With 4th here already... I just wanted to take a moment for my self, and to give others a chance, to thank Paizo, Jason Bulmahn, and others involved with the creation of the Pathfinder game.
This isn't just a thank you for giving us an alternative from 4th, but also the way it has been managed its creation, and what ever else we can think of! So tally up, and say what you have thanks for Paizo.
So again, THANK YOU!

Thank you Erik Mona, for your leadership and the pivotal decisions you've made to stand up for the 3.5 system, the Open Game Licence movement, and for all that this means to the continuation of third party publications despite legal maneuverings by you know who.
Thank you Jason, for working tirelessly on PRPG. 3.5 Never Dies, my friend. Thank you for continuing 30+ years of tradition by placing backward compatibility in your top three guiding principles. Thank you for reaching out to Monte as a sounding board. Thank you for the way in which you've involved this community in your decision-making in order to make PRPG the game we all want to play.
Thank you Lisa, for creating what appears to be an open, honest, customer-focused organization of talented folks who honor and respect our game by keeping it alive, and with all the spirit with which it was intended. Thank you for agreeing to such diverse work products, and for keeping the staff happy in their jobs so they can continue to deliver the finest, highest quality rpg products in the industry.
Thank you staff and customer service of PAIZO. Over the past four years, I have always had nothing but the best customer service from you, in a day and age where such quality seems increasingly scarce.
Thank you everyone for supporting PAIZO's bold decisions. This community helps ensure I'll keep receiving the gaming materials I enjoy, for a game that belongs to all of us.

-Thank you Paizo for being my Friendly Local Gaming Store when I moved from one side of the US to another. I know that I can always come here and get good honest information about a product that I’m interested in.
-Thank you for the Pathfinder AP’s which helped me get into DMing and enjoying it once again. I knew from the moment that you announced them that Pathfinder was something special and I feel honored to have been a customer of it right from the beginning.
-Thank you for being willing to buy back D&D miniatures, I’ll be sending in a list as soon as I get them out from storage in Illinois.
-Thank you for excellent Customer Service.
-Thank you for the Pathfinder RPG Alpha rules. I have loved watching the development of the system and feeling a part of it.
-Thank you for the discounts, especially the Pathfinder Subscription related discounts, that have helped me afford your products even when money is tight.
-Thank you for hosting these message boards where all of us can talk and discuss anything from the latest product to what is bothering us about our day.
-Thank you for being honest with us about your products and plans, and helping us feel like our thoughts and suggestions are really heard.

Here is my money. Here is my respect.
Ditto! Thank you so much for what you're doing - and for listening to us, the fans and customers! In this current era/climate/whatever that's a real rarity and I'm sure that everyone here appreciates the personal aspects of Paizo greatly.
I'm not a subscriber currently, but this year every spare penny has gone to Paizo as well as the entire gaming budget. Plus all of our roleplaying friend's birthday presents have come from Paizo and my wife and I have every intention of subscribing when we get our life organized. :D
Thank you once again!
Long live Paizo! Long live Pathfinder!

I have to join in!
Thank you for Pathfinder in all its forms!
Thank you for the best customer relations from any company I can think of!
Thank you for giving those of us who don't want to leave 30 years of D&D behind a home!
Thank you for letting us say our piece about your plans for the game, and for listening to what we're saying!
In sort, thank you for everything!

And another thanks.
Mind you, apart from the top notch products, the willingness to interact with your customers and listen to us, the general good humour and insanity of the boards, the reliable customer services and the support for a good system, what have Paizo ever done for us?

As I was looking at 4th ed, I realized that, while it will no doubt be great fun for many people, it really isn't for me. I was sad, because I did want to see some changes from 3.5, but it looked like the only way to get that was with 4e.
Then I ran across Pathfinder. Holy crap, guys, this is awesome. Thanks so much.

I'd just like to add my thanks to those of everyone else.
I too just purchased D&D 4th Edition, and to say that I was horrified would be a gross understatement. I don't mind change, because change is how we grow, but 4e is terrible. It doesn't even look like it was created by people who ever played D&D. I won't belabor the negative, but this will be the first time in my life that I've ever returned _any_ book to a store.
But I just found your site. And I downloaded your alpha.
And I'm in love. You've taken a system that I already liked, and have polished it to a fine gloss. And this is just the alpha release? : )
By the time I got as far as the Barbarian entry, which you have removed all traces of "suck" from, I knew I was hooked. I've nearly finished reading the book - nay, devouring it - and I'm completely thrilled.
You've taken a system I already love, and have improved and streamlined it. Some of the changes are similar to house rules I'd already use, but many more are things that I probably never would have thought of, but which, once seen, make me think "Of course! How perfect!"
I've been playing D&D for almost 28 years. I'd almost thought the game was doomed when I saw 4e. I shall now be happy to play Pathfinder instead. And, of course, I'll be pleased to spend all the money that I'd have spent on WotC's product on your products instead.
Best wishes,
Coyote

I want to add my thanks as well - there is much to be said that has already been said, so I'll try to be succinct.
Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition is an entirely new game. It isn't the continuation (i.e., the "next edition") of an already existing product. The people at WotC told us to get ready to throw everything away and start over when this new product came out. thanks to Paizo, we don't have to. For that, I want to thank you first and foremost - you guys really understand, because you're gamers, too, that this game means something to those who play it besides "buying cool new stuff".
We have a system that works. As previously noted on this thread, change is how we grow ... and we need to value and honor where we come from and what we've learned, and build upon what we have already achieved. the Pathfinder RPG does what WotC should've done to call their game a 4th edition of something that came before: work with what we already have, learn from what our collective experiences teach us and make the end result better for everyone. For that, thank you very much - the value of continuity adds to the worthiness of your "backwards compatibility" commitment.
I don't mean to diss the effort of the people at WotC... I am sure that many people will come to the hobby and find their lives enriched, just like mine and many others' have been enriched by letting this game be a part of them, in whatever form. But thanks to paizo, the game can not only enrich the lives of those who come into the hobby anew (or throw everything away and start over) but it can continue enriching the experiences of everyone who loves this game of telling stories.
So, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! and please let us continue working together to make this game the best it can be.

Thanks for keepin' up the spirit of pen&paper rpg and for your courage to stick to your convictions in the face of adversity, namely WotC/Hasbro. And thanks for making us--your customers and audience--part of the process.
The late Gygax, I think, would have very much approved. And what the heck, if you make a buck or two along the way then these are bucks well earned. ;-)
Let us all honor the effort by playing PATHFINDER and introducing it to new gamers! Keep the spirit of pen&paper gaming alive!

I've only been posting here for a couple of months but I've been a long time customer of Paizo, having bought just about every issue of Dragon they produced and a decent number of the Dungeon as well. I have always had the highest regard for these products and I genuinely dispared when I heard they were going out of print.
But then the Pathfinder AP's started and I was floored. It was like the twin publications of yore had merged and become greater than their collected parts! In many ways it made the passing of thier ancestor magazines more tollerable.
As for the RPG itself, there is little I can add to the sentiments already expressed by the posts above me: It kepts a system I love in print, makes genuine improvements to the game and has the best customer/designer relationship you'll find in the industry.
But there is one last thing I'd like to say: I believe that Pathfinder is the true continuation of the D&D path I started walking, often without realising it, since I was a small child in rural New South Wales some 20-odd years ago. And for that, I thank all the Paizo staff.

I agree. The marketing of WotC vs. marketing of Paizo is like comparing night and day. Kudos to Paizo.
Now Pathfinder shouldn't become the "alternate 4E". It should stay 3.5 to provide any valuable alternative to 4E. Which means, if rules change so much from 3.5 as to not ensure backwards compatibility, Pathfinder becomes pointless, or rather, "just another d20 iteration", and we have literally hundreds of these.

QFT twice! Thank you guys -- after my first playtest session as a DM I have to say I *never* enjoyed DMing a game this much. A lot of the vague or unclear rules are removed or corrected, and the game looks and feels better than any edition of D&D. GREAT WORK, guys! You'll certainly get my bucks.... er, euros! :)

I wholly agree.
I was looking forward 4e because 10 years of play can show all the issues of a beloved system like 3.5. But they're minor issues, and your revision of core mechanics can really give us a long-live system.
My fighter style PCs were the most interested in 4e, but after having read the rules they were almost horrified (not to mention my magefriend estrosiath who killed with his bare hands his amazon order)
I plan to introduce 3P in my game as soon as beta version will be released. Thanks from my party and me. I'll give you all my support and technical help.

Estrosiath |
Basically, what Hayden said. If you get this right (and it certainly seems like you are going to), you will have managed to make something which is almost unknown: a balanced and eternal FRPG system. Already 3.5 had but a few problems, mostly due to the fact that successive supplements had piled up and added too many rules/feats/PrC combos that would certainly not have existed, had a single team done all the technical development.
You have managed, however, to clear away 99% of these problems. I love the fact that you now have many reasons to remain active in a core class, instead of simply multi-classing away into PrCs as soon as the goodies dry up (since they now simply don't). Love the fixes for the Sorcerer (but please balance all the bloodlines in terms of power! That is very important), and love how you redid the Wizard specialist (but there again - please review the spells and abilities they give - shield 1x per 2 CLs per day isn't quite as useful as Magic missile with the same frequency, and summon monster I is useless (I would suggest that you can spend x uses of the ability to get effects that mimic summon monster II, etc... For instance if you use 9 uses, you get to summon monster 9. Either that, or simply make it scale as you level up) ).
And yes, I did cancel my fourth edition order, out of spite and anger. As much as I hailed the advent of the 3rd edition as the best thing ever to have befallen D&D, I must admit that the 4th edition is nothing more than commercial drivel with a few good ideas thrown in (but nothing that could not have been adapted to the 3.5). I am really disappointed with what they have done with the game, and sadly suspect that they were "forced" into changing it by Hasbro execs.
Thank you, Paizo. Keep it up!

Sometime next year, I will walk into my FLGS to scrounge for D&D products. I will walk past the shiny rotating 4th Edition stand by the front door, past the Warhammer racks and the sales counter, past the comic books and anime, past the action figures, swords and boardgames. Way back in the back of the store, where they used to keep 3.5 before the edition change, I will search desperately for a new book to buy that month. Then I will see it, that grey hardcover book with the words "PATHFINDER RPG" on the front. And month after month, more books will get added to that pile, and soon those racks will be filled with PRPG splatbooks, adventures, and tools.
And I know, that in early 2009, I will enter my FLGS and weep tears of joy, because my favorite game will live on in spirit, if not name.
Thank you, Paizo. And especially, Jason Bulmahn.

I'd like to thank Paizo as well.
Here's a brief testimonial...
One of my playtest players, one Tuesday evening, suddenly burst with joy and enthusiasm.
"Damn I love this game! This is so awesome what they've done! I feel like logging onto their boards and telling them that, and that isn't normally something I would do. That isn't my style. But I like this game so much, I'm really tempted."
That's a good sign, Paizo. A very good sign indeed. I might have liked 4E too, but you have a powerful good project in thw works here.
Thank you.
PS: I have sent my player this thread's URL.. hopefully he'll take the opportunity to thank you himself.
