Where are we running to? And for how long? Eugen and Gyorgy will come to their senses in about twelve seconds...

As long as our primary warrior and primary heavy-hitter spellcaster are fleeing the battle, Jessa is running with them...both to protect them, seek protection from them, and otherwise hope the magic affecting them can be broken or otherwise expire in time to turn back against whatever's giving chase.

DM Wicht wrote:
The long limbed monstrosity that rose just moments earlier from the bubbling pool roars and gives chase.

Assuming we've come back around to the top of the initiative order...and that Eugen keeps running...then Jessa's action will be:

"Hurry!" Jessa encourages Magazin to keep up. Her heart is lifted to see Kenzo with him. At least the monk managed to get away from the horrible beast from the well. She hears the roar of the creature behind them and hesitates. Turning, she draws another arrow, hoping to slow it down.

Jessa's ranged attack with longbow... (1d20+3 = 21 to hit, 1d8 = 2 damage)

As soon as she fires, Jessa resumes running, knowing full well the folly of trying to stay behind and face such a creature on her own.

Holy crap! When did Jessa get all accurate with her longbow skills? Sucky damage, but at least she's hurting him...I hope. :)

Don't tell it to Gyorgy like that, you'll freak him out.

The creature stops a moment as the third arrow slices across him. The few precious seconds allows Jessa and the others to outdistance him. Soon they are back in the room with the red marble staute and Gyorgy and Eugen are suddenly much calmer.

Eugen and Gyorgy both realize they dropped the weapons they had been holding somewhere along the way, likely in the room where they first started running.

Thopugh Jessa slowed the pursuit, a roar from the hallway to the south would seem to indicate the creature spawned from the strange bubbling pool will soon be among them.

"Arm yourselves!" Jessa shouts as she takes up a position behind the red marble statue. Then she spots the ivory and gold ranseur in the statue's hands. "Eugen! Use this!" she urges, tugging the ranseur free and tossing it to the warrior, "We've got to make a stand somewhere. That thing will catch up to us eventually...and if it heals like the others...it's better if we cut it down now while it still has a few of my arrows in it."

She looks over at Gyorgy. "You ready? Hit it with your best spells," she advises, and then Jessa intones words to create her own magic, "Vraieja grevas..."

Casting true strike in preparation of the monster's reappearance.

:D Now how did you know the Ranseur would come loose.

With a little tugging, the ranseur does come free from the statue's grasp.

The monster comes around the corner and into view. It roars once more in anger and then charges forward...

You can't help but notice that some of its wounds are already healed.

Male Human Fighter 1

"uh," i say, catching my breath and dreadfully embarrassed at my behaviour, "thanks. i don't know what came over me."

I examine the ranseur and turn to face the enemy, readying to charge when it comes into view.

Well...um...you did say it was added to the statue rather than a part of it during the initial description. I went back to check. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;-)

Eugen Enescu wrote:

It's in view.

Should be 2d4 plus 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus since it's a two-handed weapon. Also, it's got a reach of 10 feet. So factor that into your tactics if the beast tries to close with you.

i think this is right 2d4 + 5 (strength is 16, so bonus is 3x1.5, i assume i round up to 5?)

Kenzo moves to attack the creature, but makes sure not to block Eugen's strikes. He places himself so that if the creature progresses any further in to the room, it'll be between to of them.

1d20=3+2=5, 1d8=5+1=6

Male Half-Elf (Shoanti) Cleric 2 (Favored:Cleric)

I move to center myself amongst my friends and cast Bless on the group.

As the creature appears and Eugen and Kenzo rush forward to deal with it, the thing focuses its attentions on Kenzo, who is closest. Kenzo's attack and Gyorgy's blast seem to have greatly injured it and though it is ferocious in it's onslaught, the monk manages to avoid both claws and teeth.

Attacking Kenzo: (1d20+2=10, 1d20+2=14, 1d20=2)

Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana

Where are we on the initiative order exactly? With the running and reappearance of the monster, I'm unclear if we've moved back into rounds again...and if so, who's up next?

I wasn't going to worry about order with just the one monster. Feel free to act.

Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana

Drawing upon the arcane energy summoned by her divination, Jessa closes her eyes and nocks another arrow. She turns and fires, seemingly a blind shot, but it unerringly flies true.

Jessa's ranged longbow attack with true strike... (1d20+3+20 = 33 to hit, 1d8 = 8 damage)

Male Human Fighter 1

with the thing between kenzo and myself i back slightly to give myself the necessary room and attack again. "this has been a long day!" i yell to focus my energy, but the unfamiliarity of the weapon and the fatigue seem to be getting to me.

flanking attack (1d20 +6 +2=12)

Jessa's arrow zips past Eugen's ear, right over Kenzo's shoulder and into the throat of the monstrosity. Perhaps it was the tickle of the fletching on Eugen's ear that causes his strike to miss the mark.

Magazin, Kenzo, Gyorgy?

Male Half-Elf (Shoanti) Cleric 2 (Favored:Cleric)

I move up behind Eugen and ask Desna to give him luck.

Bit of Luck (Su):

Spoiler:
As a standard action, you can touch
a creature, giving it a bit of luck. For the next 3
rounds, any time the target rolls a d20, he can roll
twice and take the better result. The target must
decide to use this ability before rolling the dice.
This effect fades after 3 rounds or when the reroll
is used. Once a target has been affected by bit of luck,
he can gain no further benefit from it for 1 day.

Male Human Ki Mystic Monk 4

Kenzo tries to press the advantage, but is unable to land a strike.

1d20=10+2+2=14, 1d8=8+1=9

Apparently, Kenzo didn't miss me.

Kenzo, the creature's AC is 13. What is your second +2 from?

"Die, Demonblood!"

heavenly fire (1d20 5=19, 1d6 1=6)

Gyorgy's blast drops the creature to the ground, where it thrashes, in pain and oblivious to the world.

DM Wicht wrote:

Jessa follows up Gyorgy's fiery blast with the numbing coldness of an icy ray to try and still the creature's death throes. "Make certain it doesn't rise again!" she shouts to the others.

Jessa casts ray of frost after closing to within a five feet of the dying beast. Is this a coup de grace situation? If so, automatic hit, automatic critical?

Ray of frost damage and critical hit... (1d3, 1d3= 2 damage, 3 damage) ... for a total of 5 damage.

The ray of frost stills the creature.

Drawing near, it is obvious that the creature's wounds are beginning to slowly close.

Male Human Fighter 1

I slice it to pieces as best i can.

Eugen, once more the butcher, insures that the bizarre creature remains dead.

Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana

"What now?" Jessa asks, catching her breath. She looks around at everyone. "It's obvious now where these creatures are coming from..." she wonders aloud, "If we're going to protect Sandpoint, we'll have to destroy that pool. But it still has that odd, twisted little creature. A quasit, I presume?" She looks askance at Magazin.

"Well, what options do we have? Can we fend it off long enough for me to destroy the pool and maybe send this little demon back to wherever it came from?"

An angry screech echoes from the passage to the south. It is hard to tell the distance involved but one gets the feeling that the little winged thing is coming nearer.

The second +2 was from flanking with Eugen.

"How do we fight something invisible? And how do you plan on destroying that pool?" Kenzo quickly asks,

Eugen: "Hah, that was my other plan Gyorgy, too bad we didn't bring a cook."

"Flour? A cook?" Jessa hesitates for a moment and then her eyes widen. "I have a plan!" she announces, "A bit of magic I know...both for cooking and cleaning...or, in this case, soiling..." She gestures at the doorway. "Whatever you do, try and pin it down to a small area. I can only affect a small space, but I may be able to mark it and make it easier for everyone to see."

OOC: Jessa's plan actually involves the prestidigitation cantrip. It can only affect a 1-foot cube. It can be used for a variety of purposes. Jessa often uses it to change her appearance or clean herself up after a dirty climb through crumbling ruins. But, in this case, she just wants to use prestidigitation for the reverse effect so she can soil the quasit. Whether that's summoning flour, dust, mud, or a particular bright red dye...her intention is to spray the creature well enough that everyone can follow it. I'll leave the rest to DM interpretation as to how well the plan might work...but it's the best I can come up with...and, if it doesn't work...I think it's probably best if we run.

The seconds continue to pass.

Despite his surprise, Gyorgy, mainly because of his arcane protection, manages to pull his leg back just in time.

A cry echoes up the hallway..."Die!"

"Aargh!"

I nearly jump out of my skin 5ft step away from spider and instinctively blast it with divine fire.
spiders are neutral, yes? so it will be immune to divine fire, i think.

For initiative for this encounter, we'll simply alternate party and monsters as the monsters easily got the drop on the party. It is the party's turn. And this particular spider, being magically summoned from the depths of the abyss, is not neutral - i.e. Gyorgy can roll to hit it with the divine fire.
