Elite Monsters?
What's next? Unique Boss Monsters that get extra powers, complete with a chart where you can roll its name?
"Knee-Biter The Flatulent"
A Unique monster has a randomly rolled up name - you always roll X times on the table, and use the parts you roll up in that order, even if the name doesn't make sense - and gets its name displayed in a different text colour.
Now where do I know that from? My mouse is screaming in recalled agony.
You forgot the unique treasure drops m'man.
Me, I'm getting flashbacks to another video game with 3 bimbos and monsters randomly being beefier due to an 'Oversoul' condition.
What, we can't just advance them a few HD or class levels anymore? Now they're 'elite'? Does this mean we've got 'special forces' and 'commando' levels too?
Sorry, I'll leave now before I create a major tsunami of sarcasm.
(Gotta remember that one. 'Tsunami of sarcasm'.)

What I wonder is whether a 'solo' encounter becomes an 'elite encounter' at some point. You know, like, say, when the Players go up a couple levels.
If the monster is a solo for 5th level parties, is it an elite for 7th level parties (like the rule in 3.x that double the number of monsters adds +2 to the EL)?
Or are they just going to say 'well, once the PCs are past that level, they won't see that monster anymore. Once they unlock the higher level areas, they won't need to go back'. Or something.
Personally, 4th edition isn't working for me. Even if it were awesome I'd be skeptical. I know we (officially) have six months left, but I don't think the game will deliver much to anyone. I don't think it will be faster or easier. I don't think it will be more fun. I don't think it will be a perfect system without new problems.
But then, I don't have to experience any of it first hand, so I guess that doesn't matter.

It was also interesting that the mob fast-healed after combat broke off and it reset.
Oh, wait - did I say mob? I meant monster, of course. Can't wait to see the drop tables, though - wanna know where to farm for blues...
The drop table is in the DMG. Blues would be those magi items whose level >= bulettes level. Greens, of course, are <= bulettes level.
Just make sure you have the skinning profession so you can get the Medium Hide.
