Rellios is fully healed after two days of magical healing. Assuming he can fix any minor damage done to his armor, he should be good to go for now.

I like your plan for chasing whatever is behind the door down to the well. However, did we go ahead and cap her inside the well with the forgefiend's body like was mentioned - since everyone seemed amicable to that plan. Or just ignore that and be be prepared to bring him down here and let them have it out...

When we get to that door, Rellios will check to see if it is locked or trapped. Perception (1d20+8=27)

The door is barred from the inside but appears neither locked nor trapped. Rellios cannot currently hear anything through the thick door. The tapping sounds heard occassionally are not discernable at present.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Well...I don't have a Knock spell handy. Would it be possible to unbar the door with a Disable Device check? Or are we looking at brute force to open the door otherwise. Disable Device (1d20+8=19)in case it helps.

Sorry, when I said "barred from the inside" I meant the door is barred from inside the room you are in. You can unbar it easily. Whatever is on the other side might have a heck of a time of it but you can lift the bar.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

gimme about an hour to pore over my spells for the day (actually clean up the shop and get home), sil vous plait (or something) and I'll post my spells and prep to enter the room

Whew, that's a relief. I was thinking we were going to have figure out a way to unlatch the door in a very creative manner - like a coat hanger through a crack or something. ;-)

Rellios will prepare to flip the bar off when the other two are ready. Also, he'll try to do it in a manner that would allow him to remain slightly hidden in case something can see who's standing at the doors.

I love the suspense.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

...cast shield...cast enlarge...cast magic weapon...

Let Hru state what he does and then Rellios can lift the bar...

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I'm taking Blessx2 magic weapon also, I'll bless us, cast magic weapon, then enlarge, but I'll reserve rage for now (+4 to hit and dam +1 bab +1 bless and +1 magic weapon =+7 to hit +7 damage..that's just so I keep it straight) sword ready, ok lets do this

Hru kneels and prays to Gorum, and the air feels electric with divine power, and with a last "GORUM!!" the fabric of reality stretches as Hru's form inflates like a balloon. In a much deeper rumble, he chuckles and says in a booming basso "I'll never get used to that, heh!"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Be liftin' that bar Rellios..."

Initiative: (1d20+1=9)

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Rellios lifts the bar from the door and pulls/pushes the doors open. He's doing his best to stay out of sight as he does so. If nothing becomes apparent when they first open the doors, he does his best to sneak in ahead and blend into the shadows for now.

Initiative (1d20+3=20)
Stealth (1d20+8=12)

The room would be the shape that you predict based upon your experience of the spire so far ... would be if it hadn't been smashed to pieces, no doubt by giant boulders like those that left the other side of this spire pock-marked.

From where you stand, you can see a set of stairs ascending around the spire. While much of the floor is gone, a narrow ledge from what is left of the left side of the room connects to the stairs.

The entire space of the room is surrounded by spiderwebs ... very, very big spiderwebs. While the bridge to the next spire is gone, a funnel travels across to the next spire. Even if you fell from this room, you would not plunge 400 odd feet to your instant death but only about 10 feet into a spiderweb.

You cannot see any spiders at present but the web is huge and the funnel of the web blocks your view.

Some spiderwebs touch the ledge that connects to the stairs.

On your right side, inaccessible without touching the web, is a collection of carefully wrapped corpses. Gleams of armour and weapons are visible through the strands that entomb them.

Hope I'm describing this right. Basically, you can reach the stairs without making an acrobatics save but you will have to make a stealth check to avoid touching any strands. That is not your only option however. Have fun.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I move carefully into the room, weapon at the ready and cast about for any spiders above me.

"I 'ave 'alf a mind ta be burning these webs. Be bettin' that would be gettin' a response."

"Rellios, ya want ta be checkin' those corpses. Ye 'ave keen eyes. Hru, what da ya think, should we be callin fer our enemies?"

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

"Agreed...I'll check out the corpses."
With a quick burst of agility and careful movement, Rellios makes his way towards the wrapped bodies. He tries to move as gently as possible along the remains of the floor and onto the webs. All the while, he tries to keep his eyes and ears open for noise or movement.

Wasn't sure if you need them all, but...
Acrobatics (1d20+8=13)
Stealth (1d20+8=23)
Perception (1d20+8=11)

Rellios glides like a spider along the floor and webs, barely sending any vibrations deeper into the web.

He sees:

Spoiler:

Seven corpses in all. Four of them are small in size and probably goblin or kobold. It is difficult to tell without disturbing the web they are wrapped in. Two are those canine-like creatures you saw below. Encased in the web beside one are two stone tipped spears of high quality. Although the corpse has been desiccated beyond recognition, the seventh creature, by height and gear, is elven. He or she wears leather armour and a belt of daggers. The leather armour and belt are dried and cracked beyond repair, but two daggers are still present in the belt and in apparently good condition.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Looking around at the dizzying heights Hru shrugs off the shiver that momentarily runs thru him. "I'd rather we brought them to us then go out there, what say after checking those corpses for loot, we throw them or something equally heavy into the web to attract them back here to solid ground, keepin' as a resort, closing the doors on em if need be" He says, gesturing out at the funnel-like web.

no good will come of going out there to fight 8/ any other insights? We did see giant spiders before right?

Hru, Rellios, and Clareg (Torag preserve his soul) saw at least five giant spiders in this web when they were hunting down below.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

"There's seven bodies out here - not much in term of treasure. I can't dig too much deeper without distrurbing the web."

DM:

Spoiler:

Rellios will attempt to remove the two spears and daggers as best he can. To the elven corpse, he'll mutter,"Sorry, friend. But your gear may help us in the long run. Peace." He finds himself briefly thinking of the buried foster brother, Clareg, and his own brushes with mortality.

Rellios will stand back up awkwardly, then quietly move along the web as best he can while keeping an eye out for any spider surprises.
Acrobatics (1d20+8=11)
Stealth (1d20+8=19)
Perception(1d20+8=9)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Our spells will be wearin' off shortly, better ta fight on our terms," I say.

"Who wants the 'onors of playin' the fly?"

"Iffin' they are too much, we can always retreat 'n return."

The spears are too long to remove without disturbing the web. The daggers come easily enough. They feel perfectly weighted. Rellios makes it back to the ledge safely and without causing much disturbance in the web.

The strands of web near the ledge begin to grow taut one after the other and then slack again ... as if they are being plucked and tested.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As the seconds tick by, I contemplate a strategy, "I can take center. Rellios and Hru,... Iffin there' more than one of them, I say we be focusin' on them one at a time..."

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As the webs move, I make up my mind...

"I 'ate waitin'," I say with a laugh and a shake of my head, "I'll be playin' the part o' the fly I guess." With a deft twist of my hammer I conjure forth a flaming sphere which I send right to the edge of the ledge to burn the webs that connect to the spot being tested. (the sphere will last three rounds, it burns anything flammeable it touches, and I can move it as a move action on my part).

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Little bit delayed in my post, sorry. I would have volunteered otherwise, Master Klyndak.

Rellios explains, "There were seven bodies. Four of them were small - probably kobolds or goblins given their numbers - I'm skeptical any of them were any dwarf-kin, unless they were really old. It's difficult to tell without disturbing the web. Two were those dog-men we saw when we were hunting. The last one looked elvish, and I managed to retrieve these two daggers. There were two good spears, I think - but I couldn't pull them out. That's about it without tearing the webbing apart to see what else is buried in there."

Rellios stows he daggers for now. He'll draw his bow to see what comes crawling.

I don't know why but I've run short on initiative checks for you guys again. I thought I got some recently but ... Load me up with four more.

Three spiders appear from within the funnel shaped web. They are moving fast and straight towards you.

ROUND 1 -- Roll inititive for this round and pluck yourself in the initiative order
14 Spiders

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Initiative (1d20+3=15)
Extra Initiatives (1d20+3=9, 1d20+3=22, 1d20+3=14, 1d20+3=20)

Seeing that he can act before the spiders reach them, Rellios will target the leading spider and let an arrow fly. Bow (1d20+5=20) Forgot the bless, so it's actually 21, yes?
Damage (1d8=8)

The arrow flies true (I hope) and imbeds itself deep in the creature.
"Kylndak, Hru, you wanted a target...focus on the one with shaft buried in it." Assuming I got a first shot. ;-)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

you guys stay up late. (for a tuesday)

1d20+2=19, 1d20+2=21, 1d20+2=18, 1d20+2=17 Nice!

Hru prepares for the arachnid onslaught

No range attack for Hru? You're holding your action?

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Initiative: (1d20+1=20)

Acting quickly, I motion and send my flaming sphere towards the spider in front.

Damage: (2d6=8)
Save for the Spider to avoid damage: Reflex DC 15

As I actually acted before Rellios, I'll let him shoot the spider I'm trying to burn. ;) How big are the spiders?

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

the vamp has my javelins, haven't had ranged since. I prefer to see my opponents eyes as they die..ha!

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

RELLIOS: Assuming the spiders haven't acted yet(i.e. flatfooted) and we are within 30 feet, you get sneak attack damage...

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:

Sounds great; I assumed it didn't apply because of the fact that we were facing them. Sneak attack damage would be: 2d6=3 to the total damage on the same spider.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

If we get the chance, we need to retrieve those stone-tipped spears then, if only to give you something to throw. :-)

In the case of these spiders, that's gonna be a lot of eyes at once ;-)Gonna be a little while before I can respond for the next round.

Back from work ...

One of the spiders leaps over Klyndak's flaming sphere but then takes an arrow from Rellios' bow. Yeah, sneak attack damage, I guess ... Any word on whether this was the intention?

The three spiders -- as big as horses and as reddish-brown as the spires' stone -- close the distance quickly. ROUND 2: You still have the initiative as the spiders' used their round to move. They are right in your face now though. Two more spiders are skittering up the web and into the funnel.

ROUND 2
Klyndak
Rellios
Hru
Spiders

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I assume iffin they're in my face I don't have ta be movin' ta attack... I'm also assumin' I am attackin' an undamaged spider. If I am attackin' the spider that Rellios shot I send my flamin' Sphere after another one.

Oh, and a reminder that my AC is currently 19. (EDIT: Oops that should be 17 with the enlarged effects.) :)

I attack the spider that is in front of me even as I cause my Flaming Sphere to roll up behind and under it, burning webs as it comes

Arcane/Blessed Warhammer Attack: (1d20+4+1+1=15)
Enlarged Damage: (2d6+4+1=14)

Flaming Sphere Damage (DC 15): (2d6=9)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

The horrors of an orcish upbringing spring to Hru's mind as the creatures eyes draw near...the unrepentent voracity in those eyes. I must destroy these things in righteous battle! Hru deftly brings his sword to bear with a cry of "Gorum!! Blood and souls for Gorum...HHAHAHAHA!!"

attack;damage (1d20+7=27, 2d6+7=12)

to confirm (1d20+7=22) whoop!

critcal...add 1 for magic weapon (2d6+6=13, 2d6+6=12) =26 damage

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Rellios pulls his blades, and goes after the spider with the arrow stuck in it - if possible. Otherwise, he'll face off at whichever one comes his way that he gang up on with Klyndak. His strikes comes swift and true, striking the spider through one of its eyes.
Rapier (1d20+4=24) Nat. 20! Damage (1d6+2=6)
Rapier Critical (1d20+4=23) Critical Damage (1d6+2=6)
Short Sword (1d20+4=8) Damage (1d6+1=5)
Sneak Attack - if applicable (2d6=10)

Hearing the hissing and popping as the flaming sphere burns through webs alerts the spider, who nimbly steps aside and avoids it again. It cannot avoid Klyndak's hammer, however, which cracks the hard outer skeleton of the creature. The creature lives but fails in its attempt to bite Klyndak.

Not to be outdone, Hru slices through the narrow part that joins the two body segments of the spider facing him.

Rellios earns his keep with his rapier against the already wounded spider. The spider replies with a nasty bite. 6 pts of damage and make a DC 13 Fortitude save

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

OOC:Rellios - just your luck to draw the toughest spider. 33 pts of damage and it still bites you :p

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As my flaming sphere continues to burn underneath my spidery foe (final round) I try to smash it once more with my hammer...

Attacking the spider again: (1d20+4+1+1=14)
Damage from an arcane, enlarged Hammer: (2d6+4+1=12)

Flaming Sphere (DC 15): (2d6=4)

"Good job Hru!" I shout as I observe the priest dispatching his spider with his sword, "'Ave ye ever tried fried spider legs? Not that we be 'avin' any oil..."

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Sorry. I watch too many bad movies... :D

Back to the game...

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Rellios tries to shake off the creature's venomous bite, and strike again. The bite has made him a bit sluggish, so this time around his blows lack the strength of his first strike.
Rapier, Sword (1d20+4=12, 1d20+4=16)

I guess I was counting his sneak attack, figuring that the spider was still flatfooted :) My bad.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Klyndak's hungry, thinking about cherry tomatoes and calamari at a time like this

Hru will scan quickly and then attack the nearest living spider with a shout of "HOO HOO!"

attack;damage (1d20+7=21, 2d6+7=16) chunk! actually I'm going to roll a couple attacks, so we can carry on, as I have to go out till about 9, but I'll try to get on when I get home, and stay up late, like the cool kids 8)

attack;damage x 2 (1d20+7=13, 2d6+7=18, 1d20+7=8, 2d6+7=13) craptacular! let me know what the one means (hopefully we'll dispatch all the spiders before I have to use that)

Klyndak and Rellios finish with 'their' spiders before Hru can arrive to aid them. Two more spiders approach cautiously.

A snarling howl can be heard as a humanoid creature swings through the web and lands on the stairs near the approaching spiders. Without hesitating, the humanoid -- a leather-armour clad bugbear attacks one of the two remaining spiders. ... missing ridiculously which kind of ruined what would have been a dramatic entrance.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As tempted as I am to attack bugbears on principle, I'll refrain just this once... No telling what would happen to the space time continuim if I did. :D

"Are ye lost lad," I growl at the bugbear, but as it is fighting the spiders, I decide it might be an ally, if only temporarily.

I take a couple of big steps forward and bring my hammer down at the spider the bugbear was attacking.

Moving in to attack another spider: (1d20+4+1+1=14)
Damage: (2d6+4+1=16)

The bugbear looks at Klyndak with a toothy grin. Waving a dwarven warhammer he says "Hammer sticky," as if to explain why he missed.

The warhammer is thickly covered in white spiderwebs since his plunge through the web.
