Thinking about OGL

3.5/d20/OGL

Just looking at my library and seeing how huge it has gotten. Before Paizo said they were going to stick with 3.5 I was almost happy that 4th was coming. Not that I like the no backwards compatablity or WotC in general, but I've spent so much and gotten so many D20 and related books I thought, well I'm done. I don't have the same loyaty to the name D&D that some have so 3rd and OGL would go down as my game and this was the end of the line. But then Pathfinder went 3rd, most of the big d20 companies have not commited to 4th, other then the companies who made there money supporting WotC with adv. Paizo may still do that after a fasion, but they have in effect taken over 3.5/OGL's center. So I was wondering if they will get any followers like in the days of 3.5?

As I see it:

Goodman, Necro. Both of which have made there choice of going 4th. To bad only in that the GSL makes it harder for them to support both with advanters. Don't like it, but at lest they made there intentions clear form the start.

Mongoose has Conan, which works well and is easily convertable, but no more D20/OGL/3.5 stuff, at lest for now.

GR has True 20 which is convertable, but for me its is a 3.5 lit. game (which is good) but nothing new. In other words no race or class has come out of True 2O that I want to use for OGL, though a lot of OGL would be good in a simplified game.

Trollord also has their own house rules, but as I didn't want or need to convert to 1st I have no idea if they've also been supporting 3.5

Then here are the wild cards.

Midnight form FFG? Any news on what they will do? From what I've heard of 4th, both good and bad, I don't see the setting working under 4th rules, though they mod. 3rd for it I suppose they could do the same.

World of WarCraft, and to a lesser extent White Wolf's Soward and Socery line?

Blackmore?

Wilderlands or J.G.?

Guess I wondering whoes side is everyone going to end up on. There are more settings I know, please add any/most that I've missed. I'm just wondering which way the industry is turning, if anyone knows. In either case I can see, in a year or two as I finish getting eveything I'm missing from OGL D20 that Pathfinder will be getting my money.

And honestly I don't know how I feel about that. Some rule varints I'll problly pick up (like Conan which I've played) others like True 20 might get some attention (GR did make some great 3PP material for 3rd) but I can see myself going back to Palladium full time, and save a lot of money, Instead of buying good stuff from 10 to 25 companies, but get stuff form Paizo, Palladium, maybe a few others.

Any thoughts?

Almost forgot, K of K is going Hackmaster5th, though I've heard some rumors that even now they are still making 3.5 stuff at lest in PDF format, maybe supporting both Hackmaster and 3.5, which in terms of PDF or PonD might be a very smart move, why not support both fan base?

does it really matter who is on whose side? its a game. i will still buy stuff from paizo, i will still buy stuff from wizards, and i will still buy stuff from the ogl world.

fluff is fluff. regardless of where it comes from.

wizards isnt going anywhere. role dice, drink beer, have fun.

Well actually, issue 55 and 57 of Signs and Portents has some d20 content. Check it out!
