepts running around, some of which I like, some I don't, and considering contributing my game design experience and throwing in my 2 coppers on the whole development process. Guess I'm just here to say hi and introduce myself. Hopefully get a better feel for this community and the project going on here. Forgive me if it's the wrong forum; obviously, I'm new here ;)
So, hello everyone!

and hello to you!
welcome to the boards. hope to see you around. I've read some of your things from the WotC board, and look forward to what you can add to the little community here. I'm a relatively new one here myself, (well aside from lurking) and have enjoyed getting to know various folks who frequent here.

Welcome!
So, what is your philosophy of class design?
Hey, Lilith, are there any cookies left for the new guy?
My philosophy of class design... Hmm, well, I'd copy the old backup I kept of the post, but I'm not sure the formatting would work here. Will have to figure out how all the tags work ;)
Until then, I think it might actually still be stickied on the Dreamscarred Press forums. I know it's buried somewhere in Giant in the Playground, too.

And after making this first post, I already seem to have some sort of weird problem with the forums. I don't see my topic appearing when I refresh the forum page, though I can find it by going to "recent posts" on my profile, and am replying to it that way. What's going on?
Welcome.
Yeah, there’s an ongoing bug that the Paizo guys are trying to pin down which means posts sometimes don’t show up for a little while. Even more occasionally they vanish all together.

Hey, welcome to our community! Hope you enjoy it and stay.

The boards are a bit... mmm, odd. Sometimes post don't show up right away, sometimes existing posts temporarily disappear, sometimes the boards eat your posts entirely. I blame it on the board ghosts.
One thing to keep in mind: When posting, especially with long posts, always either A) select and copy your entire post, or B) write your post in a text editor or word processor and then copy it over to the boards. It can be very frustrating when you craft a clever post only to have it eaten by the boards. I know from experience.
Other than the occasional board glitches (and some heated anti-/pro-4e flame wars), the Paizo boards are a great place and a vast majority of the regulars are quite civil (friendly, even!). So, again, welcome aboard! :)

Welcome to the boards! ;D
Power Word: Peanut Butter!
I want that spell. Of course, I need Power Word: Milk as well. :D

Welcome!
I do in fact remember your article on the Paladin from the WotC boards. I myself jumped ship from there sometime last year, but didn't find a new home until just before Pathfinder was announced.
Must say, the majority of my experiences on this site have been positive, intellectual, creative, and humourous. Even when things get out of hand, it is not as bad as it could be.
I expect someone from Paizo to show up soon and welcome you.
Paizo staff, roll initiative!

Howdie and welcome abourd! I hang at Necro mostly....big Wilderlands fan. Cant stand 4e or them board stalkers, thread-crappers, and trolls so I been kind of sneaking over here more and more. I am finding it a might cozy, course I git ignored a bunch, but nobody seems to be rude over an opinion. So come sit a spell.

Welcome to the our little corner of the world! Don't hesitate to jump on in and participate. That is half the fun of our messageboards. See you around!

PS: Does this mean that I won initiative?
You did. And since speaking is a free action, you still have the rest of your turn!
Unless you were using the diplomacy skill just now...

Did you guys hear something, I swear I just heard something, I think I failed a listen check.
Speaking of which heya One wing, yeah I remember you from the boards, I left slightly after you, but I cam here a bit before yah when I was batting for both sides (now I barely ever go to WotCs forum.

Hi there. Good to have you here. You'll find this is one of the friendliest places on the net.
A lot of the people here (me included) share your opinion on 4e and are therefore more than happy that Paizo will keep 3e alive.
By all means, don't hesitate to let us know your opinion about the changes, or suggestions about how to make things better. The fun thing is that they could actually show up in the game. A lot of things I talked about changing were changed in the game - though I wasn't the only one making those suggestions, or course. But it shows that if we have good problems to improve the game, they definetly won't fall on deaf ears!

The boards software is a bit weird. Things happen. They need some bugfix, and a proper exorcism.
But better the boards than the members, am I right?

Out of curiousity, what kind of gamer do you consider your self?
A heavy roleplayer, with a penchant for gripping plot, compelling character development, immersive settings, and unique and thrilling encounters. I take pride in being that guy who makes the players go "Wow" and talk for hours after every session about that latest plot twist or that exciting scene. I put a lot of work into my DMing (which I do more often than not) as well as my player characters, and I come from a history of 8 years of freeform roleplaying (including running several websites for it) before I really hit off on this whole "using rules" thing (I had done it before, but never really got into groups that were into it until later). Despite that, I might as well be a poster boy for the Stormwind Fallacy. I have a knack for mechanics, math, tactics, and the like, and more often than not have the most effective character in the party, whether I'm playing a Fighter, Wizard, or Bard, though I make a point of avoiding abuses and actually trying to help the DM (and other players) keep a better balance in the game through constructive advice and the like. I also am a big video gamer, to the point that I have competed against pros in tournaments or even gone head to head with a coupla MLG clans, and have had the experience of being the head (and design lead) of an indie game development group for a coupla years, making online games and mods and such, like Final Conflict for Warcraft 3. Also did some work as a video game tester. Currently going to college to become a video game designer.
So, I guess I would consider myself a "hardcore" gamer ;)
That help answer your question at all?

Oh, one thing: To show your allegience, rename yourself: OneWingedAng3l ;-)
I believe that means you also have to keep your kobolds leased at all times
Oh yes. We're very particular with kobold leasing. If you haven't lent someone your kobolds for a monthly fee, we have to be rough with you!
:P
(Yeah, we love to pounce on typos like that. All in good fun.)
man i never got a friendly meet and greet
Awww.
Welcome aboard, knightey! :) (Better late than never).
Your welcome cookies have gone a bit stale, have some new ones!

You did. And since speaking is a free action, you still have the rest of your turn!
Unless you were using the diplomacy skill just now...
I was thinking about using diplomacy, but since the rest of the staff is flat-footed, perhaps I should use my move action to walk over to Jason Bulmahn's desk and use my standard action to chain him into his desk until he has Pathfinder Beta done! <rubs hands evilly>
Or I could use my move action to move over to where Lilith is offering all those cookies and use my standard action to try a disarm attempt (unarmed of course) so I can grab those cookie! It's Friday, and Lisa needs a sugar rush! :)
