For light and heavy crossbows, they can be fitted with a smaller blade (dagger) or larger blade (short sword) for use as a bayonet. There's a -2 penalty to attacks with a bayonet, though. I suppose it's to represent the awkwardness of stabbing with a crossbow.

Complete Scoundrel's pretty cool in regards to various crafty weaponry, actually. It's got a bunch of hidden blades that a devious adventurer might employ.

I would allow that in game if you guys wanted it, and you can Retcon to buy one if you wish.

Crossbow workings are simple as a bow, just cant the bow to the side and load in on a stock. The crossbow does seem to get alot of problems in the d&d world(s) becase someone thinks they are hard to use. The other side is true, they are very easy to use takeing only a few weeks to get good with, where a bow takes years of training just to get good. Speed cocking ( no joke ) can be done the same a handpump shot gun, much like the pelet guns we all had as kids. The d&d world makes the repeating crossbow with a build in crank that loads the next bolt.

I do think they should be 1d8 for damage for a simple weapon, and then if one was to take a feat like combat crossbow training or that type would let the crossbow ignore 5 points of hardness and/or armor. It would be about the same as someone with a hand gun. Anyone can shoot one, but someone trained could make better use of it.

What do you all think? Would a crossbow feat for Martial or Exotic weapon training that would let crossbows ignore or penatrate armor be doable?

I agree, crossbows are way simpler to learn and use than a bow. Speed cocking should definitely have a strength requirement. That's why crossbows historically had levers or cranks to load the weapon; it takes a lot of force to cock them. It's also part of what makes them easier to use, high force = high velocity = flatter trajectories = easier aiming. I also agree that at short ranges some sort of "anti-armour" bonus makes sense, perhaps as a feat, but I'd argue that it should apply to "mighty" bow weapons too. The key is the high velocity.

That didnt sound good, but hopefully we're all reading too much into it. Maybe Freehold DM will get some news.

Indeed, but I got your back! (I only check for times a day or so O:)

M Draco Electricus author 2, herper 4, canine exerciser 9,

Kailar what does it mean when you are working in the field? Are you drilling for oil, harvesting beans, recruiting drug-sniffing turtles? Just curious.

Male Ettin Expert 4/Wizard 4/Giant 5

no, sorry for the lack of info. I am with the canadian forces as a mechanic, and we have a small shop that is about 45 minites from our main base here in New Brunswick. Right now we have about 50 vehicals ranging from jeeps to apcs.
My job was to keep them running, while they get drivein around the training area. Most of the new drivers are still inexspericed, so i am keeped on my feet most the time.

It was a good week.

To tell the truth, some of your National Guard were up doing some training. They were a good lot of guys.

Yeah, welcome back Kail'ar. Jaden's sudden revival was very timely.

Nothing serious I hope ?

You could call it serious, but the important thing is that I'm on the road to recovery.

Good. Glad to hear it.

what would the dc be on crafting a longspear, and could one pull it off with woodworking over the weaponsmithing normal craft check.?

In game terms no, but I would think it reasonable if you already had the point, since you then are crafting a long stick. Certain things would be different than a stick (type of wood, notched head, direction of grain, balanced grip, finishes) but imho you could do it with a +5 (+10?) over the weaponsmithing DC (see quarter staff/club). The DC is in the end of the equip chapter near masterwork, but I do not have it with me now. If you need the head, that would probably need WS check.

I have finished converting Faldor to beta ruleset.

Fakey: I was wondering if I could use the crafted lute that I made as my summon instrument. Keep it in a safe extraplaner pocket type thing so it isn't dammaged all the time.

Sure, why not?

The crafting a longspear thing.....Without a metal spearpoint I would rule that you could craft one with woodworking or craft at DC15 (or less if it's less in RAW) but it would do -1 damage.

Guys, busy at work today. Starting long weekend away tomorrow. Probably can't post til Mon. If there's anyway Effan can help feel free to play him.

Male Tiefling Rogue 3/Transmuter 8/Evil Genius 4

Hey guys. Sorry I've been a bit quiet... I'm in the Texas hill country right now... not much internet access for me (I'm in a Starbucks right now; its nearly a half-hour away from where I'm staying, though). I should be back in Chicago by next tuesday.

Genius, it may be working out for you. I've been able to post a lot the last two days and look where it got me. Stumbling around, ready to croak with a carnivorous hood over my head.

Guys,

visiting my parents July 8-13th. Definitely no internet available there. Feel free to play Effan to keep things moving in my absence.

Hey, we had two harmless rooms in a row before that. I was getting a little cocky. Besides it worked out great. By using Effan to absorb the initial attacks, the heavy hitters were able to rock. We're talking some stragedy here.

well i am loveing this, i am glad i have not had my hand slaped for typeing to much. I did love how yes the two heavys love swinging, but it seem at each other as much as everything that moves... which goes to say that is still in limbo...

But other then our gnome sor/fighter/door kickers Effan and Faldor wanting to be in the middle of it. Both of them. Our dirt fearing rogue.Hors ( i really love Hor by the way... kind of reminds me a Pikel from R.A. Salvatore novels)who i would believe to be very close to forest gump mixed with a little bit of ozzy and martha stewirt. Our scout, who could be the child offspring of leatherface and hannable lecktor, who jumps from this to that and i never know what he is going to do... unless there is something to hit.

When i look at all that i am playing Jaden rather plan.... oh well
i love this game

DooDad!

Seriously though, thanks for the compliment. Pikel is one of those memorable characters that would never have survived in his own book. That says a lot. I do not think of Jaden as plain, indeed I figure him as the head of the group: Batman to our Justice League, Mal to our Serenity, Garven to our our Rogue Squadron.

just stay away form men in big black masks.

I am restarting a Savage Tide campaign with some of my table top folks who are no longer tabley-topity. I have room for a couple of others if someone is interested. We will start on the Isle of Dread and if you do not know what that means all the better. *grin*

Standard races (+ bullywugs, phanatons, aventi, lizardfolk)
Standard classes (+warmage, swashbuckler, favored soul, & scout).

More details for those lucky couple as I only have a little room. If you are interested in some dino-piratey-savageness please say so now. After the weekend, I will post to the boards at large, but as I am having fun with this group, I thought to give y'all first crack.

I've been enjoying Jaden. I actually figured him more of Allan Quatermain from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. (great comic)

Thanks for the invite, Curaigh. A couple of weeks ago I was wanting to add another PbP to my schedule and almost wrangled my way into Valegrim's campaign, but realized at the last minute that what I really needed to do was put more time into DMing my CoCT. I will definitely be lurking on your thread though. Best of luck with the game.

Hey, Fakey, I saw that combat wands popped up in Heathy's thread. Spreading the goodness?

Fakey, Terry had the right of it. I was inquiring about a door. The scene you set on the table was of an interrupted dinner. No one came out the locked door or Jaden would have seen him. Therefore, whoever was eating in the room must have had another means of egress. Hence my question about a door.

Remember I wasn't happy about the door jammed by the chair in the room with the dead dwarf? Same sort of deal. Classic locked-door murder scenario. I was so relieved when it turned out the dwarf was a suicide.

Point is I'll try to read your posts carefully and deduce what I can. Often I'll miss big, obvious or important things. Sometimes I'll get lucky and figure out there must be another door even if you haven't described it yet. Asking about the floor and ceiling was partly to cover the possibility of trap doors, and an allusion to head eating ceiling droppers.

I was cornfused is all, I didn't realize that you were deducing. I thought you were commenting on a door that I hadn't described, not asking about a door that should be in the room per the setup. My bad. Also I gave you(and Faldor and Jaden) a search roll to find the trap but you Natural oned which sucked for the DC10 search.

I think the fear is for ironwork in general. If you obstruct us with a wrought iron fence, I imagine we'll just give up and go home.
